Project Title:

Place: Jure, Sindhupalanchowk.

Date of Conduction: 14th oct.-21st oct.,2014.
What we did?
We went to the proposed site to carryout various activities as listed in the
LFA. We stayed at the site for 7days and performed the following activities so
as to achieve our targeted objectives
GPS survey
Abney level survey
Distance Measurement
Volume measurement
Landslide mapping with rough sketch
Information collection about the impact area
Soil and Rock Sample collection
Debris sample collection
Strike and Dip measurement of the rock outcrop
Geophysical observation

Discharge measurement
Seepage observation
Visit to the affected HPPs.
River bed slope measurement U/S and D/S
River width measurement U/S and D/S
Side slopes measurement on either side of the river banks U/S
Visual observation and local people consultation

How we did?
Based upon our knowledge and consultation with the supervisor we did
various tasks using different methodologies like
direct observations
Use of various engineering survey techniques and instruments
interview with the local people.

Why we did?
Ideas on stability of structure so formed and probable risk analysis

The constancy of the natural dam can be inspected from which we can conclude
whether the structure is safe or not. This helps in deciding if this structure can be
further utilized or if there is need for preventive measures in the nearby
communities.
Questions about dam stability on the community peoples mind will be answered.
Hence, the study will also be very much helpful to relieve the mental tension in
the nearby community because of the stability of dam.
In long term if the reservoir can be used for any purposes like power production,
recreation and navigation the affected as well as nearby community and
government will be greatly benefitted.

It will also be helpful to initiate new approach of viewing positive aspects of

natural disasters as Prakritik bippatti, samajik sampatti

Exposure of hidden potential:

Prakirtik hani, banau sampadako khani.

The study helps to predict the volume of water blocked by the landslide.
The possibility of development of hydropower, navigation, tourism etc can be
well explored.
Our study will helps to predict the probable damage that can be caused by the
measured discharge

Skills Development

Through our visit we will be gaining the experience on various survey techniques
and survey instruments. Also we will know about impact analysis of disasters like
landslide and flood. Also the knowledge of stability analysis of dam will be
understood practically.
Also, we will share the knowledge and skills to community people that we have
gained from our university.

Note: Include some pictures which explain your activity during the
field visit.
