What is your fitness age?
Compared to your chronological age, is it possible to
have a fitness age and if so,
does it matter?
The research coming from
a new study of lifespan and
fitness found that a persons
fitness age is a better predictor of longevity than
chronological age. Fitness
age is determined primarily
by a measure of cardiovascular endurance.
Researchers at the University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, have studied fitness and how it relates
to wellness for many years
and they are who have developed this concept of fitness
age using a measurement of
cardiovascular endurance.
Cardiovascular endurance
is measured as VO2 (volumes of oxygen) max.
VO2max is the measurement
of your bodys ability to take
in and utilize oxygen. The
difference in oxygen levels
between the air you inhale
and the air you exhale indicates how much oxygen your
body is using for energy,
your VO2. Your VO2max
indicates your current cardiovascular endurance.
Do you know the maximum milliliters of oxygen
you consume in a minute?
Probably not. You can have
this measured professionally
at some medical facilities and
training centers. The test typically involves breathing into

my two sons, Chris and

Chris went hunting with

I was the respiratory therapist at the hospital there, the

was able to take a couple of
days off. I took Chris along,
parked the car at place
where I had permission to
hunt and away we went.
We hadnt been hiking
long when we found fresh
elk tracks. Chris was fascinated by the tracks and how
you could tell which way the
elk were going by looking at
them. He spent a few minutes pressing his boot tracks
into the snow along side the
trail and walking a couple of
steps, then looking at them
to see what they looked like.
We followed the elk tracks

being quiet, until he got
