INTRODUCTION
GENERAL
PETRONAS Carigali Overseas Sdn Bhd (PCOSB) is undertaking development of Thai Binh field,
which is located approximately 20 km offshore southeast from Hai Phong port, S. R. Vietnam in
the Blocks 102&106, with a water depth of 25-30 m.
There is no existing facility nearby Thai Binh field. It is planned to have a wellhead platform
(WHP) tie back to onshore terminal at Tien Hai terminal via a 16-inch approximately 20 km
pipeline. Refer to Figure 1.1 for base case schematic of Thai Binh field development.
CONTRACTOR is engaged to undertake Conceptual and FEED Engineering services for one (01)
WHP for Thai Binh project (i.e. TBDP-A). The gas evacuation from TBDP-A will be directed to
onshore terminal via a 16-inch pipeline designed and installed by OTHERS. TBDP-A platform is
anticipated to handle a maximum gas capacity of 26 mmscfd. First gas is scheduled in Quarter 3,
2013.
TBDP-A shall be a drilling platform which would accommodate four (04) conductor slots. A dry ring
main shall be provided for use during drilling. As TBDP-A is a riser hub for Northern Gas Network
Development, future tie-in facilities shall also be provided.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The results of substructural in-place analysis reveal that the proposed jacket configuration is
adequate to withstand forces induced under various operation and design conditions for the inservice condition.
Some key conclusions are highlighted as follows:

The substructural configuration is technically feasible to withstand simultaneous

production and drilling (by jack-up rig) operation up to both 1-year operating storm and
100-year extreme storm.
The platform requires three (3) nos. of 1372mm through leg piles with 112m penetration.
The platform is designed to support four (4) conductors, i.e., two (2) 660508mm
conductors and two (2) 660mm future conductors.
The platform is designed to accommodate some future equipment that may be installed
on the platform, i.e., future pig receivers and one future 12 risers.

COMPUTER MODEL
A three-dimensional space frame computer model of the structure shall been used for the
analysis. The model shall at least consist of the following:

Jacket structure (leg, cans, vertical and horizontal diagonal braces)

Piles above mudline
Conductors (2 nos. current 2620, and 2 nos. future 26)
Risers (1 no. 16, 1 no. 12 future)
Boatlanding (1 no.)
Riser guard (1 no.)
Open drain caisson (1 no.)
Topsides model

The piles shall be modeled at their actual penetration below the mud line. The pile-soil behavior
shall be modeled through the p-y, t-z and q-z curves based on Geotechnical Investigation Report
for BH TB-WHP Block 102 & 106 Offshore Vietnam, Vietnam Report No:
PGSSI/SI/20121/22/PCOSB-11/FR (1.0)01/FR(C).
The Platform North of TB WHP is orientated at 900 anti-clockwise from the True North.
The coordinate system shall have the origin at the intersection of Row A and Row 2 at Mean Sea
Level (MSL) with the following conventions:

Z axis vertical upwards

Y axis aligned with platform North
X axis determined using the right-hand rule (i.e aligned with platform East).

: SACS generated selfweight is lower than its Topsides (Topsides Load Formulation
Report no: TBDP-A-S-RPT-2011), due to load factor on buoyancy is 1.2 and 1.0 for
substructure and Topside respectively.

: For more detailed Topsides loads, please refer to TBDP-A Topsides Load Formulation
Report no: TBDP-A-S-RPT-2011.

Refer to Doc. No. TBPD-A-S-RPT-1011 Rev.10 Substructure Load Formulation Report for the
detailed calculations. Please refer computer output for basic load case in Attachment 2.1.

ANALYSIS
The in-place analysis is performed using SACS Pre and Solve processors based on a linear
elastic response of the structure under static loading conditions as described above.
The analysis procedure is based on a linear elastic response of the structure under static loading
conditions. The structure is idealized as a three-dimensional space frame made of beam-column
finite elements with defined boundary conditions.
The soil / structure interaction analysis treats the jacket structure as being linear with a non-linear
soil foundation. This is achieved by reducing the jacket structure to an equivalent boundary
stiffness and load vector at the pile heads. The non-linear pile / soil interaction is solved using PSI
which obtains the pile-head displacements, rotations and forces and compares them with that of
the structure. PSI continues to iterate until convergence is obtained or the number of iterations
reaches a set limit.
The analysis comprising various combined load cases is executed in one single run.

SUBSTRUCTURE MAXIMUM JOINT UNITY CHECK

Joint strength checks were performed on all the tubular to tubular joints as per API RP2A WSD,
21st Edition, 2007. The joint can unity check summary shows load and strength unity checks. The
load in the brace determines the load unity checks, while the strength unity check is calculated
with a brace force equal to 50% of the effective strength of the brace. All joint are in compliance
with code check requirements. Table 6.2 presents the joint load unity check summary greater than
0.5700 for main and brace joints and strength UC >1 for primary joint. A full joint unity check listing
is included in Attachment 4.
All strength load Uunity check of primary joints are less than one.

MAXIMUM RELATIVE JOINT DEFLECTIONSDISPLACEMENTS

The maximum relative lateral joint deflection displacement for the overall substructure is
3.3832.659 cmm and 10.678 6.534 mcm for operating and storm condition respectively. The
allowable deflection displacement is HH/200. (19800/200=99) mm. Detail deflections
displacements are presented in Attachment 5. A summary of maximum relative joint deflections
displacement are shown in the following table.

PILE UNITY CHECK

Pile code checks are performed in accordance to API RP2A Working Stress Design (WSD) 21 st
Edition [Ref. 1]. Basic allowance stresses are used for normal operating conditions. A one-third
(1/3) increase in basic allowable stress is considered for extreme storm conditions. Further
detailed is given in Attachment 6..
The pile analysis results showed that all piles are in compliance with code check requirement.
