Stage 1 Identify Desired Results

ISTE Standards:
1. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments
incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in
context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and
resources to promote student learning and creativity

Understandings
Students will understand that:

Using current content, ActivInspire can be used to create relevant learning

experiences that link new information to the student's prior knowledge
Using current content, ActivInspire can be used to create an interactive lesson to
activate the student's interest and curiosity
Using current content, ActivInspire can be used to create digital interactive
assessments

Related Misconceptions:

Activinspire is a tool used only as a replacement for the white board

Activinspire cannot be used as a tool to make content interactive and interesting
Activinspire cannot be used as a tool to connect content standards and classroom
activities
Activinspire cannot be used as an assessment tool

Essential Questions

Overarching Questions:

Topical Questions:

What are the Big Ideas that I want

my learners to understand from
content/standards?

Why is it important to link new

information to learners prior
knowledge?
Can making content interactive
increase student interest and
curiosity?
Why should assessment for
learning come first?

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge

Skills

Participants will know:

Participants will be able to:

How to use ActivInspire as a tool

to instruct and assess learning
How to use web 2.0 tools to
embed in ActivInspire

Use current content and

ActivInspire to create relevant
learning experiences that link new
information to the student's prior
knowledge
Use current content and
ActivInspire to create an
interactive lesson to activate the
student's interest and curiosity
Use current content and
ActivInspire to create a digital
interactive assessment

Stage 2 - Evidence
Performance Task(s)
The participants have already received a workshop on the use of basic ActivInspire tools. I
want to incorporate Understanding by Design processes along with the use of smart
boards/ActivInspire. Many teachers of students with intellectual disabilities are receiving
smart boards/ActivInspire and using them as glorified projectors. If the smart boards are
used appropriately they can be a vital tool to facilitate and inspire student learning and
creativity, and to explore real-world issues and solve authentic problems using digital tools
and resources.
Henry County requires all Intellectual Disabled Programs to use the Unique Curriculum
with students in the program. The content provided in the Unique Curriculum gives
students in the Intellectual Disabled setting access to the Georgia Performance Standards.
Every month the Unique curriculum provides a topic, content, along with access to
standards that will be covered.
There will be three performance tasks. The goal is to Design and develop digital age
learning experiences and assessments. You will design, develop, and evaluate authentic
learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to
maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes
identified in the Standards. Be sure that your activities bring the Big Ideas to students in
an interactive format to increase interest and curiosity.
1. Interactive Assessment
Using current content, use ActivInspire to create a digital interactive
assessment
2. Interactive Lesson to link or activate prior knowledge
Using current content, use ActivInspire to create a relevant learning
experiences that links new information to the student's prior knowledge
3. Interactive Instructional Activity
Using current content, use ActivInspire to create an interactive lesson to
activate the student's interest and curiosity
Standards and Criteria for Success:

Activities focus on the Big Ideas from content standards

Activities are interactive
Activities link prior knowledge
Includes interactive assessments

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences

3 hour workshop
I would like to guide the participants through the following process:

ActivInspire Review of basic tools

Review 2.0 tools that can be embedded into ActiIspire
View an introduction video on using ActivInspire to support Content Curriculum
Pre-Assessment Interactive Whiteboard Proficiency Rubric
Examine the Unique monthly topic and standards and determine the big idea and
goals for the unit found on the Unique Website
Consider what evidence will determine if the students have attained the goals and
understand the big idea and create an assessment using the smart
board/ActivInspire to assess if desired learning has been achieved.
Consider what knowledge and/or skill the student will need in order to perform and
achieve the goals for the unit. Create an activity/lesson using smart
board/ActivInspire to present knowledge and skills to link or activate prior
knowledge.
Consider what knowledge and/or skill the student will need in order to perform and
achieve the goals for the unit and create an instructional activity/lesson using smart
board/ActivInspire to equip students with the needed knowledge and skill to achieve
goals for unit.
Participant will share performance tasks with peers on interactive board. Peers will
evaluate each task using a performance rubric.
Review Promethean Planet Resource
Review curated resources
Workshop Evaluation Survey

Assessment
Pre-Assessment Interactive Whiteboard Proficiency Rubric
Participant will create 3 performance tasks and self-assess using a checklist.

Interactive Assessment
Interactive Lesson to link or activate prior knowledge
Interactive Instructional Activity

Participant will share performance tasks with peers on interactive board.

Peers will evaluate each task using a performance rubric.
Peers/Instructor will provide suggestions and feedback.
Post Assessment - Assessment rubric will be emailed a month after workshop for
participants to evaluate progress.
Evaluation
Workshop Evaluation Survey Participants will complete a survey that will serve as
an evaluation of the workshop instructor and activities.
