Abstract
The Savannah Chatam School District is seeking a grant to revolutionize each and every
classroom by integrating smart boards and providing instructors with the training needed
in order to be tech savvy leaders of education. The objective is that by the end of the
training teachers will be able to transform their lesson plans so that they utilize the
interactive, multimedia, and web 2.0 capabilities of the Smartboard . Research has found
smart boards to be essential tools in the modern classroom for their dynamic capabilities
and their effectiveness at catering to different learning and teaching styles. One smart
board converges the capabilities of numerous teaching tools. Funding in the amount of
_____ is requested for the purchase of the hardware and the training that will be needed
in order to familiarize staff with the device and accompanying software.
Proposal Text
(This section consists of three subsections: Demonstrated need, Goals and Objectives,
Plan of Operation.)
Demonstrated need: (A demonstrated need for the professional development you are
proposing must be supported through the collection of data through surveys, interviews,
or focus groups. Describe the process used to collect the data, summarize the data, and
describe the professional development need revealed through data analysis. Raw data
must be included in an appendix of the proposal.)
Need: At a Savannah Chatham county school a survey was given about types of training
that teachers would need in order to incorporate more technology into the classroom.
After talking with a technology professional for the district, she provided a list of the
most requested trainings and information dealing with certain technologies. Once we had
a list of technology trainings, then we talked with elementary classroom teachers and
collecting data to input into a teacher survey. See Appendix A for survey details.
After analyzing the data, we discovered that there is an immediate need for technology
trainings dealing with interactive whiteboards, IPads, and IPods. There were 19 out of 26
(73%) elementary classroom teachers that requested an immediate need for this particular
type of technology training. As we compared the data from the teacher survey, we
concluded that training on interactive whiteboards, IPads, and IPods would greatly
benefit teachers and students in the classroom environment.
Professional Development Framework
In order to meet the demands of 21st century learners in this digital age, it is vital that
educators are trained in technologies that will help advance the skills, knowledge, and
critical thinking of their students. Technology is an effective tool that can be utilized
within all classrooms by all teachers, both novice and seasoned teachers, to enhance
students learning. Student motivation to learn will increase as teachers employ

strategies using technology to engage and inspire young minds. The addition of smart
boards, Ipads, and Ipods along with the needed training in use of these devices will be
effective in accomplishing increased student learning. The proposed professional
development program described in this section will be completed within the meeting of
three goals and their corresponding objectives discovered in the needs assessment.
Goal 1: Incorporate smart boards into the school district classrooms in each school of
the school district.
Goal 2: Teachers will be provided with training and guidance on how to integrate smart
boards, IPads, and Ipods into their daily routines.
Objectives:
1st: Purchase smart boards for each school of the district.
2nd: Provide training for teachers on how to use the smart boards effectively and
create lesson plans utilizing smart boards.
3rd: Provide teacher training for the effective classroom use of IPads in student
instruction.
4th: Provide BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) teacher training specifically for
Ipods as educational learning devices.
