ElectraX is com'rised o+ +our inde'endent la%ers or "A6H" in 6one; 'arlance. Each
la%er is a +ull s%nthesi>er in it=s own right B three oscillators with 3arious sound
generation methodsC two multi@mode +ilters and an e++ect 'rocessor. Each " also has a
wealth o+ real@time modi+iers adding li+e and mo3ement to the soundD +our en3elo'e
generatorsC three low +re&uenc% oscillatorsC a ste' oscillator and a +ull% 'rogrammable
ar'eggiator. ( ten@slot modulation matri1 'er la%er manages the modi+ier assignments

6his handbook has been designed to 'ro3ide a H&uick startI guide to start making great
sounds straight awa% with ElectraXC +ollowed b% a more detailed e1'lanation o+ ElectraXC
the user inter+ace and its +unctions +or 'ower users and those who like to go be%ond the
'resets.
What this handbook doesn=t do is e1'lain the +undamentals o+ s%nthesis B there are
'lent% o+ good in+ormation a3ailable elsewhere. ( good search on the internet will
'ro3ide all the in+ormation %ou e3er need +or learning the basics.

Installation procedure
6ogether with the download link +rom "hare@it %ou ha3e recei3ed a ke%+ile called
JElectraX.t;kJ to unlock the +ull 3ersionC %ou will +ind as an email attachment. 6his ke%+ile
contains %our 'ersonal serial number with %our name and is used to unlock the +ull
3ersion.
Please noteD $nstallation on Windows# K :ista need to be done +rom an administratorJs
account or b% using JRun as AdministratorJ +or both the ElectraX installer and host 'rogram.

Automatic Installation (recommended)

6he rotar% knob control increments a 'arameter 3alue linearl% +rom a minimum threshold

6o increase a knob=s setting 3alueC turn it clockwiseD click@and@hold the knob with %our
mouse and then mo3e it u' and4or to the right. 6o decreaseC mo3e down and4or to the
le+tC or anti@clockwise.
$+ %ou 'ress the (%ift ke% on %our ke%board and then click@and@hold the le+t mouse
button on a knobC %ou will ha3e +ine control.
6here are two t%'e o+ 3alue ranges +or the rotar% knobsC de'ending on the 'arameter
the knob is controlling. 6here is the uni&olar knob B that goes +rom >ero to a 'ositi3e
3alue or the bi&olar knob B that goes +rom a minus 3alue to through >ero and then to a
'ositi3e amount. -i'olar 3alues are use+ul +or setting modulation amounts Ewhich can be

ElectraX and are itching to create %our own? Luckil%C ElectraX is 3er% eas% to understand
and within a 3er% short s'ace o+ time %ou=ll ha3e a good gras' o+ how ElectraX works.
6o gi3e %ou a 'ush in the right directionC we=3e included a welcome tutorial. 6his &uick@
start tutorial is b% no means com'rehensi3e as it is sim'l% a walk through o+ the creation
o+ %our 3er% +irst ElectraX 'atch +rom scratchC and to show %ou the s%nth=s basic
+unctionalit% along the wa% so %ou can start +amiliari>ing %oursel+ with it.
For our +irst 'atch we=ll make a sim'le bass sound.
Let=s begin b% loading an em't% 'atch E$$6 'atchF
1. 8n to' o+ ElectraXJs "ettings 'anelC click on I"I$ to select .eset La%er. .eset
la%er will reset all controls on the acti3e la%er to their de+ault settings.
ow that we ha3e all controls set to their de+ault stateC we can start building our
bass 'atch. We will use a single oscillator +or this bassC oscillator 1 is currentl%
the onl% acti3e 8scillator and itJs set to the 6ri"aw t%'e.
;. 6urn the 'ulse@width controlC the knob labelled PWC clockwise to a 3alue o+ 122C
this will change the oscillator sha'e +rom a triangular to a saw. We now ha3e our
basic sound selectedC but how the sound starts is all wrong. 6his is because the
'art o+ the s%nth that determines how the oscillatorJs 3olume beha3esN the
3olume en3elo'eC needs to be adOusted to the 'ro'er settings.

