Chapitre Saint-Laurent in brief

Affiliations

Chapitre Saint-Laurent is a Quebec-based non-profit


professional scientific organization affiliated with two
international societies: the Society for Risk Analysis
(SRA) and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and
Chemistry (SETAC). It brings together experts and
stakeholders in the fields of biology, Chemistry,
toxicology,
ecotoxicology,
health,
environmental
sciences and engineering and risk assessment.

Society for Risk Analysis (SRA)

Founded in November 1996, Chapitre Saint-Laurent has


more than one hundred members researchers,
students, consultants and managers from government
circles, industry, academia and consulting services
concerned about environmental toxicology, public health
and environmental risk assessment. The Chapitre SaintLaurent offers a unique opportunity and welcoming
forum for multidisciplinary exchanges on these dynamic
and constantly evolving fields of expertise and scientific
activity.
The strength and vitality of any association is based on
the active participation of its members. Your contribution
is essential!

The Society for Risk Analysis provides a forum for all


those interested in this field. Risk analysis covers
aspects
related
to
risk
assessment
and
characterization as well as the perception,
communication and management of risk. It considers
threats to human health and the environment
associated with physical, chemical and biological
agents and a variety of human activities and natural
events. This multidisciplinary and international society
supports the creation and development of new
assessment methods and training in this field of
activity.

Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry


(SETAC)
The Society of Environmental Toxicology and
Chemistry is an independent, non-profit, international
professional scientific organization. Committed to
balancing the interests of academia, industry and
government, it promotes equal representation from
these three sectors and a multidisciplinary approach
for solving environmental problems. It provides a forum
for multidisciplinary exchange of individuals interested
in the study of environmental issues, education,
research and development, as well as the
management and conservation of natural resources.

Who can become a member?

The annual meeting of Chapitre Saint-Laurent is a


forum for exchange and discussion open to all
stakeholders involved in environmental sciences and
engineering. It provides a forum of choice to discuss
various aspects of environmental toxicology,
chemistry
and
engineering,
ecotoxicology,
environmental health as well as the assessment and
management of risk. The meeting covers a wide
range of topics:

Every year, Chapitre Saint-Laurent contributes to the


training of the new generation of environmental
scientists in Quebec. Four Student Presentation
awards are given at the annual meeting.

The annual meeting of the Chapitre is open to all


stakeholders in the fields of environmental chemistry,
engineering
and
toxicology,
ecotoxicology,
environmental health, as well as those involved in risk
analysis and management. All attendees of the
annual meeting become members of Chapitre StLaurent. Our members are students, researchers,
consultants or stakeholders from academia, nongovernmental organizations as well as from the
public and private sectors.

In addition, two Excellence awards of 2000 $ are


awarded each year: one for a student at the Masters
level and the other for a student at the PhD level. The
competition is open for applications in the spring.
