1. A vessel departed from point "A" at 1206 with a counter reading of 616729 and arrived at point "B"
with a counter reading of 731929 at 1148 the following day. This vessel is equipped with a 630cm
diameter propeller, with a pitch of 610cm. The observed distance of 404.16 nautical miles was
covered at an observed speed of 16.85 knots. What should be the apparent slip for this trip?
A. 1.04%
B. 1.29%
C. -6.65%
D. -11.04%
Briefly Justify Your Answer
2. A continuous watertight bulkhead on a Vessel may also be a/an _____________.
A. structural bulkhead
B. exterior bulkhead
C. centerline bulkhead
D. joiner bulkhead
Briefly Justify Your Answer
3. Regarding Vessel construction, Partitions in the living quarters are generally __________.
A. Structural bulkheads
B. watertight
C. non-structural bulkheads
D. continuous bulkheads
Briefly Justify Your Answer
4. Vertical partitions providing strength and compartmentation on a Vessel are called _____________.
A. decks
B. bulkheads
C. joiner work
D. walls
Briefly Justify Your Answer
5. Bulkheads forming part of the tanks on a Vessel are stiffened to withstand _______________.
A. deck loads from above
B. dynamic forces while afloat
C. hydrostatic pressure
D. overpressurization
Briefly Justify Your Answer

6. The decks of a Vessel are supported by transverse members called _______________.

A. trusses
B. deck longitudinals
C. deck beams
D. web frames
Briefly Justify Your Answer
7. On a Vessel, the keel is the primary strength member of the lower hull form and is laid in which
direction?
A. Transverse
B. Diagonal
C. Longitudinal
D. Vertical
Briefly Justify Your Answer
8. A ship of 12,400 tonne displacement has a length of 125m, 16.5m beam and floats at a draught of
7.5m. The propeller has a face pitch ratio of 0.75. With the propeller turning at 100 rev/min the ship
travels at 12 knots with a real slip of 30%. Calculate:(a) apparent slip, (b) pitch of the propeller and (c) diameter of the propeller.
Taylor Wake fraction WT = 0.5 Cb 0.05
9. The wetted surface of a ship of 6,096 tonne displacement is 2323m 2. Find the area of wetted surface
of a similar ship of 2032 tonne displacement. The speed of the 6096 tonne ship was 15 knot.
Calculate the skin frictional resistance of the 2032 tonne ship in Newtons at:(a) its -corresponding speed, (b) a speed of 15 knot.
Skin frictional resistance Rf = 0.4786 SV1.83 Newton where S is the wetted surface and V the speed
in knot. The ships are assumed to be in sea water.
10. A ship of 5080 tonne displacement and KM = 6.4m is inclined in sea water by moving a mass of 5.0
tonne transversely through a distance of 14.6m. This caused a pendulum 6.lm long to be deflected
10.2cm. During the experiment a double bottom tank, 7.3m long 9.lm broad 1.22 m deep,
contained sea water to a depth of 0.61 m. Find the KG of the light ship if the only deadweight was the
water in the tank.
