THE LONG-TERM SCHOLARSHIPS
Purpose
The Danish Government Scholarships under the Cultural Agreements are aimed at highly qualified exchange
students wishing to immerse themselves in studies of the Danish language and culture or other fields of
study related to Denmark, such as: design, architecture, environmental studies, and other related fields.
Selection Criteria for Long-Term Study Scholarships
In order to ensure that the most qualified candidates are nominated for a scholarship under the Cultural
Agreements, the Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation has defined a set of criteria for the
assessment of applicants.
Please notice, that applicants do not need to meet all criteria, but applicants who meet several criteria will
have a better standing in the selection process than applicants who do not.
Please note that only masters and PhD-students can apply for scholarships. However, for studies in Danish
language and literature, bachelor's level students can apply if they have studied Danish language for two
years prior to when they wish to start their stay in Denmark.
In the selection process, the Danish host institutions will give priority to candidates:
Who motivate their choice of a specific research programme or field of study through its relation to Danish
language, culture or other Danish areas of expertise. Successful applicants will describe the Danish
dimension in their choice of studies or research when applying in fields such as: design, music,
architecture, welfare, environmental studies, etc.
Who refer to an internationally acclaimed lecturer at the desired Danish host institution with whom they
would like to study.
Who have contacted the desired Danish host university and received an invitation from a lecturer to
conduct studies or research there.
Who are recommended by a professor or lecturer.
Who study at a partner university or institution of the desired Danish host university.
Please note you are not eligible for a scholarship if:
You are not currently enrolled in, or conducting research at, an institution of higher education in a country
participating in the Cultural Agreements programme.
You are already enrolled or planning to enroll in a full degree, joint degree, or double degree programme
in Denmark. Full, joint, and double degree students are not considered exchange students and are
ineligible for scholarships.
You intend to pursue studies at a bachelors level during your stay in Denmark in fields other than Danish
language and literature.
You intend to pursue studies at a post-doctorate level during your stay in Denmark.
You plan to conduct studies or research on a part-time, rather than a full-time, basis.

THE DANISH SUMMER LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS (Group 1 for Switzerland)

Students can apply for a scholarship under the Cultural Agreements programme to attend a Danish Summer
Language Course. The summer language courses in Danish are open to bachelor, Master's and Ph.D.
students.
IMPORTANT! Students can only apply to ONE COURSE ONLY. You will however be able to select a second
choice, if case you cannot be placed in the course that you picked as your first choice. Students who apply to
several places will be not be able to select the course themselves, but will be placed by the Agency to the
best of its judgement.
Students will NOT be awarded ECTS-points for attending a summer language course. These language
courses are not ECTS awarding courses.
How are candidates selected for a Danish Summer Languague Scholarship?
The selection of candidates is done according to the following criteria:
The applicant is either a bachelor, Master or Ph.D. student.
The applicant is not already enrolled at a higher education institution in Denmark.
The applicant is nominated by a lecturer who teaches Danish abroad. If you would like to be recommended
by a lecturer, be sure to contact the lecturer before you apply. The recomendation letter should be sent
together with the application, or as otherwise specified by the course organiser.
The applicant studies Danish or Scandinavian languages and literature.
While the successful candidate does not necessarily need to meet all criteria, an applicant who meets
several criteria will have a better standing in the selection process than an applicant who does not.
The course organisers reserves the right to consider the distribution of nationalities in the final selection of
candidates for the summer language courses. Previous experience has shown that overrepresentation of
any nationality on the individual course is not desirable.
How to apply
Applicants should apply directly to the course organiser. The application deadline for the Danish Summer
Language Courses in 2014 is March 1, 2014.
For more information about the summer language courses in Denmark, please consult the menu on the left
