NAWAZ SHARIF:

Nawaz Sharif is the current Prime Minister of Pakistan


and the President of PML-N. The veteran politician
entered in politics in 1!". #nd in 1!$ with a
landslide ma%orit& he was elected as the chief
minister of Pakistan. The post earned him the title of
'Lion of Pun%a()* once that was the nickname of

This silenced the dou(ts that Sharif was losin/
support in his home constituenc&.
The Sharif led /overnment faced man& challen/es

/overnment trem(lin/ the PT-* P#T started sit-ins
claimin/ that the /overnment had stolen the
mandate of people (& ri//in/ the /eneral elections
of :"13* and a slo/an of '+4 N#5#= +4) was
launched demandin/ the PM to resi/n. The Prime
Minister remained adamant and re%ected all such
demands comin/ u with a strate/& to 'save
democrac&). Sharif successfull& mana/ed to /et main
parties such as PPP* M>M* ?@- A on (oard in an
attempt to save the parliament and instead started
focusin/ on the Bood issue.
Sharif has a reputation of maintainin/ friendl&
relations with -ndia* despite the fact that he ordered
nuclear test in response to -ndia)s nuclear test* which
is a feather in the cap of PMLN)s /overnment. Sharif
recentl& demanded* in @N* -ndia to produce a
solution for the ,ashmir pro(lem* this resulted in
violation of L42 (& -ndia and more hostilit& was
shown (& the -ndian PM. Sharif never replied* instead

Sharif initaiated the thirteenth amendment in the
Parliament* which stripped the President of its power.

power of Prime Minister. akistan1s s&stem of
/overnment was shifted from Semi-Presedential
S&stem to Parliamentar& democratic repu(lic s&stem.
Aourteenth #mmendment was also passed in the

CHAUDARY NISAR:
2haudhar& Nisar is a veteran politician and has (een
elected ! time to the national assem(l&. De currentl&
holds the oCce of -nterior Ministr& and served as the
Leader of opposition from :""!-:"13. Nisar
previousl& served twice as Aederal Minister for
Petroleum and Natural <esources E"-3F* E7-F.
De was elected from the constituenc& of N#-$: in
<awalpindi. De simultaneousl& lost from N#-$3 from
a PT- candidate. 2h Nisar acted as mediator (etween
PT- and PMLN. Gurin/ the process* -mran ,han
invited Nisar to %oin PT- and his inte/rit& was
.uestioned that whether he would reman lo&al to
PMLN or not. Dowever* Nisar cleared all the dou(ts
(& statin/ that his alle/iance was to PMLN and
Nawaz Sharif. #nd this (ecame apparent when the
PT- chief (randed him as )#dmiral +eneral Nisar) and
the -slama(ad police for attackin/ the PT- H P#T

handlin/the terrorist. Nisar was a supporter of talks

Nisar* over the time* has emer/ed as a politician with

of Pakistan.
KHAWAJA ASIF:
,hawa%a #sif %oined PMLN in the earl& ")s and
(ecame a %unior senator in 13. De remained the
2hairman of Priviatzation 2ommittee from 7- (ut
eventuall& was terminated (& the coup of 1. #sif
was arrested and was su(%ected to torture in a
prison. De remained lo&al to PMLN and Nawaz Sharif.
De was re-elected in :"13 /eneral elections from
Sialkot N# 11"* (ut his win remained a disputed one
since it was challen/ed that the PMLN ri//ed
elections there and it was one of the constituenc&
where PT- demanded a recount. #sif was assi/ned
the oCce of Ministr& of 5ater and Power. Later* he
was assi/ned the oCce of Gefence Ministr&.
Aew months earlier* #sif was held accounta(le for a
speech that he made a/ainst the arm& /enerals in
the Musharaf era. De was criticized that how would
he (e a(le to maintain /ood relations with arm& due
to his stance. The media made it look like that the
speech was ver& recent and the civil-militar& ties
were in dan/er (ecause of ,hawa%a #sif. #sif tried to
clear his stance (& statin/ that he a(horred the
martial law not the arm&.
ISHAQ DAR:
-sha. Gar* is the incum(ent Ainance Minister of
Pakistan and a senior senator. De is also the
Parliamentar& leader of PMLN in senate. Prior to that*
he served as an opposition leader in Senate. Gar is
known for his e9pertise in Inance and economics. De
helped Nawaz Sharif* in the past* to achieve
economic /oals in a ver& short period of time. Gar
held the oCce of Ministr& of 2ommerce from 7-
(ut was terminated after the militar& coup of 1.

