Q. Why give financial support to Eastminster?

1. To thank God for the blessings and bounty he provides. The story of Scripture is the story of Gods relentless, life-giving love: a love that ultimately leads to
Christ becoming flesh and dying to redeem us from our sin. All we are and all we
have comes from God. Giving our first-fruits(Exodus 23 & elsewhere), the first of
what comes to us, is a way of saying thank you to our Lord.
2. To remind ourselves that God is God and we are not. We are prone to wander, prone to think life is all about us. Its not. Giving significantly for our Lords
work provides a tangible, regular reminder of what life is really about: God. You and
I are merely passing through this life which makes it a perfect time to begin getting to
know our Maker!
3. To join in our Lords ongoing work in the world through Eastminsters
mission efforts. Because Jesus Christ loves us, we ought to love others. Together,
the Eastminster family will give over $600,000 beyond the local church to spread the
Gospel in word and deed in Columbia and around the world in 2014. What a privilege it is to join in Gods ongoing work in the world!
4. To grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Just as regular exercise improves our
physical fitness, so regular practice of worship, prayer, study, service and giving
strengthens our spiritual fitness. And, because we live in a culture where money
dictates value, meaning the more it costs the more valuable it is, Scripture encourages
us to give at least a tenth (10%) of what comes to us back to God.
5. To fund the Christian education, nurture, and care ministries of this
church. Scripture tells us that God works through the Body of Christ, the church.
From baptism to death this church seeks to walk with, equip, enable and encourage
people as followers of Jesus Christ. Teaching the faith to our children, to our childrens children, and even to those who are far away is our privilege and charge.
6. To fulfill a promise made when joining the church. When you joined Eastminster, you were asked, Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, share
in its worship and ministry through your prayers and gifts, your study and service,
and so fulfill your calling to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? Acts 2 describes the church
being strengthened because everyone gave as they were able.

Associate Pastor Nominating Committee

On Sunday, November 9, during the Congregational meeting, the following members were
elected to begin the search for an Associate Pastor for Young Adults and Evangelism and
Membership. They are: Peyton Bryant, Louise Cruea, Jim Evatt, Caleb Gaston, Boo Griffin
(chair), Laura Irick, Wane ONeal, and Mary Jacqueline ONeal. Please be in prayer for this
committee as they begin their search for the person God is calling to fill this position.

Thornwell Offering On November 23

Each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving Eastminster receives a special offering for
the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, SC. On Sunday, November 23, we will again
be receiving this offering. For decades children from Georgia, South Carolina, and elsewhere
have found a haven of hope at Thornwell.

Circle of Giving - Saturday, December 13

On Saturday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Thompson Hall, Eastminster
will host the Cooperative Ministrys Christmas Program. We need volunteers (teens &
adults) to help set up on December 12, from 4:00 p.m. until, and volunteers to help the children shop, wrap gifts and do small crafts. Two shifts are available on December 13: 8:45 until
11:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please contact Laura Irick at lmirick85@gmail.com
if you would like to help.
We also need donations of gift bags (all sizes), tissue paper, large shopping bags, and
unwrapped new gifts in the $10 range. Please email Laura for gift suggestions! Gifts should
be delivered to the Circle of Giving boxes in the CLC lobby or the CE building lobby no later
than Friday, December 12th.

2014 Advent Retreat December 5 - 7, Register Now!!!

We invite you to join us this year at Eastminsters annual Advent Retreat. Well discover
some fresh ways to dare to share the love of Christ with many around us: with family members, with co-workers, and with our friends from down the street. If this piques your interest, pick up a brochure at church, download a brochure from the E-News or check us out

CHAMPS Math Tutor Needed

If you are good in math and would like to tutor a sixth grade student on Wednesday afternoons, CHAMPS has an opportunity for you. Contact Doretha Evans devans@eastminsterpres.org or 803-256-1654 to volunteer or with questions.

