The Relationship Between Wasting Seed and Prohibited Speech

Email

You can beat the Evil Inclination indirectly. Submitted by User Tuvia.
Indeed, wasting seed is prohibited by the Torah, and it is a serious prohibition. But it is
different than other negative commandments. The Torah tells about Er and Onan who
wasted (seed) on the ground, and that it was bad in G-ds eyes. (Genesis, XXXIX, 7-10)
Nowhere, however, in the Bible is it written, Thou shalt not waste seed. The reason is that
(if this sin becomes a habit) it is impossible for one to control himself by telling himself, No!
This Inclination cannot be battled directly, with self-control, by resisting. Through direct battle
with the Evil Inclination, a person will succeed for a limited period at best, but afterwards will
fail again and again. Actually, this Inclination feeds off Thought. Any thinking or mental
preoccupation with masturbation even about resisting the desire for it even about
stopping the sin even about feeling guilty stokes the fires of the Evil Inclination. 1
What, then, can be done? The answer is that this Evil Inclination can be beaten indirectly.
Control Prohibited Speech. Seed and Speech are both products of Thought. The less
ones thoughts are expressed in prohibited speech, the less ones thoughts will result in
wasted seed. The less freedom of speech, the less freedom in masturbation. Control of one
will build control of the other. So, study the Sefer Chofetz Chaim and acquire control over
gossip and slander. Control other types of prohibited speech also, such as vulgar language,
lying, hurting peoples feelings, etc.2
When the desire for masturbation comes, fight it with all your faculties. But if you fail,
G-d forbid, forget about it, just as you forget about what you ate for breakfast. The more
you think about it, the worse it will be. You need to develop a split personality about this
matter: After a failure you forget it as if its not important, but in every other way you oppose
it with all your ability.3

Other Useful Torah Lessons

Keep away from everything that arouses the Inclination for wasting seed:
pornography, sexual fantasy, a roaming eye whatever affects you that way. Concerning
these things, the Torah does4give an explicit negative commandment: Be on your guard
against anything bad. (Deuteronomy, XXIII,10) This teaches us that one should not think
thoughts in the day and come to an emission at night. (Avoda Zara, 20b)
We bless Hashem every day that he girds Israel with strength. The commentaries
explain that girds indicates the belt that separates the private parts below from the heart
and mind above and refers to the trait of Tzniyus (personal modesty). Tzniyus gives Israel
strength. It helps in many ways and includes a number of things. In general, it means being
sensitive about private matters. First of all, any part of the body normally covered by clothes
should be kept covered, except in a place where it is necessary and normal to be uncovered.
This is an effective fence for shmiras habris. It is also a great way to remind yourself that
youre never alone; Hashem is always there. Hashem tells us what is good: walking
modestly with your G-d. (Micah VI, 8) Personal Modesty reminds you that youre with your
G-d. Of course He is inside the persons clothes with him anyway; still, keeping ones body
covered is a reminder and an expression of the fact that he is not alone. This realization is
also good for shmiras habris. Tzniyus also means keeping away from unnecessary
involvement (talking, looking, reading, etc,) in private matters, such as sex or elimination,
especially in a dirty way.

We must be selective in our recreation and enjoyment. Certain kinds of fooling

around, like wildness, silliness, or pushing the boundaries of propriety, can lead to sexual
laxity. Rabbi Akiva tells us in Perkei Avos (III, 17), Joking and light-headedness get a person
used pattern a persons behavior to immorality.
Improvement must be step by step. Serving our Creator is like climbing a ladder.
One must climb a ladder step by step.5 The Talmud teaches, A person should always occupy
himself with Torah and Mitzvos (the commandments) even with an impure motivation; for a
pure motivation will grow out of an impure one. (Psachim, 50b) If one tries to skip steps on
a ladder, what will happen? He will fall! (Hashem loves each one of us more than we can
imagine. So, what do you think He would say to us when we go one step up the ladder? He
would encourage us and validate us as would all our friends who love us as we ourselves
would for our friends whom we love. He wouldnt say, So what? One lousy step! You should
have been higher on the ladder already anyhow! So, love and praise yourself for every step
up the ladder even a step up after failure. Tell yourself, Thats the way! Realize also that
the difference between one step on the ladder and another could be the difference between
throwing off G-ds yoke and accepting it to a degree. Quite a difference. Submitter)
Torah study weakens every Evil Inclination. G-d says, I created the Evil Inclination; I
created its antidote: Torah study. (Kidushin, 30b)
The study of Mussar (inspiration for self-improvement) leads to Fear of G-d. Fear is
the only character trait that can stand against the Evil Inclination, as Rabbi Chanina, the
priestly assistant, said, (Pirkei Avos, III, 2) Were it not for fear , people would eat each
other up alive!
Dont give up. Despair is the strongest tool the Evil Inclination has. 6

