DEFINITION

An ecosystem consists of all the living things in a physical

environment, and their interaction with their habitat and between
the different living things. Ecosystems can be small, like a pond, or
large, like a rainforest or the biosphere (is the largest ecosystem).

COMPONENTS
LIVING THINGS
Plants in an
ecosystem are
called flora.
Animals are
called fauna.
There are also
fungi, bacteria
and algae.
HABITAT
It refers to the
non-living
things elements
of a place which
affect livings
things, such as
soil, air, water,
climate and
temperature.
INTERACTION
The interaction
established
between the
different living
things and
between the
living things and
the physical
environment.

TERRESTRIAL
ECOSYSTEMS:
Forests, grasslands and
desserts are terrestrial
ecosystems. Many livings
things live in forests and
grasslands. The abundant
vegetations provide them
with food. Few living things
live in deserts because there
is little food.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS:
POLLUTION: Pollution is the contamination
of air, soil and water.
GLOBAL WARMING: The Earth releases
heat into space. Carbon dioxide in the
environment stops this heat from escaping.
As the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is
increasing the Earths temperature is being
higher.
DEFORESTATION: It is the loss of forests.
People cut down trees for wood and to
make space for farmland.
LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY: Biodiversity is all
the species of living things in an ecosystem.
Pollution, global warming and deforestation
are causing the extinction of many species.

GOING GREEN

There are many
things we can do to
protect the
environment:
- Save water:
having
showers
instead of
baths.
- Save
electricity.
- Save fuel:
using public
transport.
- Recycle
some
materials
(paper,
glass, plastic
)
- Protect
natural
spaces and
endangered
species.
- Reduce
