Minimum Requirements The following minimum requirements will ensure a smooth and responsive SolarWinds experience: Component Requirements CPU 3GHz or faster, dual processors with dual cores RAM 4GB or more Hard Drive Space 20GB or more, preferably in a RAID 1 configuration for reliability. Operating System Windows 2008 Server (32- or 64-bit) Windows 2003 Server R2, SP1 and higher (32- or 64-bit) IIS must be installed, running in 32-bit mode. SolarWinds recommends that SolarWinds NPM administrators have local administrator privileges to ensure f ull f unctionality of local SolarWinds NPM tools. Accounts limited to use of the web console do not require administrator privileges. Web Server Microsoft IIS version 6.0 and later. DNS specifications require that hostnames be composed of alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), the minus sign (-), and periods (.). Underscore characters (_) are not allowed. For more information, see RFC 952. .NET Framework 3.5 or later SNMP Trap Services Windows operating system management and monitoring tools component
Notes: By default, SolarWinds NTA listens for flow data on port 2055 (UDP). Ensure that port 2055 is open for UDP communication on any SolarWinds NTA collector. TCP port 17777 open both to send and to receive traffic between SolarWinds NPM and any other SolarWinds modules. Flow Requirements SolarWinds NTA supports the following flow technologies: Cisco devices using NetFlow version 5 or 9 Network devices using IPFIX Network devices using J-Flow Network devices using sFlow version 5 Note: SolarWinds NTA only recognizes NetFlow version 9 templates that include all fields included in the NetFlow version 5 template. 2 Bandwidth Analyzer Pack Quick Start NetFlow, IPFIX J-Flow, and sFlow Requirements Most Flow-enabled devices use a set of static templates to which exported flows conform. SolarWinds NTA ignores any NetFlow, IPFIX, J-Flow, or sFlow packets that do not include the following field types and field values. Field Type Field Type Number Description IN_BYTES 1 Ingress bytes counter IN_PKTS 2 Ingress packets counter PROTOCOL 4 Layer 4 protocol SRC_TOS 5 Type of Service byte setting on ingress interface L4_SRC_PORT 7 Source TCP/UDP port IPV4_SRC_ADDR 8 Source IP address INPUT_SNMP 10 SNMP ingress interface index L4_DST_PORT 11 Destination TCP/UDP port IPV4_DST_ADDR 12 Destination IP address OUTPUT_SNMP 14 SNMP egress interface index
Notes: Only one interface index is absolutely required, but both interface indexes (INPUT_SNMP and OUTPUT_SNMP) should be provided to view accurate statistics for both ingress and egress flows. If SolarWinds states that SolarWinds NTA supports Flow monitoring for a device, at least one of the templates the device exports satisfies these requirements. Installing SolarWinds NPM & SolarWinds NTA Install the SolarWinds packages in the following order: 1. SolarWinds NPM refer to the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Evaluation Guide. 2. SolarWinds NTA refer to the SolarWinds Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer Evaluation Guide.
Notes: During the installation of SolarWinds NPM, you will be asked to create a database account; ensure you remember the credentials to this account. Check the config files of your NetFlow devices and ensure they are exporting NetFlow to your SolarWinds NPM server. The default SolarWinds NPM Web Console ID is Admin and the password is blank.
