Arc Flash

Electric Arc

This report mainly focuses on the different

electrical safety equipment; insulated tools,
measuring devices, suits and rubber
goods, fall into this category.

1.

2.

Before working on an electrical related job,

always perform a detailed inspection of the
equipments.
Use the right tools for the right job.

Flash and thermal

protective clothing is used
for the protection against
flames, heat, and the heat
hazards of arc-flash.

Flame Resistance (FR) the property of a clothing

to resist the heat or the flame when exposed to a
heat source.
Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV) is the
rating of a thermal protective clothing that limits
the degree of an injury to a second-degree-burn.
Energy Break-Through (EBT) is the limit of a
flame resistant material to become brittle when
exposed to very high temperatures.

Natural fibers like

cotton and wool.
Synthetic fibers like
nylon, polyester and
rayon.

They are non-flame resistant treated with a

flame retardant chemical to be flameresistant.
Inherently flame-resistant materials such as
PBI, Kermel, and Nomex.

Work clothing used for routine day-to-day

electrical safety may be employed as secondary
flash protection. The clothing should meet the
following minimum requirements:
1. Long sleeves to provide full arm protection.
2. Sufficient weight for both thermal and
mechanical protection.

Hard hat is a kind of helmet that is

use to protect the wearer from
falling objects, impacts on other
objects and electric shock. Hard
hats have suspension inside to allow
the impact of an object to be less
likely transmitted directly to the
skull.

Safety glasses,
goggles and face
shields reduces the
threat from plasma
clouds, UV light
intensity and molten
metal created by an
electric arc.

This type of
equipment is made up
of insulated materials
that have tools fitted
at one end designed to
make the workers
perform their job from
a safe distance.

These are tools with

covered with
electrical insulation
which prevents
shock when working
with energized
conductors.

Barrier tape is a continuous

length of abrasion-resistant
tape, this tape commonly has
signs or warnings that
indicate the nature of hazard
and that only authorized
personnel can be allowed to
work on the area.

Involves measuring for zero voltage

of the energized live parts, it is done
by checking if a certain area in the
workplace has been de-energized.
Safety voltage measurements have
two kinds; proximity testers and
contact testers.

Safety grounding is applied

when circuits that have been
successfully locked and
tagged can be accidentally
energized while personnel are
working within the range of
the exposed conductors.

A GFCI monitors the amount

of current flowing from hot
to neutral. If there is
any imbalance, it trips the
circuit.
this is a GFCI (ground fault
circuit interrupter) safety
outlet.

Safety one-line diagrams are used in electric

power systems for a variety of purposes including
engineering, planning, short circuit analysis,
andmost importantsafety. The safety
electrical one-line diagram (SEOLD) provides a
roadmap for the electric power system.
