la"er un#tionalit". It ensures that .essa$es #an be delivered
bet'een si$nallin$ !oints a#ross the SS& net'or% re$ardless o
'hether the" are dire#tl" #onne#ted. It in#ludes su#h #a!abilities as
node addressin$, routin$, alternate routin$, and #on$estion #ontrol.
Signalling Connection Control Part (SCCP)
The si$nallin$ #onne#tion #ontrol !art -S33P/ !rovides t'o .a4or
un#tions that are la#%in$ in the 0TP. The irst o these is the
#a!abilit" to address a!!li#ations 'ithin a si$nalin$ !oint. The 0TP
#an onl" re#eive and deliver .essa$es ro. a node as a 'hole5 it
does not deal 'ith sot'are a!!li#ations 'ithin a node.
6hile 0TP net'or%-.ana$e.ent .essa$es and basi# #all-setu!
.essa$es are addressed to a node as a 'hole, other .essa$es are
used b" se!arate a!!li#ations -reerred to as subs"ste.s/ 'ithin a
node. Exa.!les o subs"ste.s are 700 #all !ro#essin$, #allin$-#ard
!ro#essin$, advan#ed intelli$ent net'or% -8IN/, and #usto. lo#al-

bet'een a!!li#ations -de!lo"ed as subs"ste.s/ in nodes. It is used or
database servi#es su#h as #allin$ #ard, 700, and 8IN as 'ell as s'it#h-
to-s'it#h servi#es in#ludin$ re!eat diallin$ and #all return. :e#ause
T38P .essa$es .ust be delivered to individual a!!li#ations 'ithin the
