surface is 500C. Determine the quantity of heat flux per meter length of steam pipe and the layer contact
temperatures.

coefficient between the insulating surface and air is 25 W/mK, find the critical thickness of insulation.
16) The flow rates of hot and cold water streams running through a parallel flow heat exchanger are 0.2 kg/s
and 0.5 kg/s respectively. The inlet temperatures on the hot and cold sides are 75C and 25C
respectively. The exit temperature of hot water is 45C. If the individual heat transfer coefficients on both
sides are 650 W/m2C, calculate the area of the heat exchanger.
17) In a counter flow heat exchanger, the product of specific heat and mass flow rate is same for hot and cold
fluids. If the NTU is equal to 0.5, calculate the effectiveness of the heat exchanger.
