Concert Program Notes
- OBLIVION ( A. Piazzolla)
Surely you have recognized that the first piece we played was Oblivion, we wanted
to start with music by Piazzolla and not just the most famous tango musician in the
world, but also a composer by notable international soloists, chamber ensembles and
orchestras symphony. We may have taken to the tango to its limits, as far-
aesthetically speaking-that many tango men were not able to accompany or to
understand
- LIBERTANGO ( A. Piazzolla)
It is one of Piazzolla's works that best illustrates the extremely complex relationship
between composer and tango, a mixture of love, contempt, freedom, admiration and
resentment. It is the struggle against mediocrity innovative artist and conservatism.
And it reflected in the lyrics of the song:
Mi libertad es tango que baila en diez mil puertos
y es rock, malambo y salmo y es pera y flamenco.
Mi Libertango es libre, poeta y callejero,
tan viejo como el mundo, tan simple como un credo.
- EL CHOCLO ( A. Villoldo)
The name of this tango is choclo, it is a "criollo" tango with music by ngel Villoldo,
released in 1903 and whose music was published in 1905. One of the most popular
tangos, second only to La Cumparsita. It is said that came to be taken by the Argentine
national anthem.
Tango melody, characteristic of the so-called Old Guard "of tango, was probably
composed around 1898. Its premiere was November 3, 1903 by Jos Luis Roncallo
orchestra, who had transcribed the score, in El Americano, a restaurant category in
downtown Buenos Aires. To avoid conflicts with the owner of the premises at a time
when the tango was associated with marginal classes, Roncallo presented the work as a
"danza criolla. "
- VERANO PORTEO ( A. Piazzolla)
First work that will form the invaluable tangos the Four Seasons.
To summarize all this section we would like to say that the work of Piazzolla is a work
that is characterized by its aesthetic power and its unique style, almost alone. It is unlike
any other music: to hear we are forced to question the roots and say, "This is Piazzolla.
Strikes and fascinates. This is a 'language' that has achieved a steadfast style. Disparate
elements and rebels (jazz, classical music, exploring timbre) produces a unique work
under the dramatic pulse of tango.
- DANZA FANTASTICA N3 ORGIA ( J.Turina)
Fantastic Dances were written in 1919 inspired the novel "orgy", Jose Ms, author of
stories of that environment Seville which almost always remained close Turina. They
are dedicated to his wife. In the three movements (Exaltation, Dreaming and Orgy) are
included as indications for the performer, sentences of this novel. Of these three the
most spectacular dances Orgy, whose Andalusian farruca brilliant melodic vocals
reminiscent of flamenco. The piano version, more intimate, is the original, but in a very
short time (December 30, 1919) Turina gave them a symphony, more colorful, with
which they have spread. In this version were released on 13 February 1920, Bartolom
Prez Casas Madrid lead the Philharmonic. The fame of these dances has led to its
adaptation to other media, motivating + percussion group to make a transcript of it to
this concert.
- SUITE ESPAOLA (I. Albniz)
- Asturias
- Cdiz
- Crdoba
- Mallorca
- Sevilla
In the second half of the concert will hear parts of the Spanish repertoire of S.XIX-XX.
The link to join this great journey of Latin America to Spain, will be the composer Isaac
Albniz, restless composer did not hesitate to run away from home in his youth and
travel to Latin American soil, where they absorbed the culture flourishing at the time.
But Paris, the city would become his home, and where there would be composed works
such as the Spanish Suite, The Songs of Spain and Iberia, all loaded with flavor and
color of Spain longed.
This afternoon we heard the Spanish Suite, published in 1888 and initially consisted
only three moves. When re-released after the death of the composer, the editor added
five more times, posthumously, all evoke different aspects of the various regions and
landscapes of Spain. We hear: Asturias, Cadiz, Cordoba, Mallorca and Seville.
- LA BODA DE LUIS ALONSO ( J. Gimnez)
We could not ignore the Spanish genre of XIX-XX Century "Zarzuela. "
We wanted to play one of the most famous of all intermediate repertoire. Intermediate
Wedding Luis Alonso de Jernimo Jimnez. This operetta premiered in 1987 with lyrics
by Javier Burgos at the Teatro Real de Madrid, set in the Gateway district, the city of
Cadiz. But it is what has transpired through to today becoming independent piece, full
of rich and colorful orchestral and is an excellent letter introducing the "musician of
grace" rating applied to the master Vives Gimnez.
