Im going to talk to you today about one of my hobbies, bollywood
dance. Ive have been doing bollywood dance for about 2 years in a Civic Center near my house. This activity is healthy, fun, a little different, energetic, as well as an excellent aerobic exercise. For me, its ideal to relax and forget your problems. People of all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness levels can do it. In the strict sense the term Bollywood refers to the Hindi culture, art and film industry from Bombay (which is now Mumbai) but now its generally extended to mean the entire South Asian film culture. This term appeared in the 1970s. The name came from a combination of Bombay and Hollywood. The Bollywood films have in common particular characteristics such as song, dance, melodrama and emphasis on stars and spectacle. Films incorporated several aspects of musicals. During a movie, the characters would spontaneously burst into song. These sections of the films incorporate many theatrical elements, including costumes, lighting, special scenery or props, singing, and of course, dancing. In relation to the language the films are in hindi but it is common to see movies that feature dialogue with English words, phrases or whole sentences. As a curiosity, there is a film shot in Spain. Its called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (You Dont Get to Live Life Twice). The principal shouting took place in Barcelona, Pamplona, Buol and Andalusia. The song Seorita was a great success the year of the film premiere in India. In the movie we can see the running of the bulls and the tomatina. The tomatina is compared with the Indian spring festival, the Holi Mela where people throw multicoloured powders. The costumes and clothing are colourful and flashy. Sometimes it is danced barefood, in other words, without shoes. Bollywood dance is the commercial name form modern Indian dancing and its crucial to Bollywood films. Its an eclectic mix of classical Indian dances and a wide range of dance styles like jazz, hip hop or salsa. It can be danced individually, in pairs and in groups. Bollywood its very expressive. It should be remembered professional dancers moves all parts of his body even the neck with the side-to side or the forward-and-back slide neck movement or eyes movements and facial expression are essential components too. In addition its sensual and cheerful with a catchy rhythm. When I go to my bollywood class I cant get the song out of my head that day. To know more about a dance I think its important see some steps or choreographies. Because of that, Im going to show us two basic bollywood moves. The first, opening mudras. Mudras are a separate set of hand gestures used across a number of classical Indian dance forms. There are a lot of them even though the most basic mudras in bollywood are two khatakamukha and alapadma. When the tip of the thumb, forefinger and middle finger are in contact with each other and the ring finger and the little finger are stretched, its khatakamukha. My teacher calls it bunny. When the fingers stand sidewise along the palm, its Alapadma. My teacher calls it flower. Keeping the flower hand position with the right hand in front of the chest with the straight elbows and bunny hand position with the left hand fully extended out to the left, after that upside down. We can do the same with the hands up and down. And the second, the Punjab is a step inside the bhangra, one of the traditional dance which includes bollywood. Hold our arms up to make a W and move our shoulders up and down with the extended palm. Step across our body with our right heel, then our left. And finally, some bollywood videos. Tell me if you want see the full video. Dhoom again In modern Bollywood films, the musical numbers are oftentimes based on the hip-hop style of dance as well as the variations on hip-hop dance found in the music videos that are played on MTV. Dhoom again its a perfect example. Bodyguard This video have some touches of humour. Gun Gun Guna This video is the most classic of the three videos for costumes, face expressions, etc. Bollywood dance always can surprise you; the last thing that really attracts my attention was Oppa Gangnam Style Hindi Version. Thats at all. Thank you very much and I hope I didnt bored you too much.
