worldwide in scope -An umbrella term that encompasses a wide range of social processes all of which
having to do with the increasing political, economic, and cultural interconnectedness.

2. The modern world system is a increasingly interconnected and interdependent set of political,
economic, and cultural systems that has emerged over five hundred years with the growth and spread
of European power, later American and Japanese.
3. What are the characteristics of core, peripheral and semi peripheral countries.
-Core countries are politically and economically dominant and they are culturally influential.
- Peripheral places that are poor and politically dominated by foreign armies and/or crippling foreign
debt are said to occupy.
-Semi-peripheral- Countries that are somewhere in the middle occupy
