Abortion is the term given for when a pregnancy is terminated but, who has the

right to decide over the life of an unborn child? In the year 2007 22% of the Worlds
pregnancies terminated in abortions and only 22% of countries allow this practice. When
discussing controversial topics such as the legalization of abortion in Mexico, several
points should be taken into account such as health issues, human rights, ethics and religion.
This essay will develop my stand against abortion by exploring these points and therefore it
will show why abortion shouldnt be legalized in Mexico.
An abortion is a massive invasion to a womans body, the woman deliberately
decides she wants to get rid of a living being growing inside of her so, what does this
represent to her health? The effects of abortions are evident both physically and mentally.
On the first stages of pregnancy, the main method (medication) has a small percentage of
serious risks. After that, other types of methods (such as suction) can cause from serious
bleeding to infertility as well as life-long side-effects. Studies have revealed the
psychological effects of abortions on women; they have shown that almost 50% of women
who had an abortion before turning 25 had suffered from depression. In Mexico, abortions
represent one of the five causes of death of pregnant women. On the whole, abortion has
short-term and long-term physical and psychological effects for women which cause
depression, anxiety, infertility and even death which is why to protect womens health,
abortion should not be allowed; something that causes death and mental sicknesses should
not be approved. 12345

no say or cant express in any way but this doesnt mean that the living being has no rights.

being; human rights are universal and the same for everyone. When a human (as little as
it may be) starts to grow, it is a human life consequently it deserves to be treated with
respect and dignity. In brief, to take life from a human life clearly does not represent a
treatment of dignity and respect which is why if we take into account the human rights of
the future baby, abortion should not be legalized.
Finally, it is important to consider Ethics around the subject of legalization of
abortion in Mexico; it is especially important to consider certain criteria of goodness.
Criteria of ethics say that to achieve goodness, unnecessary suffering should be avoided;
similarly, Aristotle said that we should seek to develop full human potential. These criteria
have a single goal: to help society function properly. Abortion produces unnecessary
suffering from both the mother (due to physical and psychological effects) and the future
baby. Abortion does not seek full human potential because it doesnt even allow the baby
to grow to be someone. Since these principles of goodness do not match with what
abortions cause, it means that abortion does not help society to function properly and in the
best way. A practice that doesnt allow our society to function properly, should not be
legalized.
In Mexico, there are many states that forbid abortion but have some exceptions
(such as big risks to the mothers life). In conclusion, abortions have negative effects on a
womans health. Abortion goes against the human rights of the baby and against ethical
criteria that seek goodness. For all of that abortions should not be legalized in Mexico but
instead other measures should be employed to avoid abortions such as sexual education in
the young population and birth control campaigns. Taking into account measures like
these, will save hundreds lives of both mothers and babies.
