Point of View
Fairy Tale
Re-write

All stories are told from a point-of-view (who is telling the story). We are going to
practice writing from a particular point of view.

Almost all of the popular fairy tales are told in third person usually from an all-knowing
narrator. You will choose a favorite fairy tale and rewrite it from a particular characters point
of view. The character does not have to be a protagonist! For example, you could tell, Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs from Grumpys point of view. You must be careful as the 1
st

person narrator only knows what he is thinking and what he sees and had been told. He probably
has no idea about the magic mirror, the Queens thoughts, the huntsmans thought, etc.

Assignment:

1. Pick a fairy tale you are interested in retelling you may want to choose one you
already are familiar with
a. You must look up and re-read the fairy tale to familiarize yourself with the
plot.
b. Use the library or the internet. You can make arrangements to use the
Media Center with Mrs. Perryman.
2. Organize your thoughts and plan of attack using the graphic organizer.
3. Rewrite your fairly tale from a new characters point of view. Remember:
since you are changing the POV, think of how the story will change will the
moral of the story be the same?
4. A rough draft will be edited by your peers before you publish your story. Rough
Drafts are due on Tuesday, September 16
th

5. Turn your rewrite into a new childrens book!
o You must create a cover for your new fairy tale book (this should be
relevant to your updated version)
o You must illustrate every page of your story with a vivid, detailed image
relevant to the action/setting at that point in the story. Printed Pictures are
fine as well.
o Your childrens book must have at least 600 words and be at least 8
pages (or 4 pages front/back) and this does not include the front and back
