Article:
The effect of educational technologies and material support science and
technology on the teaching skills of problem solving 5th grade primary school
student written by Ouz Serin, Bulut Serin Nergz and Gizem Saygili, focuses
on the effect that new technologies and material science have in primary.
First, they argue, through numerous appointments, that the primary goal is to
shape the personality (Gokce, 2003). In order to provide children with the
objectives, valves and symbols of the society is necessary to develop a system
of general and consensual education (Snmez, 1994). In this context, education
starts, for example, the idea of educating people in different areas and
behaviors that are expected by society.
In addition, the article explains that from years of primary school the person has
to be a good troubleshooter, this could explain how to display certain behaviors
that provide a balance with the environment. That is, solving problems means to
comfort problems, this means to seek solutions. A person will be able to have
certain behaviors when they understand that they should react in certain
situations.
In real life, the process of dealing with problems is given through cognitive and
emotional processes, known as behavioral reactions. We know that people with
ease to face the drawbacks are able to think independently and creatively and
are sure of themselves. Also, it was determined that they have more initiative in
relationships, have a more positive perception of the personality and working
methods are academically more appropriate.
It is believed that the ability to solve problems is brought up during the
childhood, and therefore primary education should be improved, to ensure that
students learn successfully. Learning is a process inside the person, in which
the student explains and builds the information. Educational environments
should be designed in order that each student can actively interact with the

environment and can carry a learning life each useful. Therefore for effective
education, teaching and learning activities must be organized according to the
modern technology. At this point, the authors cite various opinions of different
authors in favor of this thought.
The technologies used as a device provide meaningful thinkings (Jonassen,
1997). Technologies help to support learning and make it easier (Deryakulu,
1991). Complicated information given to students is made easier by the help of
technology (Isman, 1998). The use of technology increases the interest and
motivation of students, while helping recall prior knowledge of related topics.
Educational technologies support students in active learning and to improve
their problem solving skills (Jonassen, 1999; oliver, 2000; Shu-Sheng, 2001).
New

technologies

provide

educational

interactive

environments

and

multidisciplinary knowledge (Tezci i Grol, 2001).

The authors explain in particular the need for new technologies in those areas
that have many concepts and scientific principles. Especially in conceptual and
abstract classes, for example, science and technology, use of technology and
educational materials are crucial, because the beginning of this, besides the
knowledge is the prior experience.
So, education cannot be considered independent from systems and
technological differences which make up the structure of the society. Since one
of the goals of education is to raise individuals according to what is required for
the society; raising individuals who can adapt to the knowledge is essential.
Below and to finish the article, authors conduct an investigation to confirm the
positive effect of new technologies and material support in the primary. This
experimental research is done in primary school Buca Buca, Izmir. 80 students
are selected from two primary classes of the academic year 2006-2007. They
are divided in two groups randomly, one experimental and the other one a
control group. A test is done for both groups and a score is obtained for each
one. Then the subject is explained to the 80 students. 40 students learn the
subject material with technological material, but the other 40 learn whit out
material. A test is done again and a new score is obtained

With this experimental investigation is obtained that the experimental group

(learning with technological material) punctuate more positively in the post-test
than the control group. Moreover, P shows that there is a positive association
between learning with technological material and punctuate more positively in
the test.
As a conclusion, the investigation confirms all mentioned before and the authors
can end successfully affirming that learning with technology and didactic
material ensures a better assimilation and compression the set of topics.
I selected this article because I think it speaks to something very important in
today's educational system. I think that this is an investigation that should
encourage many schools to change the way of teaching, in order to improve
performance and student readiness. Moreover, and finally, I think that I'm
studying college degree that often rests on technological methods, and this
work has helped me to be more aware of the positive influence that these
methods have in my learning.
