Global Chalice Lighting for November 2014

ICUU announces the 134th in its monthly global chalice lighting readings. Congregations worldwide are
invited to use the reading for at least one worship service in the designated month, identifying it as the
ICUU Global Chalice Lighting for that month. This Global Chalice Lighting was originally submitted by the
General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches (UK) and is for use in November 2014.

ENGLISH:
We light our chalice flame to start our worship period. The light of the flame represents our
unending search for truth; the heat of the flame represents the warmth of love; the beauty of the
lighted chalice represents our religious quest to bring the best into our lives and our world.

Just as the chalice candle/oil is consumed in its work of producing its light and heat, so too we
will only be able to bring truth and love and beauty into our lives and into our world by
transforming our beings into sacred flamesa sacrifice of self that is fed by the spirit of God
acting through our lives and our relationships.

May our sharings and reflections today help to make our inner lights burn more brightly,
bringing the light of justice to our darkened world.

Rydym yn cynneu'r fflam ar ddechrau ein gwasanaeth. Mae golau'r fflam yn arwydd o'n
hymchwil am y gwirionnedd; mae gwres y fflam yn arwydd o gynhesrwydd cariad; mae
prydferthwch goleuni'r fflam yn arwydd o'n hymchwil grefyddol i ddwyn y gorau i'n bywydau ac

Wir entznden die Flamme dieses Leuchters um den Zyklus unserer Feierstunden zu beginnen.
Das Licht der Flamme steht fr unsere nicht enden wollende Suche nach Wahrheit; ihr Feuer fr
die Wrme der Liebe, die Schnheit des leuchtenden Flammenkelches fr unser religises
Bemhen, das Beste in unser eigenes Leben und in die Welt zu bringen.

Ebenso wie die Kerze sich durch das Entstehen von Licht und Wrme verzehrt, so werden auch
wir nur dann in der Lage sein Wahrheit und Liebe in unser Leben und in die Welt zu tragen,
wenn wir uns selbst in heilige Flammen verwandeln - in Gestalt unserer Hingabe, die durch das
Gttliche, das durch unser Leben und unser Miteinander wirksam wird, inspiriert ist.

Mge das, was wir heute mit einander teilten und gemeinsam bedachten uns dazu verhelfen,
unser inneres Licht heller scheinen zu lassen und so das Licht der Gerechtigkeit in unsere dunkel
gewordene Welt zu tragen.

En allumant cette flamme nous marquons le dbut de nos clbrations.
Cette flamme symbolise notre inlassable recherche de la vrit ;
Le feu de la flamme voque en nous la chaleur de lamour ;
La beaut de cette flamme nous rappelle limportance que prend notre qute spirituelle afin dy
apporter le meilleur dans nos vies et celles des autres.

Tout comme cette bougie/son huile en se consumant fait son travail de lumire et de chaleur,
nous aussi nous apporterons la flamme de notre tre, la vrit, lamour et la beaut dans nos vies
et dans le monde en transformant notre vie intrieure et en sacrifiant notre tre afin de
reconnatre la richesse de notre propre lumire. Notre tre est une flamme nourrie par lesprit de
Dieu agissant en nous et autour de nous.

Aujourdhui, puissent notre partage et nos rflexions faire briller davantage notre lumire
intrieure et permettre dtendre notre monde en tnbres un peu plus de justice et de clart.

Prendemos la llama del cliz para iniciar nuestro perodo de celebracin. La luz de la llama
representa nuestra interminable bsqueda de la verdad; el calor de la llama representa la calidez
del amor; la belleza del cliz encendido representa nuestra aspiracin religiosa de dar lo mejor a
nuestras vidas y a nuestro mundo.

Como la mecha y el aceite son consumidos para producir luz y calor, as solo podremos llevar la
verdad, el amor y la belleza a nuestras vidas y al mundo si transformamos nuestros seres en
llamas sagradas: un sacrificio del ego alimentado por el espritu de Dios que acta a travs de
nuestras vidas y relaciones.

Que lo que compartamos y reflexionemos hoy nos ayude a que nuestra luz interior brille con ms
intensidad, trayendo la luz de la justicia a un mundo en sombras.
