almost 20 years ago.
Clean, powerful, extremely fuel-
efcient and very simple to
maintain, these robustly-built
engines represent the future
of agricultural power. Available
with 3, 4, 6 or 7 cylinders, this
remarkable range of engines
delivers between 44 and 500 hp
(with boost) rated power and are
designed specically for farming
and other off-road applications.

AGCO SISU POWER
AGCO SISU POWER has its origins
in diesel engine manufacture more
than 60 years ago in Finland. By
the early 1950s, the company was
building some of the rst direct
injection and turbo-charged diesel
engines ever to be produced.
They rapidly developed a
reputation for quality and
innovation which is just as
evident today. In 1957, the rst
SISU diesel-engined tractor was
launched, incorporating some new
features - liquid engine cooling,
direct injection and wet replaceable
cylinder liners, for example - that
are still used in AGCO SISU
POWER engines today.
The company responded to
the markets desire for more
horsepower by developing ever-
larger engines. 1960 saw the
establishment of a plant in Mogi
das Cruzes, Brazil and in 1994
SISU commenced Diesel engine
production there.
However, as far back as 1991,
Massey Ferguson took the
decision to start using SISU
tractor engines and the
MF 3680 was the rst
model to benet from this
new direction.
In 2004, AGCO acquired SISU
Diesels engine factories in Finland
and Brazil, since which time it has
invested more than 30 million in
upgrading and refurbishing the
production facilities. AGCO are
currently investing in new SISU
manufacturing facilities in Russia
and China which will further
increase production capacity to
meet the increased demand for
SISU engines.
Today, more than 30,000 engines
are built annually and the business
employs nearly 700 people. It is
estimated that there are more
than half a million SISU engines
providing vital power around
the world.

Designed specically for
demanding off-road applications,
the new 3rd Generation Series has
been developed to be the most
economic agricultural engines in
the world. They have also been
engineered to emit lower carbon
emissions without compromising
their impressive fuel economy.
This is achieved by a combination
of innovative features high
injection pressure, precision
injection timing and effective
charge air cooling. At the same
time, power density and torque
levels have been boosted,
while maintaining optimum
fuel efciency.
The very latest control system, high
pressure fuel injection and turbo-
charger work together in perfect
harmony to enable the engine to
react immediately to changing
load conditions.
Torque rise is rapid and remains
high at lower engine speeds to
ensure the most efcient operation
and maximum fuel savings.
AGCO SISU POWER diesel
engines are built to the highest
quality standards to ensure
many years of robust, reliable
performance, and are very
straightforward to operate
and simple to maintain.
The modular design and
commonalty of parts between 3,
4, 6 and 7 cylinder engines makes
service and parts availability
simple and convenient. The entire
fuel system is located on the cool
side of the engine, while the fuel
lters are easily accessible for
quick replacement without tools
or spillage. All service points have
been positioned for ease
of access.
Engine noise caused by the
combustion process has also
been signicantly reduced.

Mike Mathias runs Farming and Engineering Services in Malawi,
which he describes as a one-stop shop where you can purchase a
tractor, lease it, rent it or even contract us in to do the work for you.
Operations undertaken include land preparation, spraying, muck-
spreading and laser levelling.
Exceptional torque

engines an MF 8250, an MF
8280 and three MF 8480s of
which Mike is very happy with the
performance and fuel efciency.
When we compared the fuel
efciency of our old MF 9240
(Cummins 3 Series, 255 hp) with
the MF 8280 (260 hp), the MF 8280
is +/- 6 litres an hour more efcient
when working on heavy land prep.
It is also important to note that the
torque of the MF 8280 is so much
greater than the MF 9240, which is
critical in heavy land prep. In fact,
even the MF 8250, which is only
210 hp, has better torque than the
MF 9240, he reports.
Our MF 8280 has now done over
17,000 hours and a recent engine
oil analysis test conrmed that it
is still good and the tractor will
remain in the eet.
Two of the MF 8480s, coupled with
laser-controlled scrapers, levelled
more than 1,000 hectares of land
between May and October last
year, moving 625,000 m

of soil
and using less than 0.3 litres
of fuel per m

.
The CVT transmission and active
suspension make the MF 8480 the
perfect tractor for scraper work,
as you cannot stall the engine,
explains Mike. And when you hit a
deep cut or hard patch, the engine
torque is quite exceptional.

ranging from the smallest 40 kva to
the biggest 275 kva Power Series
generator sets and we are very
happy with their performance
to date.
