MDA 325, Case Studies in Modern Leadership

USC students have a special opportunity this spring to study with a world leader, together with one of USC's most highly rated professors, in an intensive study of international politics and economics. MDA 325, Case Studies in Modern Leadership (section 42295), is a special two-unit course open to all undergraduate students. The class will meet from Tuesday, April 7th to Thursday, April 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and once at the beginning of the spring semester. Some of the topics planned to be discussed include the world financial crisis of 2008, climate change and the summit of 2009, global growth and the role of the U.S., the role of the United Nations in regards to poverty, education and disease, and an analysis of what the world may look like in 2025.

April 7 to April 16, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM USC students have a special opportunity this spring to study with a world leader, together with one of USC's most highly rated professors, in an intensive study of international politics and economics. Gordon Brown played a central role in containing the international financial crisis of 2008. Other topics in this two-week class are planned to include the world financial crisis of 2008, climate change and the summit of 2009, global growth and the role of the U.S., the role of the United Nations in regards to poverty, education and disease, and an analysis of what the world may look like in 2025.
Gordon Brown served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2007 to 2010. As Prime Minister, Browns tenure coincided with the start of the global financial crisis. He was one of the first to initiate calls for global financial action and is credited with preventing a second Great Depression. In July, 2012 he was made UN Special Envoy for Global Education. He is a passionate advocate for global action to ensure education for all. He also chairs the Global Strategic Infrastructure Initiative for The World Economic Forum and serves as New York Universitys inaugural Distinguished Global Leader in Residence.
Steve Lamy is Vice Dean for Academic Programs in USC Dornsife and professor of international relations specializing in foreign policy analysis, human security, and foreign policies of the Western nation-states with emphasis on Western European states, the U.S. and Canada. Dean Lamy has worked with faculty development programs abroad and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching, research and civic engagement. He is an active contributor to major international relations journals, conferences and workshops.
This special two-unit section of MDA 325 (section 42295) is open to all undergraduate students. Students registered in this course are expected to attend every class meeting from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday through Thursday, April 7 th to 9 th
and Monday through Thursday, April 13 th to 16 th . The class will also meet once at the beginning of the spring semester. Students enrolled in MDA 325 will be notified of the date, time and location by email. Inquiries may be directed to 213.740.2961 or mvelasqu@usc.edu.
