Safety and Health
3.1 General Precautions
i) Be calm and relaxed, while working in the Lab
ii) Keep the work area clean and neat.
iii) Be sure about the locations of fire extinguishers and first aid kits in the
lab.
3.2 Precautions to be taken when preparing a circuit
a) Use only isolated power sources(either isolated power supplies or AC
power through isolation power transformers).Using Isolated oscilloscope
prevent the possibilities risk of electricity shock and damaging the
equipment.

3.3 Precautions to be taken before powering the circuit.
a) Check for all the connections of the circuits and scope connection before
powering the circuit,to avoid shorting or any ground looping that may lead
to electrical shocks or damage of equipments.
b) Check if you have connected load at the output.
c) Double-check your wiring and circuit connections. It is good idea to use a
point-to-point wiring diagram to review whn making this checks.

3.4 Precautions while switching ON the circuit.

4.0 Theory
The DC Motor is the simplest of the motors discussed here.It works on
the exactly the same principle discussed above. There are two terminals, and when
you apply direct current to one terminal and ground the other, the motor spins in
one direction. When you apply current to the other terminal and ground the first
terminal, the motor spins in the opposite direction.By switching the polarity of the
terminals, you reverse the direction of the motor.By varying the current supplied to
the motor, you vary the speed of the motor.
Procedures:
1. 1.Connect the circuit as shown in figure 4a.

2. 2. Supply a 12.6 V A.C voltage to the circuit.
3. 3.Adjust the 100K Pot so that the motor starts to rotate.
4. Set the motor speed to an average value.
5. Set oscilloscope to dual mode to observe 2 waveforms at the same
time. While ketching the waveform, adjust 100K Pot to see the effect on the
waveform when the motor is rotationg at minimum and maximum speed
a) At point 1(5 volt per division)and 2 (2 volt per division)
b) At point 2(2 volt per division)and 3 (2 volt per division)
c) At point 3(2 volt per division)and 4 (5 volt per division)
d) At point 4(5 volt per division)and 5 (0.5 volt per division)
