Donna Reid (native Tennessean) and PJ Leatherland (born in England)
both previously had careers in the Broadcast Industry. In 1989, their
respective employers’ companies exhibited at a Trade
Show in Montreaux, Switzerland. Mutual friends
introduced them and “nature took its course”.
After 3 months into their relationship, PJ…
realizing a long distance romance was
destined to fail… took a mission to convince
Donna that they should open their own company.
The business would be based in Nashville;
thus, a chance for them to be together. At first,
Donna was reluctant about the gamble of
owning her own company. However, PJ was
persistent and finally won by telling Donna that
if their proposed new business did not work out they could
just get “a shanty on the beach”. During the
years that followed, their inside joke remained
that they could always get their “shanty”.
After 14 years of them owning an
international post production
film equipment company…
it was time to move on to their next venture.
Being seafood lovers and with their hometown
of Hermitage not having a fresh seafood restaurant located in the
area, it appeared to Donna & PJ that their destiny had been decided.
Thus, the birth of Shanti’s on December 19th, 2003.
After 3 years at its original location on Andrew Jackson Parkway in
Hermitage… the business had grown to need a larger space to better
accommodate their valued clientele. This lead to the
current location, which opened on February 3rd, 2007.
Although they may not have the beach,
Donna & PJ do have their… “Shanti”.
