ACOUSTIC ROOF SYSTEM

As a result of laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss of BlueScope Lysaght Acoustic Roof System,
Spring Singapore (Acoustic Test Laboratory) had rated the roof system tested on October 10, 2002 as having a sound
transmission class 51 (STC 51). The test was conducted in accordance with ASTM E90 97.

Fastening Method of LYSAGHT

LOCKED SEAM
LYSAGHT LOCKED SEAM
panel is designed to be suitable for
fastening onto a solid substrate, a
corrugated profile, structural
decking or plywood. Concealed
clips are integrated into the
standing seam rib.
The anchorage and the method
of fastening are crucial factors in
the fixing of the roof skin to the
substructures. All forces arising from
the wind pressure must be safely
directed from the roof skin via all
other building components into the
anchorage. The suction forces
applicable to a roof are influenced
by the roof shape as well as height
and position of the building. Peak
suction will occur at the exposed
roof edge and overhanging area.

:: 4 ::

The design calculation and wind

load analysis of the fixing
methodology has been specially
designed by BlueScope Lysaght
Australia Research & Development
department and verified by the
National University of Singapore,
Department of Civil Engineering.

Fastening Method for High Wind &

Cyclonic load
LYSAGHT LOCKED SEAM can
be designed and configured to
withstand High Wind Pressure and
Cyclonic load. The test has been
carried out in accordance with:
Structural Adequacy Test under
Static Pressure to ASTM E330 and
Structural Adequacy Test under BD
PNAP 106 Cyclic
Tests and simulation were conducted
in a specially designed prefabricated
steel chamber that is HOKLAS
(Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation
Scheme) Accredited.
Reg. No. HOKLAS 110.

Material Fact Sheet

2. COPPER

General Description

Patinated Copper: TECU - Patina

The base material is oxygen-free,
phosphorous deoxidized high quality
TECU - Copper sheet, produced
in accordance with KMEs own strict
quality control standards, which
surpass the stipulations of EN1172.
The purity of the copper is in excess
of 99.90%, which means that the
renowned durability and workability
of copper are also inherent in TECU
- Patina copper sheets.

Clean COLORBOND prepainted

steel has been developed by
BlueScope Steel to provide a high
durability, good looking and cost
effective roofing and walling material
for general exterior use.
Resistance To Dirt Staining
The change in appearance of normal
coil-coated products due to
weathering is expected to be minimal
within one year of installation. Yet, the
overall apppearance change can be
large in some environments, not as a
result of changes in the paint system
itself but as a result of severe dirt
pick-up which causes darkening of its
surface. This effect is more pronounced
on light colours than on dark colours.
Some atmospheric dirt can actually
become engrained into the surface of
the paint, causing dirt staining which is
difficult to remove.
Clean COLORBOND steel is
resistant to dirt staining.

In a specially developed mechanicalchemical-thermal process the copper

sheets are pre-patinated on one side.
During this process, a green oxide
layer is formed on the copper sheet,
just as it would under natural
weathering over a relatively long
period of time. TECU Patina thus
possesses essentially the same
characteristics as regards to colour,
tint and durability as the natural
patina.

The Outstanding features of

TECU - Patina are:
Extremely high corrosion resistance
and durability are the intrinsic
properties of copper
Good malleability and easy
workability, especially where
complex installation details are
required
Good harmonious colour
combinations with other natural
building materials like e.g. tiles,
marbles, bricks, etc.
Absolute freedom from underside
corrosion.
Its aesthetic and its longevity

3. ZINC TITANIUM
Zinc titanium is a metal consisting
of Pure Zinc (99.99%) alloyed with
a small quantity of titanium and
copper. It corresponds to the Z1
classification that is the highest
quality of Zinc titanium in the
European Standard EN1179
Zinc Titanium is produced to conform
to European Norms EN 988 and
EN1179. EN1179: regulates the
classification of the alloy elements.
EN988: controls the finishes and
tolerances of the rolled products.
The metallic zinc surfaces react with
the main constituents of the
atmosphere like oxygen, carbon
dioxide and hydrogen to build a
superficial patina. This layer is
compact, adherent and insoluble in
rainwater and will hinder any further
exchange between oxygen and zinc
thereby maintaining a very low
corrosion rate of rolled zinc.
The buildup of natural zinc patina
takes time and environmental
conditions.
VM Zinc has developed a chemical
process by which the external surface
of the natural zinc can be modified
in chemical bath: the pre-weathering process is carried out on natural
zinc as per NFA55-201, NFA55-211,
DIN17770 or BS6561 and is therefore
neither a paint or a coating resulting
from any colour coating, spraying or
brush painting process.
The factory controlled pre-weathered
surface is similar to the patina formed
by natural zinc after a few years of
ex-posure to the atmosphere.
The name given to this pre-weathered
zinc is called: Quartz Zinc.

:: 6 ::

Quartz Zinc is pre-weathered zinc

whose light grey colour is similar to
that of the light grey of natural patina
upon installation. Quartz Zinc offers a
uniform and homogenous patina and
colour from the moment of fabrication.
Its patina remains absolutely stable
over time and is perfectly environmentally
friendly.
This unique process of pre-weathering
on Zinc leads to a more uniform
appearance and gives the roof and
the cladding the gloss and colour of
the natural patina of natural Zinc from
the moment it is installed.

OIL CANNING
Whether a metal will appear flat or
not depends on the distribution of
the stresses across its surface. These
stresses will change as temperature
changes. The ability of a metal to
transfer the effect of these stresses
across the surface without buckling or
distorting out of plan, will determine
the level of oil canning that will
occur.
Oil canning is a metaphorical term
used to describe the tendency of flat
surfaces to show variations in
reflectivity. For example, a curved
mirror will show a stretched and
distorted image of a person standing
in front of it. So too will a metal
surface distort the reflection of light if
minor variations in and out of a level
plane exist. The appearance of flatness
is very much dependent on surface
reflectivity. It is also caused by mill
tolerances, variations in the substrate/
decking and purlin alignment. Some
paint finishes and metals that have
high gloss index will exhibit highly
apparent distortion. The visual effects
of oil canning can be exacerbated by
different light conditions and
orientation. Darker colours visually
accentuate oil canning to a greater
extent than the lighter, more neutral
colours.
There are several precautions that can
be taken to reduce the oil canning
effect. One is to use thicker material,
because thicker metal tends to oil-can
less than thinner metal. An alternative
is to specify for LYSAGHT LOCKED
SEAM trays with stiffening ribs in the
pan of the panels.

Kranji Racecourse - Stainless Steel, Singapore

Oil canning is an inherent characteristic

and not a defect of a standing seam
profile. It is therefore not a cause for
panel rejection.
