System: Orthorhombic Colour: Rose-red
Lustre: Vitreous Hardness: 3 - 4
Member of: Xonotlite Group
Name: From Russian "zoria", meaning "the rosy radiance of the sky at dawn", alluding to its colour.
The structure of Zorite contains double dreier chains of (SiO4) tetrahedra, which are linked by Ti cations into a three-dimensional framework.
A topologically identical framework is found in the structures of Haineaultite (the Ca-analogue of Zorite), Chivruaiite, and the synthetic Zorite analogue ETS-4 (Men'shikov
et al., 2006).