3. <o into the en3elo'e sectionC make sure the 3olume en3elo'e E:8LF is selected
and set it u' as 'ictured belowD
With our 3olume en3elo'e set u'C we will add a +ilter ne1t.
4. <o to ElectraXJs analog +ilter section and inside +ilter1 click on the word Jb%'assJC
a list with a3ailable +ilter t%'es will now o'enC select the LP 1*d- +ilter +rom this
list.
9. 0lose the +ilter a bit more b% turning the 0768FF knob counter@clockwise till the
3alue in the 3alue dis'la% Eto' le+t o+ ElectraXJs inter+aceF reads 139 H>.
6he same wa% our oscillator=s 3olume has an en3elo'e +or 'recise controlC the +ilter
section also makes use o+ an en3elo'eC called the +ilter en3elo'e EF$L6F.
6. -e+ore we set u' this en3elo'eC we need to adOust how much o+ the +ilter
en3elo'e will be a''lied to our +ilterC weJll do this b% turning the knob right below
cuto++1 and labelled E: to a 3alue o+ 39.

Let start b% assigning the modulation wheel to the +ilterC that wa% we can o'en
and close our 1*d- +ilter b% sim'l% using the modulation wheel on our controller.
*. ElectraX uses a modulation matri1 +or thisC so letJs take a look at the )od )atri1
and make the necessar% adOustments to include )od Wheel control.
(ssignments in the )od )atri1 are done +rom the to' to the bottomD
,. $nside the )od )atri1C click on the to' 8++ Eto' le+t o+ the matri1F and select
)odwheel as %our "ourceC then click on the 8++ below what now sa%s
J)odwheelJ and choose Jcuto++1J as the destination. 6he onl% thing now le+t is
setting u' how much our "ource E)odwheelF should modulate our 5estination
E0uto++1FC this is done b% clicking on the 3alue below cuto++1 and mo3ing the
mouse u' or downwardsC set this 3alue to 32. $+ %ou 'la% some notes while using
the modulation wheel on %our controller %ou should hear Filter 1 o'ening and
closing.
12. 6he +inal ste' is to sa3e %our +reshl% minted sound. 0lick on the F$LE button in
the -rowser section and then click J"a3e 'atchJ in the menu. ( +ile browser

Overview
6he ElectraX user inter+ace is designed to make 'atch designing and editing intuiti3e
and +un. (ll the sound editing 'arameters +or a single la%er are ke't on a single 'age so
that %ou can see the signal +low without getting lost in multi'le tabs and 'ages. Each o+
the +our la%ers are identical in +unction and has it=s own 'age which can be selected b%
the M"A6 select= buttons abo3e the oscillator section.
6he ElectraX=s 7$ E7ser $nter+aceF is larger than most so+tware s%nthesi>ers but once
%our 'atch is built %ou can switch o++ the E5$68. 3iew Eclick the E5$68. button in the
(ound sectionF lea3ing Oust the .ack <7$ which sa3es considerable screen real@estate.

'arameter in ElectraX=s inter+aceC the 'arameter name and 3alue will be dis'la%ed here.

delete the 'atch.

Quick import vocoder = ElectraX can be set u' to act as a 3ocoder which
sounds great with 'ercussi3e or 3ocal material. )anuall% setting it u' in ElectraX
can take a bit o+ time so using the >uic7 im&ort 3ocoder can sa3e a lot o+ time
when ins'iration strikes. When %ou click on >uic7 im&ort 3ocoder the +ollowing
ha''ensD
6he :A($ER E++E6$ is set to <ocoder.
8n the second la%erC the +irst oscillator is set to the Ultra/a3e t%'e with the
(i4 &ulses setting. 6he out'ut o+ this oscillator is sent to the +irst +ilter and

What is a vocoder?

taken +rom the :odulation Amount 'arameter. 6his o'tion is use+ul i+ %ou need a
'aramter offset to an% modulation destination.

-andom B 6his o'tion selects a new random 3alue when a ke% is 'ressed on
%our ke%board controller. ote that the 3alue will be static until %ou 'la% a new
note when a new random 3alue will be created.
Flip.lop @ 6his o'tion J+li'sJ between two 3alues. 6he 3alue is determined b% the
:odulation Amount' e'' a :odulation Amount o+ 12 would J+li'J between G12
and @12. Howe3erC the 'arameter that is going to be modulated acts as a 3alue
o++set.
Noise B 6his o'tion generates white noise. 6his is a continuousl% 3ar%ing
random 3alue.