appointed as the Ainance Minister. -n addition* he has
tenured as Girector of 5orld 0ank* #sian
Gevelopment 0ank and -slamic Gevelopment
0ank throu/hout his career. Gar is a stron/ supporter
of Priviatzation and has proposed privatization of
three ma%or state held corporations* P-#* PS4 and
Pakistan Steel Mills. De faced immense criticism on

worked tirelessl& to improve the socio-economic

KHAWAJA SAAD RAFIQUE:
,hawa%a Saad <aI. is a PMLN politician and is
currentl& servin/ in the ca(inet of Nawaz Sharif in
capacit& of Minister for <ailwa&s. De was elected
from N# 1:$ Lahore and was accused of ri//in/ the
elections there in the pollin/ stations. The
constituenc& of N#1:$ was included (& PT- in J
constituencies where the& demanded a recount.
-nstead of providin/ accounta(ilit&* the PMLN
/overnment especiall& <aI.ue (randed the demand
of PT- as unconstitutional. <aI.ue is known for his
rhetoric used a/ainst the P#T chief Tahir ul >adri.
<aI.ue has worked with various ministers to improve
the conditions of railwa&s and and introduced various
compensator& measures when the services were not
upto the re.uired standard. Arom a ver& &oun/ a/e

has contested elections from 13 with PMLN. #fter

a/e and was the President of a Student @nion. De
helped the /overnment to e9ecute Pakistan Lision
:":$ Pro/ramme. De was also a part of the four
mem(er /overnment ne/otiatin/ team with PT-. The
minister is of view that the sit ins sta/ed (& PT-HP#T
are counterproductive and are sa(ota/in/ the
/overnment)s plan to fulIl the promises made to its
people.
PERVAIZ RASHEED:
Pervaiz <asheed* is a senator from Pun%a( and a
senior part& mem(er of PMLN. De currentl& holds the
oCce of Ministr& of -nformation* Mass Media
0roadcastin/ and National Derita/e. De was included
in the /overnment team for ne/otiatin/ with PT-. The
minister faced immense criticism when a demanded
(an on +M4* after the channel (roadcasted #amir
Mir)s accusations on -S- for attempted murder of
Damid Mir* was dela&ed. This led to the PT- chief
claimin/ tat +M4 was involved in ri//in/ elections
with PMLN. The Minister cleared (& sa&in/ that all
such claims were made since PT- was (ecomin/
/reed& for power and PMLN had no links with
channel.
SHAHBAZ SHARIF:
Shah(az Sharif is the incum(ent 2M of Pun%a( and
deput& in chief of PMLN. De has served twice (efore
as the 2M of Pun%a(. The lon/est servin/ 2M has a
reputation of e9ecutin/ pro%ects and is known for
developin/ Lahore. Arom anti-den/ue movement to
constructin/ -T industr&* Sheh(az has pla&ed an
inte/ral part and it was his performance that made
PMLN come in /overnment. Dowever* the massacre
that occurred in Model Town incident :"1J caused
PMLN /overnment a lot of trou(le* and infact (ecame
the reason of P#T sit-ins who demanded resi/nation
of (oth 2M Pun%a( and PM. De represents PP-1$ in
Provincial #ssem(l& of Pun%a(. Shah(az faced
criticism from the PT- chief since he accompanied the
PM on all his forei/n visits. The PT- chief stated that
this creates a sense of ine.ualit& amon/ all other
