SCARY BUT INFORMATIVE VISITATION

It was last Wednesday, October 15, 2014, when the class went to Medical Auditorium to
visit and see the cadavers situated on the 4th floor of the building. Before entering the room, we
were asked to wear our masks, lab gowns and rubber gloves. Upon entering the room, our
professors started to unveil one of the cadavers and led a prayer. After that, Dr. Hapan, our
professor, started discussing each cut section of the cadaver including the internal organs. At
first I was scared to look at the cadaver because Im afraid it might move suddenly, but then I
got to conquer my fear and looked at it and even touched and explored its parts.
The second cadaver was a girl and it seemed like its lungs were black which indicates
that she might be a smoker and I noticed that her hair and nails were still growing and the skin
was already hardening. We also touched and explored its parts as stated by our professors.
While exploring the parts of the cadaver, I was proud of myself because I was able to
label most of the parts shown because of the very helpful and effective practical exams that
weve had in Physiology Anatomy. I was happy because it meant that I learned a lot and I was
able to apply the knowledge I got and remember the parts I memorized for so many hours or
days.
Outside the room, there were also cadavers soaked in formalin but the difference of the
cadavers outside the room from those which are inside the room is that the cadavers located
outside the room have their parts cut into different sections- sagittal, transverse, and
longitudinal and also the body parts were pinned in order for us to identify its parts. We were
able to identify the parts familiar to us since we already tackled about those things especially
skeletal, muscular, and nervous system. We were able to identify the parts of the brain, upper
limbs, lower limbs, etc. which was a great sign that we really learned a lot and that out
professors are great teachers.
Besides that, there were also preserved fetuses and infants with inborn or congenital
defects like cleft palate, conjoined twins, and the like. I felt sorry especially for the fetuses
because they never got a chance to experience life and see the beauty of the world.
It was an amazing experience for us, especially for me who never looked at a dead
persons body. I was glad I was able to conquer that vulnerability of mine. I still cannot believe I
touched a cadaver and even explored its parts. Through this activity, I was able to measure the
knowledge I have about Physiology Anatomy and now I can say that this course has helped me
a lot to know and understand the different systems of the body and identify its parts.
