We need four turkeys donated for the Thanksgiving banquet. If you can help, let Brad know today!
THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
Let me begin by saying, Words cannot convey how much your cards, phone calls and encouragement have meant to us during the past week. We appreciate your kindness and covet your daily prayers in the weeks to come. As Ryland & Jessica Newman begin their newly married lives together, they would also covet your prayers for their baby boy, Kasen Newman. Many of you have asked this week how things are going so I will quickly say that he is progressing daily as he breathes more on his own without the ventilator, and he has gained a pound the first week in the hospital. The hole in his heart has become much smaller and they hope it eventually closes without need of surgery. Thanks again for all your prayers. If you would like to send Jessica and Ryland a note of encouragement, I would be happy to give you their address.
Allow me to say thank you for those who helped clean up after our fun evening together Wednesday night. I hope you feel you got your $2 worth at the potato bar. I know I did! It was great hearing your laughter and seeing the smiles around the room. All the preparation for the night was truly worth it!
My Wednesday night elective, Respectable Sins, will meet this week in the fellowship hall beginning at 6:15. Remember to come prepared to discuss chapters 11 & 12 of your book.
Dont forget to mark your calendar for our annual Thanksgiving celebration. This year it begins at 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by Tom Shelton in concert. We will take up a love offering to offset the expenses for the meal and for our entertainment. As an extra bonus during the weekend, David Eubanks will speak at our morning worship.
We are hoping that four turkeys will be donated for our Thanksgiving dinner celebration (sorry ladies that does not mean your husbands). If you can help, please let me know today. We will announce our menu soon. Please begin signing up today as the clipboards are being passed during worship.
Finally, I do want to say again just how much I have appreciated Dave being on staff here at Fifth since my return to Lancaster. Although he will not be on staff any longer after the end of the year, I am glad he is gracious enough to still serve in some capacity as a volunteer here at the church.
In His Service,
Brad BITS FROM BRO. DAVE
NOTE TO MY FRI ENDS: In last weeks Messenger, I shared with you my plan for retiring (again) at the end of this year. In this note, I want to reemphasize our commitment to the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ. My commitment began, in 1982, when I was called as Senior Minister. After my first retirement, in 2002, we stayed in touch, and assisted in various ways, until I was asked to return, in 2007, as Minister to Seniors. (This constitutes an association of just over 33 years.) This congregation has been very kind to me over the years and I have a deep appreciation and love for it. It is my intention to support and give back whatever I am able. I pray that each of you reading this will do the same.
WEDNESDAY BI BLE STUDY: We are continuing our study titled A Brief Survey of Old Testament History. This week we will begin examining the era of the prophets and kings. We meet at 10:00AM and 6:30 PM. The same material is covered in each session. Why not join us?
FUTURE EVENTS: Just a reminder that our next event is our annual Thanksgiving dinner on November 16. Our friend, Tom Shelton, will be providing entertainment. On that morning, Dr. David Eubanks will be our special guest in my Sunday School class and will be speaking at our morning worship service. (Take note all you Senior Saints in the Smokies fans!) . On December 11, we are planning a special catered lunch for our Keenagers and friends. Watch for a sign-up sheet to be posted in November.
FI NAL THOUGHT: A taxpayer is a person who did not have to pass a test to work for the government.

After the summer of 1964, life for Jocie Brooke will never be the same.
Life-changing events rarely happen in quiet Hollyhill, Kentucky, and when they do, they are few and far between. But for young Jocie Brooke and her family, they happen all at once during the humid summer of 1964. Though on the surface things are just fine, it seems like everyone in Jocie's life has something they're not saying, something they're hiding from her--and from themselves. As Jocie digs into her family's past, she stirs up a whirlwind of discoveries. Will she find the answers everyone so desperately needs? Or will her questions lead to truths better left hidden?
Combining unforgettable characters, true-to-life struggles, and the perfect dose of humor and nostalgia, this riveting story from bestselling author Ann Gabhart explores the very essence of new life and love.

THE FOUNDATION SHELTERS 800 W. Sixth Ave. Lancaster, OH 43130 www.hungryhomeless.org
The Foundation Shelters are a Gospel-driven, tax- exempt, non-profit corporation. They can share their beliefs in the Christian Faith because they receive no funding from any government source. They depend upon charitable gifts churches, businesses, and individuals. We support them with a $150.00 donation each month.
Their mission is to provide meaningful relief to the suffering part of our community and given an opportunity to the community to serve the community.
The Foundation was started in 1990 as the vision of Ed and Carol Clum. Gary, Eds son, felt compelled to Jesus parable of the Fest to have a banquet for needy people in Lancaster. Seeing the need of shelter for the homeless, Ed opened the Foundation Shelters in 1995. Gary took over the Dinners in 2006. (When you serve the least of these you are serving Jesus Matthew 25:31-46.)
They can house 25 residents, but recently have had as many as 40. Most residents are men but the facility offers a totally separated location for women and children. Most of men with long-term social and health problems.
A bed is supplied in a warm, safe environment free of cost. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided free of charge at the Foundation Dinners, located two blocks from the Shelter 1000 W. Fifth Ave. (653-3233)
Another Homeless Story My life started from a broken family. My Mother passed away when I was 6 years old and my Father left. My brother and I were adopted by our Grandparents. My Mother was addicted to morphine when I was born and Im pretty sure that is why when I was hurt in an accident at work and was put on pain pills I became addicted right away. I ended up going to prison and lost everything I had, wife, job, and family were all gone. It has been a struggle for me ever since. I am still homeless and have health problems but so far Im drug free and trying to re- establish a relationship with my children. It has been a hard battle but I know it is one I can win. I have God in my life now to help me and I do not know what I would have done without the help of The Foundation Shelters and Dinners. . Charles

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace- based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Church Health and Biblical Balance Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)
Global Evangelism We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon- Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Fellowship and Ministry After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.
Discipleship We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR PURPOSE
WE EXIST TO
Exalt Gods Greatness; Evangelize Gods Work Equip Gods People Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ
OUR MISSION To Love God and Love People! How Can I Respond Today? At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card. You and I Were Never Meant to Hold Anything Back" Luke 12 Brad Seevers preaching
