PRE- ASSESMENT ACTIVITIES: Students have learnt and can use the simple present tense.
Therefore, it is accepted that students are ready to review them and they start learning simple
present tense.

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRENT UNIT: Our unit in the lesson is built around activities
taking place in the class. Thus, it would be a good idea to remember students of the other
present tense.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES: At the end of lesson, teacher expects that students are able
to use the present tense in a meaningful way.

CRITERION LEVEL : At least, 75% of the students will be able to utilize from simple
present tense correctly.

T- Good. Today, we wil learn present tense and we will do activities about present tense now.
But first, Let’s remember what we did a few weeks ago.

T- Look ( takes a piece of chalk and walks towards the board) I teach you english. Now, look
at these pictures and tell me therir jobs.

S- He is a doctor.

ELICIT THE RULE

T- Good. Now, who can tell me what the verbs are in the questions on the board? What is the
verb ‘be’ in the first questions?
S-am

T- Good. What comes after ‘am’?


S- student

T- What else can we say instead of ‘student’?


S-doctor

T- Yes…. What else?


S-soldier

T- Good. So in questions, after the question word we have be a verb BE and a subject. If the
the subject is ‘you’ the verb be is are ; if the subject is he/she/it/your friend/etc.’ The verb be
is ‘is’.

T- Yes, ‘do’ is a verb and ‘play’ is another verb.

T- Good, now, tell me this: Why do we use this structure?


S-We use what we do everyday.

T- Yes, We use the simple present tense to say what we do everyday.

T- Now, we have some drills. I will give you a sentence and a cue. You will change the
sentences. Listen to my example first;

E – INCOMPLETE DIALOGUE

T – Now, We have another exercise: Look at the bottom of papers I gave you. There is a
dialogue between customer and sailor but customer’s lines are not in place and in order. They
are given in incorrect order below the dialogue. I want you to write the dialogue again by
putting customer’s lines in correct order. I will do the first one. I will choose volunteers
among you and I will want you to do role playing.

SUMMARY

T- Yes friends today, we have learned the present tense in a meticulous way. We have
understood where and when to use the simple present tense. Thanks to activities you have got
the rules of present tense. But without repeating these rules you may forget them. So; you
should revise your new knowledge in your house gradually.
