Mexico is in a state of national emergency: More than 60,000 people have
been killed and over 10,000 have disappeared in violence caused by the failed war on drugs. Both the U.S. and Mexico must take responsibility for their complicity in causing this violence and su!ering. Survivors of violence, citizens and more than 100 civil society organizations in Mexico and the United States have decided to participate in the Caravan for Peace in the hope that as we meet as neighbors, we will engage in a friendly but critical dialogue to promote justice and dignity, and through this, achieve a much-needed peace. The Caravan is a peaceful exercise in citizen diplomacy organized by Mexicos Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (Movimiento por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad, MPJD). The Caravan will travel by bus through 27 US cities from August 11th to September 12th with more than 100 relatives of victims and activists, aiming to build a dialogue and foster the exchange of concerns regarding the failed war on drugs and the painful consequences it has generated for both our countries, such as death, mass incarceration, torture, and disappearances. SEND A MESSAGE OF PEACE TO THE CARAVAN4PEACE: Our Vision On Drug War policies. We call on both Mexican and U.S. communities to open and maintain a dialogue about alternatives to drug prohibition based on evidence, and which is inclusive in its considerations of the diverse options for drug regulation. On arms trafcking. We propose that the U.S. President immediately prohibit the importation of assault weapons to the US, and give authorities effective regulatory tools and resources to halt arms smuggling in the border regions. On immigration. We urge an end to militarization of the border and criminalization of immigrants. These have generated a humanitarian crisis driven by unprecedented levels of deportations and incarceration of migrants. We call for protecting the dignity of every human being, including immigrant populations that have been displaced by violence who seek safe haven and a better life. On US foreign policy. We call for a change from the United States war focus to one of human security and development that promotes the healing of Mexicos torn social fabric. We propose the immediate suspension of US assistance to Mexicos armed forces. On money laundering. We propose that nancial institutions be held accountable for preventing money laundering through increased government surveillance, investigations, nes and criminal charges. We also call for the Treasury Department to immediately close the prepaid/stored value cards loophole Who participates in the Caravan? The Caravan gathers together Mexican citizens, members of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, drug war victims (individual and collective cases related to violence, crime and human rights violations), activists, and the media, as well as dozens of diverse but like-minded U.S. organizations, and anyone who is interested (For a list of allies, visit: http://www.caravanforpeace.org/caravan/?page_id=1033 ) - 0iganize youi own local event foi the !"#$% '() "* +,-."/ *"# 01(,1 ./ 213.," (/% -" 4/% -51 '#67 !(# on the 12th of Septembei. - visit the Caiavans website page to spieau the woiu & join events on the 12th of Septembei:
