5. What is the purpose of the World Wide Web Consortium and what work does it perform?
The World Wide Web Consortium is the main standards organization that was founded
by Tim Berners-Lee at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Laboratory for Computer
Science. They try to enforce compatibility among industry members in the adoption of new
standards. The consortium tries to establish a set of core principles to be used by all vendors in
an attempt to standardize HTML.
6. What are the benefits of diagramming your site before you begin coding?
Using diagrams for planning a website allows the designer and the customer to
understand the organization of the website and the navigation paths that will be used. By using
diagrams during the design phase of the site it is easy to makes sure the navigation between
pages is not confusing to users.
7. What are the benefits of using a text editor to create a website?
Some of the benefits of using HTML editors are the ease of web design. Basically
anyone can use an HTML editor to create a web site. HTML editors allow web pages to be
designed quickly without any programming knowledge which also makes them a great way for
new designers to learn web design.
8. What are the advantages of linking by using text instead of graphics?
There are many benefits to linking to text over graphics. Some easy to identify benefits
would be the fewer graphics on a page the quicker it will load and navigate. Fewer graphics
require smaller amounts of web storage. There has been research done regarding eye tracking
that shows people are more drawn to text than graphics. Using text over graphics also helps
people find your site easier when using search engines.
10. To what does the phrase Flexible Design refer?
Flexible designs are also known as a liquid design. They are designed to accommodate a
variety of browsers, screen resolutions, operating systems and monitors. Todays technology
allows people to use phones and other mobile devices to access the web. Therefore, the ability of
a website to adjust to the visitor's device is becoming more important.

12. What is a Wireframe used for in Web design?
Wireframes are used to create a blueprint when designing a new website. They are used
because they are much easier to modify and change during the design phase. Wireframes are a
visual guide used to represent the skeletal framework of a new website. Wireframe show the
layout and arrangement of the designs content to include interface elements, navigational
systems, and how they interact. Wireframes are usually just black and white drawings without
color or graphics. Wireframes can be drawn with pencil or they can be produced by software
applications.
13. Of what four (4) conditions for use should you be aware when identifying your target
audience?
Four important conditions to be aware of when designing a website are the customers
needs, navigation, coloring, and branding requirements.
14. What are the four (4) design principles that you should follow when developing your web
site, and how is each defined?
Alignment: this means that all related items on the page should line up with each other.
This gives a sense of order to your web page.
Proximity: means that related items should be close together. When proximity is applied
to headings, it means that a heading should be closer to the text that follows it than the
text that precedes it. This facilitates reading and comprehension, and makes the page look
organized.
Repetition: means that you should repeat some elements from page to page to give the
pages continuity. This is natural for web pages, starting with the header, which is usually
the same on all pages. Keep the format consistent, and the viewer will know where to
look for similar information.
Contrast: this is what draws your eye to the components on a web page. A component
with a large heading or a bright background will draw the viewers attention because it
stands out from the other components of the page. Contrast can be created with color,
size, type, and shapes.
15. What is a grid and how is it used in relationship to a web page?
A grid is a layout device that allows a designer to align webpage content into rows and
columns. They are typically used in web design to maintain consistency throughout a
website.
