Click F5 (for DIST tab). Well get a list of different distributions. Look for BINM.
Click F1 (for NORM)
We get three tabs now: Npd, Ncd, and InvN. We will NEVER use Npd, only Ncd and InvN.
I. To calculate a probability (a regular problem)
II. To calculate the variable value, given the probability (an inverse problem)
On TI-83 or 84
Click 2nd
The first 3 choices all involve normal distribution. We NEVER use normalpdf(, only
normalcdf( and invNorm(.
I. To calculate a probability (a regular problem)
Choose normalcdf(
If you have a newer TI-84, there will be a dialog. Enter Lower, Upper, Mean,
Standard deviation
If you have a TI-83 or an older TI-84, you need to manually enter the numbers, in that
exact order, separated by the comma key: Lower , Upper , Mean , Standard
Deviation )
II. To calculate the variable value, given the probability (an inverse problem)
Choose invNorm(
Enter the AREA TO THE LEFT ONLY , Mean , Standard Deviation )
On StatCrunch
Open any homework problem, the StatCrunch button is on the right of the homework window.
When StatCrunch has fully loaded, click on STAT then Calculators then Normal.
Use either STANDARD for a one-tail calculation, or BETWEEN for a between calculation.
Fill in the values of the Mean and Standard Deviation.
I. To calculate a probability (a regular problem)
Enter the X value(s) and the correct inequality symbol.
Click COMPUTE.
II. To calculate the variable value, given the probability (an inverse problem)
Enter the probability value and the inequality, leaving an X value blank.
Note that in BETWEEN mode, you can only leave one X value blank, not both.
