Welcome to VIA
As a student in VIA you have access to a large number of number of IT services supplied by VIAs IT
department, VIA IT.
With one VIAlogin username and password you can gain access to
VIAmail, a web-based email system
VIA Studynet, a web-based system of knowledge sharing
My website, your own site in VIA where you can save and share documents
VIAnet, an open wireless net at all VIAs educations
VIAmeeting, a video conference system
VIAwebprint, a print system where you have the possibility of printing from your own
computer and where no installation of print drivers is required. VIAwebprint can be used
from all platforms.
VIAprint, a print system where you can print to plotters and special printers in VIA.
VIAprint requires installation of print drivers and can only be used from Windows
computers.
VIA SMS, receive text messages from VIA Studynet
VIAmedia, a web-based collection of programs from the Danish television channels DR,
DR2 and TV2
VIAshop, here you can deposit money for payment of e.g. printout
In addition to the above, VIA also offers a number of other IT services which may vary depending on
which education in VIA you are attending.
This user manual gives a brief description on how you gain access to VIAs IT services. You can find

VIA IT is VIAs IT department
Almost 75 persons work in VIA IT
VIA IT provides assistance to all IT users in VIA on how to use
VIAs IT services both locally at the educations and through our
Service Desk
In total VIA IT helps approximately 50000 users with 10000
computers placed at 52 addresses
There are approximately 17000 users in VIA
There are approximately 5000 computers in VIA
The Wireless net, VIAnet, is used on a daily basis by
approximately 10000 students

Around 10000 students are daily users of the wireless net,

VIAlogin your unique log-in to all shared IT services in VIA
In connection with the start of your study you will get a VIA ID. Your VIA ID is autogenerated and
consists of a number of digits. Your VIA ID also forms your VIA email address followed by @viauc.dk

Example: VIA ID = 123456 VIA email address = 123456@viauc.dk

Your VIA ID or your VIA email address should be used in connection with your VIAlogin see the list
below.

If you are a new student, please note that in order to gain access to VIAs IT systems you need to visit
VIA Start at the address www.start.via.dk. Here you need to approve the rules for using IT at VIA,
upload your picture which is to be used at e.g. your student identity card, type in your mobile number
which is to be used for our SMS service and change your password for VIAs IT services.
In order to log on to the page, type in your VIA ID in the field user name and your one-time password;
both your VIA ID and your one-time password have been sent to you in a separate e-mail.
Your VIAlogin and password are personal. Therefore, never give your password to others or
send or write your password in emails or other places.
VIA IT will never ask for your password without a previous dialogue.

VIAnet
VIAnet is the net, which, among other things, is sent out as a wireless net at VIAs educations. VIAnet
is an open net, however, your need to open a browser in order to gain access to the Internet.
1. Connect to VIAnet from your computer
2. Open a browser e.g. Internet Explorer
3. Type in your VIA ID in the box User name and your password in the box Password.

Facts on VIA Studynet
Generally, you can avoid having to log on more than one
time. Find more information under IT user manuals at VIA
Studynet.

However during the summer of 2013 VIA Studynet was
converted to a new Studynet. This means that there may
still be some things which have not been moved to the new
Studynet yet and which are still linked to the old Studynet.
In this case you may need to log on more than one time.

VIA Studynet
VIA Studynet is a web-based system which can be used for co-operation and knowledge sharing. VIA
Studynet may look different depending on the education you are attending.

Open VIA Studynet by opening a browser e.g. Internet Explorer and write http://studienet.via.dk
This will bring you to the front page (Home) of VIA Studynet.
Next click on English in the upper right corner.

Among other things, VIA Studynet contains:
Home - the front page and your personal access which provides you with quick access to:
o Mail shows the recent 5 mails from your VIAmail inbox.
o Announcements shows the recent 5 announcements from the websites you
subscribe to.
o Calendar shows the next 5 appointments from your VIAmail calendar.
o Courses shows the direct links to the courses you are attending.
o Groups shows the links to your groups.
o VIA News shows news from VIA.
Programme is the gateway to important information from your Programme.
Announcements shows a summary of new messages, debates and documents on the sites
you subscribe to.
Groups gives you an overview of all the collaboration rooms, you are a member of such as
Project Websites Councils and Commissions etc. It is also from this page you can create new
groups.
Campus provides access to all address specific facilities and services - such as IT, library,
practical info etc.
Courses displays all your active course lists document libraries, rights, etc.

You have 500 MB space for documents and data
Facts on VIAmail
You have 100 MB space for emails
You can send and receive emails which are smaller than 50
MB
All courses are set up as receivers. Accordingly, you can send
emails to courses
When possible we recommend that you use Studynet to
communicate with your fellow students instead of using your
VIAmail.
My website
My website is located on the old Studynet, but can also be accessed from the new Studynet.
At My website you can save, download and share documents and data. You can do this at all
places, as long as you have a browser, e.g. Internet Explorer and access to the Internet.
If you use the folder Personal documents to save your documents, you will be the only person with
access to these documents.
If you use the folder Shared documents to save your documents, other users in VIA have access to
read the documents. You can also create your own profile which can be seen by other users in VIA.

VIAmail
Your email address in VIA is your VIA ID + @viauc.dk (Example: 123456@viauc.dk)

You can gain access to VIAmail by opening a browser, e.g. Internet Explorer and write:
http://mail.viauc.dk

VIAwebprint
Printing from your own computer may be easily done.
VIAwebprint demands no installation of print drivers on the computer and may be used from all
platforms, including both Windows and MAC from the address http://webprint.viauc.dk
In order to print you need a VIAcard, just as you need to have money deposited on your account.

VIAprint
If you need to plot or to print to special printers from your own computer it is necessary to have the
associated print drivers installed. This can be done from the address: http://print.viauc.dk
In order to print to plotters or to special printers in VIA you need a VIAcard, just as you need to have
money deposited on your account.

Contact your local IT support if you need help to install printers on your computer.

VIAshop
You can deposit money on your VIAcard through the Internet on: http://shop.viauc.dk
Choose English in the right corner of the page.

VIAmeeting (Lync)
VIAmeeting is a video conference system which can be used to contact your fellow students and your
teachers. The video conference system can be used on Windows and Mac-computers.

Useful Hints
In order to make the best possible use of the different IT services, you need to add VIAs
home pages to the websites which you trust.

In order to do this, open Internet Explorer and follow the below instructions:
1. Choose Tools (Alt + X) >Internet options
2. Choose the tab Security
3. Choose Trusted sites
4. Click Sites
5. If checked then uncheck Require server verificification
6. Write http://*.via.dk
7. Click Add
8. Write http://*viauc.dk and close all Windows
