Guidelines for the examiner

Entry test: speaking


Ask the candidate some questions about themselves, their work/studies, family, hobbies, etc. This is a
test of the candidates ability to give personal information. Do not prompt them with information. Ask
followup questions to develop the conversation as appropriate.

Exit test: speaking
%tudents spend five minutes preparing the short presentation &about '( minutes long, including
e)aminers questions*. This is a test of the candidates presentation technique. After the candidate has
given his/her short presentation you may ask questions, as appropriate.

"hat si,e is the company/college#
"hat training opportunities are there#
+ow long will the afternoons programme last#
Ask about the variety of $obs and courses.
Ask what e)perience or qualifications are needed relating to the students course/career.

Note: !t is recommended that the speaking tests be recorded for analysis afterwards. 2ral performance
should always be assessed by at least two teachers. !n the event of disagreement, award a score
midway between the two &if two assessors* or take an average &if three or more assessors*.
The oral performance of candidates with a score of 3 or more can be described as follows4
