THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

As I write this article, I have to say this has been a

challenging week. One might say its been rather
upsetting. We got word that our grandson would need to
have surgery to repair the hole in his heart. We were told
if it was not on Wednesday then it would be Friday. Well
its now Wednesday and the only thing for certain is that
we still dont know if the surgery will be today or not. We
are just being told to keep our phones on and be ready
because it could happen anytime. Apparently, they
cannot be any more definitive at this time because they
are at the mercy of the pediatric cardiologists schedule.
He travels all over the state doing these procedures. I just
wish they understood we live over three hours away and
would like to be there before it starts.

KEENAGERS LUNCH: On Thursday,

December 11, we will be having a special
catered lunch, in our fellowship hall, for
our KeenAgers. This will be our final
event for 2014 and my final event as
Associate Minister (Seniors). Josh Czich
will present a brief demonstration on selfdefense for seniors, we will reminisce a
bit about the past seven years and make a
decision about some funds on hand. All
you have to bring is yourself, and a friend,
if you choose. Lunch will be served at
12:01 pm. I do need you to make
reservations for this lunch. A sign-up
sheet is posted.

If that is not bad enough, I also received a phone call that

my mother had fallen Tuesday night and they were
concerned she broke her wrist. She did! She fell while
working outside in the yard but she was able to get up
and walk into the house crying.
If that wasn't bad enough, as she was crying, my father
came running in to see what had happened. You know
him! He's the guy that just had four stents put into his
"widow-maker artery" less than two weeks ago. He's the
same guy who cannot lift more than ten pounds right
now. In all the chaos, the stress got to Dad and he started
having chest pains. You guessed it, he had to go to the
emergency room, and now he is spending the night for
observation. He will find out in the morning if he will have
another heart catheterization because he has 80%
blockage in another artery.
Can I scream yet that "enough is enough?" My Grandson,
Mother and Father all needed help in less than a 24 hour
day.
Sometimes life seems "way out of control." Sometimes
life makes you want to scream "enough." Sometimes you
wish you could do something to fix things and it would all
be better; but we can't! But God can make all things
better. When things go wrong, only God can make it right.
God is still in control.
Brad

WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY: Our

study of A Brief Survey Of Old
Testament History continues each week.
This week we will begin examining some
key events and personalities of the divided
kingdom. We meet at 10:00 AM and 6:30
PM. The same material is covered in each
session. Why not join us?
FINAL THOUGHT: Nothing is easier
than faultfinding: no talent, no self-denial,
no brains are required to get into the
grumbling business.

SPECIAL THANKSGIVING
OFFERING
The special Thanksgiving offering
is designated to repair the
church boiler. Any additional
funds above and beyond the cost
of the repair will be sent to the
West Africa Christian Mission
for their land purchase.

The Foundation Shelters are a Gospel-driven, taxexempt, non-profit corporation. They can share their
beliefs in the Christian Faith because they receive no
funding from any government source. They depend upon
charitable gifts churches, businesses, and individuals.
We support them with a $150.00 donation each month.
Their mission is to provide meaningful relief to the
suffering part of our community and to give an
opportunity for others to serve those less fortunate.
The Foundation was started in 1990 as the vision of Ed
and Carol Clum. Gary, Eds son, felt compelled to Jesus
parable of the Feast to have a banquet for needy people
in Lancaster. Seeing the need of shelter for the
homeless, Ed opened the Foundation Shelters in 1995.
Gary took over the Dinners in 2006. (When you serve
the least of these you are serving Jesus Matthew
25:31-46.)
They can house 25 residents, but recently have had as
many as 40. Most residents are men but the facility
offers a totally separate location for women and children.
Most are men with long-term social and health problems.
A bed is supplied in a warm, safe environment free of
cost. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided free of
charge at the Foundation Dinners, located two blocks
from the Shelter 1000 W. Fifth Ave. (653-3233)
Another Homeless Story
My life started from a broken family. My Mother passed
away when I was 6 years old and my Father left. My
brother and I were adopted by our Grandparents. My
Mother was addicted to morphine when I was born and
Im pretty sure that is why when I was hurt in an accident
at work and was put on pain pills I became addicted right
away. I ended up going to prison and lost everything I
had, wife, job, and family were all gone. It has been a
struggle for me ever since. I am still homeless and have
health problems but so far Im drug free and trying to reestablish a relationship with my children. It has been a
hard battle but I know it is one I can win. I have God in
my life now to help me and I do not know what I would
have done without the help of The Foundation Shelters
and Dinners. . Charles

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