Operation Christmas Child

This is a great project for everyone to get involved in! Last week to participate as National
pick up week for completed boxes is November 17-24. Please return filled shoe boxes to the
church by November 23! This year the J.O.Y. Sunday school class is sponsoring the collection.

Your time, talent, and treasure at work in Gods Kingdom

In addition to providing financial support for various campus ministries at
USC, Eastminster also sends care packages during winter and spring exams
to our college students, wherever they attend.

Ron Aiken joins by reaffirmation of faith. Ron is the

high school sports director at WLTX, and joins with
his fiance Leesa Benggio. He lives on Sessions Road in
Elgin.

Leesa Benggio joins by transfer of letter from Spring

Valley Presbyterian. She is the director at the South
Carolina State Library, and joins with her fianc Ron
Aiken. Leesa lives on Sessions Road in Elgin with her
children Jacob, Levi and Kailee.
Trent and Darcy Earhardt join, Trent by reaffirmation of faith and Darcy by profession of faith. They live
on Roundtop Road. Trent is a manager with Cynosure
and Darcy is in property management with the Arnold
Companies. They are looking forward to worshipping
God in community with others.
Brittany Halligan joins by reaffirmation of faith.
Brittany lives on Atascadero Drive and is a graduate assistant at Winthrop University. She joins her husband,
Ben and other members of the extended Halligan family
in membership here.

children, Crosland, Barrett, Wilson, and Thomas. David is an underwriter with SC Farm Bureau and Ashley
is the executive director at the March of Dimes.

Thomas and Carolyn Stoddard join by reaffirmation of faith. Thomas is with Labcorp, and Carolyn
works at the Hammond School. They live on Kensington Place. They are looking forward to growing
in their faith and living richer Christian lives through
fellowship and opportunities to live out Gods word.

Next First Step Class Begins December 7

Saint Lawrence Place Holiday Shop & Christmas Party!

We are looking for volunteers to help! This year the Saint Lawrence Place
Holiday Shop and Christmas party will be hosted at Eastminster with First Calvary
Baptist Church helping here. We have 14 families to donate gifts for. We will also
need volunteers to put together necessity baskets and to help out the day of the
event, Monday, December 8. Please contact Susan Owen for more information on
how you can get involved in this ministry. This annual event is a wonderful way
to give back over the holidays and is lots of fun! For more information: contact

Update for November 16, 2014

A Concert of Praise and Thanksgiving

On Sunday, November 23, musicians from Eastminster

and Shandon Presbyterian Churches will present a concert
in the Eastminster Sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. The concert is
open to the public at no charge. Invite your friends to come
with you.

Womens Shelter Souper

You are cordially invited to the 33rd Annual Thanksgiving Souper, Thursday, November 20, 5:30 7:30 p.m. in Thompson Hall. Tickets are $2 for adults
and $1 for children, and may be obtained at the Womens Shelter or at the door.
Come enjoy the fellowship and a simple meal of a bowl of Chick-Fil-A soup and
crackers!

Christmas Memorials and Honoraria

The Flower Guild is accepting memorials and honoraria to cover the cost
of decorating the sanctuary and other areas of the church with live wreaths,
greenery and poinsettias for Christmas. Please enclose the wording you would
like to have printed in the Christmas bulletins with a check for $20.00 made out
to Eastminster Flower Guild for each listing. Checks and enclosed information
should be mailed to the church or placed in the Flower Guild box in the workroom. The deadline is Friday, December 5. Go ahead, send in your check today!

Socks In A Box

Once again, Mary Curtis Twitty and Kent Liggitt will be collecting adult
white socks for the Socks in a Box collection (November 2 - February 13).
These socks will be distributed to those in need. Look for boxes at the main
entrances.

Family Promise at Eastminster

Family Promise is a new ministry that will serve homeless families. This
ministry will have an informational meeting in the parlor on Sunday, November
16, following both worship services. There are many volunteer opportunities,
and all are family-friendly! Check the EPC website for a listing of volunteer
opportunities. Please contact Elizabeth Barber (ebarber77@gmail.com) or Lucy
