From the Pastors Desk
Today in Rome, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, will
beatfy one of his predecessors, Pope Paul VI, who
served as Supreme Pontf from June 1963 untl his
death in August 1978.

At the tme of Pauls electon, the Second Vatcan
Council had only been in session for some nine
months, yet the newly elected Pontf contnued with
his predecessors vision for aggiornamento (bringing
up to date) of the Church. It was during the pontfcate
of the soon-to-be Blessed Pope Paul VI that many of
the great documents that have infuenced the life of
the Church over the last ffy years were debated,
decided and promulgated.

Giovanni Montni, the future Paul VI, was born on the
26th September 1897 in Brescia, Italy and was
ordained as priest in 1920. During his life he witnessed
two world wars, the rise and fall of fascism in Europe,
the advent of communism, and much of the Cold War.
He saw numerous world leaders come and go, all the
while faithfully serving God in the Church. His
infuence in the life of the Church during and following
his pontfcate is manifold and contnues to be felt.

Today we join with the people of the Diocese of
Rome, and the wider Universal Church, in giving
thanks to God for the life of Blessed Pope Paul VI, for
his example of faithful Christan living, and for his
legacy in the life of the Church.

Rebuilding the Church in Gaza
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of
Jerusalem is coordinatng a response from the Church
to assist the Catholic communites in Gaza to rebuild
afer the recent tragic events. The Order is the
primary source of funds to support the Latn
Patriarchate of Jerusalem (the local diocese), and the
task of assistng the reconstructon in Gaza is
immense. It is for that reason the Order, with the
support and encouragement of Bishop Bill, is
extending this appeal to local Catholic communites.
This appeal provides an opportunity to support the
people of the Holy Land in this tme of need.

If you would like to make a contributon to this appeal,

Volunteer Garden Co-ordinator
The Forster Community Garden was established in
2007 with 'seed' funding from the State Government
as a community capacity building initatve.

Since then the Forster Neighbourhood Centre (Forster
NC) has managed to develop and grow their own
garden as well as support the establishment of other
community gardens, produce a manual for preschools
to establish gardens (see: www.fnc.org.au) and
educated over 500 residents in how to grow their own
organic food.

The garden hortculturalist is on site Tuesday
mornings to direct garden volunteers and teach
people how to establish their own gardens and grow
food organically.

The Forster NC desperately needs a volunteer Garden
Co-ordinator to work the hortculturalist and Forster
NC Manager to advance the prospects of the garden,
identfy and garnish funds and help with organising
garden events. It is envisaged that the co-ordinator
would work approximately 7 hours per week
- it depends! Contact Trish 02 6555 4351 at the
Forster NC if you're interested.
Volunteer Driving Instructor
Forster Neighbourhood Centre (Forster NC) is pilotng
a driver training program to support young people
gain their 120 hours driving experience.

The FNC vehicle would be used and students would
donate $15 towards petrol for each lesson.

The program is designed to support young people
who have no family nor friend who could help them
and/or who are disengaged from family. Referrals
from community workers will have to support this
strict criteria.

If you're interested in donatng your tme towards this
pilot project (which will be reviewed December 2014)
please contact Trish Wallace at Forster NC on 6555
4351. A working with Children check would be
required for this volunteer positon.

Childrens Liturgy of the Word
The Family Ministry commitee of the Catholic Parish
of Forster Tuncurry are introducing a monthly
Childrens Liturgy of the Word. The Childrens liturgy
will run during the usual 9am Mass service on the
1st Sunday of the month. Children 4-12yrs invited to
come along and learn about God and have some fun!

The frst Children's Liturgy of the Word will be on
the 2nd November 2014. Bring along your children or
Grandchildren to the 9am Mass service at the
Forster Church so they can be a part of this great new
program. Hope to see you there.
Assistance Required in the Parish
Love begins in the family. Only families that pray
together, stay together. Only when they learn to live
together can they learn love for one another, and
hence share this love with their neighbours also.
These were some of the guiding principles of Mother
Teresa. She was convinced that the welfare of society
was based on the sanctty of marriage and on
harmony with the family. The family is the frst and
most natural environment within which love can be
given and received. Where else, but the domestc
school of love, does an awareness of our own identty
and authentc human relatonships come from? Only
the security and mutual respect found within the
family circle can fve us the confdence that we are
unconditonally accepted, treasured and loved. Thanks
to this love we are able to recognise that we are
crated in the image and likeness of God.
