21st century has launched a spectrum of global challenges
unlike any humankind has faced since our first ancestors appeared on this
magnificent planet. Many of these challenges are a consequence of our
growth and progress over the last century.
They include complex issues in areas such as energy, the environment, climate change, poverty, and healthcare. Every one of these issues will change
the way we do business as we build our future. Companies now require a
new kind of leaderone who is holistically trained and in tune with the parameters that affect these issues because they are increasingly connected to
business performance as well as the welfare of society.
Holistic educational strategies that stress a balance of body, mind and spirit

DUBROVNIK

6 COTRUGLI BUSINESS SCHOOL

To highlight our understanding of importance of innovation in todays

changing world but keep the traditional values, our school is named after a
man who wrote on this subject over 500 years ago.

Benedetto Cotrugli was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 1416. He was a

merchant by profession, a humanist by education, a scientist by vocation
and a diplomat by invitation. His book, The Art of Trade, written in 1458,
is credited with being the first to describe the principles and methods of
Double Entry Bookkeeping. More important for our story, he also described
principles of personal development and the importance of ethics in business. Principles which remain very much alive today.

LEADING PROFESORS

12 COTRUGLI BUSINESS SCHOOL

COTRUGLI Business School professors come from the worlds leading

Business Schools and institutions such as; ESCP-EAP, INCAE, Kellogg, MIT,
World Business Academy, XIME. Many of them happen to be the pioneers
of innovative business models of the 21st century. In addition to superior
teaching and mentoring, these accomplished professionals simultaneously
work as consultants for companies all over the world, giving them experience and valuable insight into the world of business today.

Efficient management is a talent for transformation. It is the ability to bring

out the best in others for the greater good of all. Leadership demands more
than the ability to motivate people and to focus their attention on a task. It
requires the capacity to reason rigorously to help define a problem and accurately determine the response. As a profession, management is uniquely
placed since it is driven by ideas. As a consequence, managers are on
a continual quest for new ideas, new interpretations, and new corporate
cures. Our objective at the COTRUGLI Business School is to put ideas into
practice, to educate for entrepreneurship and find ways to distinguish between an idea and an opportunity, to assess the real potential of an opportunity, and to understand how to structure and shape opportunities.

CREATING VALUE THROUGH ACTION PROJECTS

It can be a challenge to work in multicultural teams, but it is also among the
essential managerial skills. Participants are assigned to a group of five at the
beginning of the program, and they work together throughout the program.
Ensuring that the knowledge gained inside the classroom is not lost in practice,
it is of a crucial concern to advance the value creation for the participants
organization. Our project-based approach carefully balances reflection with
action, focused brainstorming with efficient decision making, and idea sharing
with collective on-the-job implementation. We equip participants with the tools
necessary to evaluate and implement the solutions they had elaborated to meet
organizational priorities. This provides real impact for the participants organization - one reaching well beyond the learning experience in the program.

The individual project is an important learning vehicle in COTRUGLI MBA

programs and represents a significant and genuine return on investment
to the participants organization.
Since the educational methodology is experiential and contributory in nature, the learning process is participant-centered. This approach implies
respect for competence, intelligence and autonomy of the program participants.
COTRUGLI Business School creates lifetime learners, and this can only be
accomplished by treating program participants with responsibility for their
learning, in other words teaching them how to learn by themselves.
As a part of their individual learning program participants determine the
nature of their individual project, and articulate their personal developmental goals. This gives them the opportunity to work individually on a project,
analyze and resolve complex business issues using business skills, frameworks, and tools acquired in the program.

PROJECTS ARE GENERALLY COMPRISED OF, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

CONSULTING WORK: focused quantitative and qualitative

analysis of a business issue, often for the participants actual company, and with emphasis on applicable, measurable results

BUSINESS PLANNING: either completing sections or an overview of a completed business plan suitable for investors (with full
market analysis, product definitions, developed marketing plan, operations design, and pro forma financials and projections)

RESEARCH (SUITABLE FOR PUBLICATION): focused, professional-quality research of an industry trend, business strategy,
revenue/trading strategy, or a products market that is suitable as a
case study eather for a graduate module or publication
