0 REFLECTION
My greatest grateful behold to God because the task that has been given by
my beloved lecterur, Mrs. Azizah binti Abdul Kadir, I could finished it on time. Like the
saying goes unctually is the courtesy of the king!. I hold this saying tigthly and
instill in dee" of my heart. I choose from my #ournal $ith the to"ic A %urvey of
&isci"linary roblem 'aced in Malaysian %chools. Any$ay, to be honest, $hen I
received the task, I $as a little bit confused on $hat #ournal that suitable and easy for
me to $ork on it. At first, I chose %calffolding %tudents Learning in (M()*+
Introduction to Learners and Learning ,heory - .n Looking /ack0s to"ic. 1o$ever,
after some times, I found that, it $as hard for me to get the materials and all the
sources that I can use as my references. ,hen, I decided to change my #ournal and
finally I agreed to "ick the #ournal A %urvey of &isci"linary roblem 'aced in
Malaysian %chools . ,hank God, the #ournal much easier than the first #ournal that
I0ve chose.
In another $ord, I choose that #ournal because I $ant to kno$ about the
disci"linary "roblem faced in Malaysian schools es"ecially for me as a teacher. /eing
school children in the age grou" of 23)2 years, it is easy to fall "rey to social ills and
disci"line "roblem. ,here are many kinds of social ills, namely smoking, drinking,
vandalism, bullying, gangsterism and so on. According this #ournal, many "arents
have claimed that the failure and ignorance of school administration and teachers in
handling the issue has resulted in the rise of indici"lines schools. I couldn0t agree
more $ith that "arents claimed because I think not as a teacher0s res"onsibility only
to handle this "roblem, but disci"line begins at home. ,he "arents "oint their fingers
at the teachers $hile the teachers "oint their fingers back at the "arents.
,his #ournal also discuss about methodology $hich the discussions $ere
conducted in "lanning on ho$ to conduct the survey including the target of our case
study, $hat sort of 4uestions $e need to ask in the intervie$ and the survey $ith the
students and disci"linary teacher. I think as a teacher, $e must do something about
this immediately. In this #ournal also, there are many theories that sum u" the idea of
school indisci"line include the definition and identifying ty"es of school indisci"line,
the causes, effects and also the $ays to handle the "roblem. I think as a teacher or
administration school, $e must kee" the students occu"ied $ith e5tra3curricular
3
activities. 'un activities should be organised to attract them. .nce they are involved
in school activities, they $ould not get involved in disci"line "roblem.
/eside that, according to /ear 67++89, the main causes of this "roblem include
ineffective "arenting skills, mass media influence, community social "roblems and so
on. I agreed $ith that /ear $hich in today0s society, it has become necessary for both
"arents to $ork, the reason being that they $ant to "rovide the best for their children.
:hat "arents fail to understand is that the best for their children is their
com"anionshi" and their love. arents also should not com"are student0s talent and
academic abilities $ith others. ,oo much "ressure can drive students to$ards
undesirable behaviour. %o, "arents and teachers must be sensitive to the needs of
the students.
,hen, media influence is yet another im"ortant factor to consider. ,he students
need to be guided. ,he teachers in school can hel" to educate them. eer grou"
"ressure also is a strong influence on today0s student. ,hey are very brand3
conscious and try to emulate their friends. I think to handle this "roblem, the school
should also organise activities such as talentime, drama com"etition and singing
com"etition. %uch activities serve as the "latform for students to e5"ress their
talents. I think that some students are really talented.
;e5t, I also agreed $ith this #ournal $hich canning has not really hel"ed the
disci"line "roblem. I think as a teacher, $e must advise and motivate them $hich this
#ournal also sho$ed that high "ercentage for solve the disci"line "robles is
counselling. ,he school and teachers should councel them. <aning is really not
necessary and students need hel", not a beating. ,here are so many teachers $ho
are kind and understanding and $ith some effort, they should be able to hel"
students. ,eachers are in the best "osition to hel" student and solve this "roblem.
In addition, the "arents, teachers, local community and so on must be
sensitive to hel" curb disci"linary "roblems in schools. As a conclusion, all I can say
that, com"leting this assignment did taught me loads of things and this is a very good
task to start $ith as a college student. ,hat0s $hy I think the to"ic really give
thousand meaning to myself.
