1 PURPOSE
This Method Statement describes removal and satisfactory disposal of all vegetation, surface debris and
scattered stones and rocks within the limits of the actual road width (including the toes of fill and cut
slopes and an additional 5m wide band from both sides), easement areas and borrow pits.
2 SCOPE
This Method Statement covers the clearing and grubbing and topsoil management for all construction
sites associated with the construction of Dualization of Bidbid-Sur Road, Section 2, Part 2 Project.

6 DESCRIPTION
6.1 SETTING OUT OF RIGHT OF WAY
Prior to the commencement of the works the setting out of the right of way shall be carried out by the
qualified Surveyor to ensure the extent of which the site clearance works is required.

Setting out will be made in accordance to Method Statement KAS-CC JV/BS2P2/MS//QA/001 SURVEY
CONTROL.
6.2 SITE CLEARING WORKS
Engineer will be asked to designate all trees, shrubs, plants, vegetation, etc and other items that are to
remain within the right-of-way (ROW). All such items shall carefully preserve from damage or
defacement. Trees to be removed and delivered for replanting shall be carefully handled. Should it
requires to be removed and demolished, then the Public Relations Officer (PRO) in cooperation with Site
Engineer shall arrange for the demolition and tree removal permit to the relevant Authority.

All surface objects, trees, stumps, roots, stones and rocks (up to 0.2 m
3
or 500 kg individual size or
weight), and other protruding obstructions not designated to be retained shall be cleared or grubbed to
ground level. Nonperishable solid objects (such as boulders, rocks, concrete blocks, etc.) which will be a
minimum of 2 m below the sub-grade or finished ground level may be left undisturbed at the Engineers
discretion. If such nonperishable objects are encountered within 2m below the sub-grade or finished
ground level, they will be removed and considered as unsuitable material.

Stump holes and other holes from which obstructions are removed within the limits of construction, shall
be backfilled with suitable material and compacted in accordance to relevant Method Statement and
specifications (. Small holes that are inaccessible to compaction / tamping equipment shall be filled and
tamped manually using a steel rod with a 10-15 cm diameter steel disc attached to its end.

Perishable material shall be disposed of or burned under the constant care of competent watchmen at
such times and in such a manner that any vegetation or other items designated to remain in the ROW, or
other adjacent property, will not be jeopardized. Burning shall be carried out in accordance with
applicable laws and ordinances.

Materials, stones, rocks, and debris which cannot be burned and perishable materials, shall be removed
from the ROW and disposed of at dumping areas off the Site, approved by the concerned authorities,
provided permission of the respective property owners has been obtained in writing to dump such
materials on their land. Necessary arrangements with property owners shall make all for obtaining such
written permission in coordination

Where specified certain materials arising from the site clearance and excavation are to remain the
property of the Employer. All fossils, antiquities and other objects of interest or value which may be found
or uncovered on the site shall remain or become the property of the Employer and upon discovery at such
an object the JV shall forthwith:

i. Endeavour not to disturb or damage the object
ii. Cease work which would endanger the object or prevent or impede its removal
iii. Inform the Engineer immediately of the discovery and precise location of the object.

Engineer shall be asked for instructions on the procedure to be adopted which may include conditions to
permit the examination, excavation or removal of the object by a third party.

During the site clearing works, the following shall be monitored:
Extent of the site clearing works
Grubbing out of roots
Removal of rubbish, vegetable matter etc. from site
Removal and diversion of existing utilities

If required, the construction team will construct temporary drains system and desilting pits to the
approval of the Engineer after the grubbing works.
6.3 DIVERSION AND PROTECTION OF SERVICES
All existing utilities and services, etc. which come within the area of works shall be disconnected or
diverted by the relevant authority.

The Construction Manager shall provide cable/services detecting devices to locate any retained services at
the proposed line of excavation.

6.4 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING.
The construction team shall maintain all existing site excess, roads, footpath, service drain, etc. and
reinstate any damage caused by any reason whatsoever during the progress of the works.

It will be the Construction Managers responsibility to ensure that ingress and egress to the site are kept
free from obstruction brought about by the work on this site and in no way shall cause hindrance to traffic
or ancillary works either by his own vehicles or by his work people, material, etc.

Traffic management shall be in accordance to Traffic Management Plan.
7 QUALITY ASSURANCE
KAS-CC JV/BS2P2/ITP/QA/001 Clearing and Grubbing shall be followed for inspection and testing.
8 HEALTH AND SAFETY
Instructions and recommendations mentioned on Health, Safety and Environmental Plan shall be followed.
9 ENVIRONMENT
Instructions and recommendations mentioned on Health, Safety and Environmental Plan shall be followed.
