COURSE SYLLABUS
HEALTH ASSESSMENT


Course description:

This course is designed to provide students a systematic approach to the
advanced assessment of physiological, psychological, sociocultural,
developmental and spiritual needs of patients. The course builds on basic health
assessment skills and emphasize on advanced assessment skills, lab
interpretations, validation, documentation and analysis of normal findings,
common variations and abnormal assessment findings.

Course objectives

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to: -
Conduct holistic assessment, including physiological, psychological,
sociocultural, developmental and spiritual variables.
Implement advanced communication skills in completing the in-depth health
history
Appropriately integrate lab findings with the patients holistic assessment
Accurately document holistic assessment findings
Appropriately analyze gross and subtle abnormalities to begin to formulate a
differential diagnosis and nursing diagnosis based on assessment findings

Clinical objective

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: -

Elicit comprehensive and episodic health history using appropriate
communication techniques with children and adults
Perform a complete and episodic physical exam on an infant, child,
adolescents and adults
Correlate the history and physical exam findings with biochemical,
radiological and/or other assessments findings
Distinguish normal, variation of normal and abnormal findings