A tip submitted by user Palti

Having benefited form this tip myself I feel forced to pass it on to my 'extended family' of
Jews and Jewesses everywhere. Accordingly please mzakeh harabbim and publish this as a
new article on your site.
The computer and the internet are a potentially enormous cause of wasted time (lo aleinu).
When you think you think of the great person you can become and the great things you can
do elsewhere it's clear that one needs to be mightily strongly disciplined in how one uses
these items. In fact a very wise person will enlist help to strengthen themselves. And what
better help could there be than from a gadol. I suggest everyone should find a picture of a
gadol which they find inspiring and stick it prominently to their computer. One can even do
this to a laptop - I have done so.

We find a source for this tip in the Torah. Yosef a'h was saved from sinning with eishet
Potiphar by envisioning the image of his holy father. Perhaps similarly gedolim could be said
to be like spiritual 'fathers' - for the entire generation.
I myself use the picture of Rav Avraham Yitzhak HaKohen Kook z'l which is on this website. I
personally do not follow Rav Kook, however I find his face reminds me of his enormous Torah
learning (the Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin said the entire yeshiva was worthwhile just to produce
Rav Kook and the Hazon Ish z'l stood up for Rav Kook) and the warmth and gentility in his
face encourage me that I too can become great in Torah and those qualities also in fatherly
fashion guide me to use my time better, while the fire in his face gives me a holy zeal to
pursue mitzvot with all strength right now!! But of course one can use a photo of any true
gadol that inspires one to do good.
A quick practical way of carring out this tip is to print off a passport size photo of your chosen
gadol, cut out from the printed page a bit more than double the length of the photo, fold that
piece of paper in half so the photo is strengthened with a piece of paper behind it, get a roll
of very wide clear duct tape/sellotape, put the photo carefully onto the tape, flip the photo
carfully forward so that the other side is also covered with tape and so now the photo is
sealed with a tag at the end of tape covered with tape. Cut as required and attach to the
computer using tape on the tag.

In the doing Tshuva section, we look at some of the methods prescribed by kabbalists to
rectify the blemish of the brit. These are worth exploring at certain points in one's tshuva
process, but we have learned that for beginners, they can do more harm than good. For
most people, The greatest tool for fixing past mistakes and preventing future ones is simple:
be happy!
Depression over your mistakes is the Yetzer hara's most effective tool to push you down even
further. Failing and getting back up again is one of your most important jobs in the world. Did
you just make the same mistake? Again? You can't afford the luxury of wallowing in your
suffering. Get up and dance! Put on some wedding music and jump around like a total idiot!
That is the greatest way to reconnect to Hashem at this point, not by crying and fasting.
We plan to expand on this topic greatly in the future here at tikunhabrit.com. In the
meantime, the continuation of this article quotes Breslovers on the importance of happiness
in this world.
"Joy enhances the minds ability to comprehend" (Ibid A: 21).
It is a great mitzvah to be happy always. Strengthen yourself to push aside all depression
and sadness. Everyone has lots of problems and the nature of man is to be attracted to
sadness. To escape these difficulties, constantly bring joy into your life even if you have to
resort to silliness" (Likutei Moharan 2, 24).

I once asked a ninety-two year old about his amazingly good health and longevity. He
answered with a smile, "Simple - I never get angry and never harbor any negative feelings in
my heart or brain. Therefore, my heart is sound, my digestive system is normal, and thank
God, I don't know what a headache is." This particular individual had lived through poverty
and several wars.
I pressed the point a little bit: "How can a person be as happy with the bad experiences in
life as he can with the good?" Here's the reply I received:
Just remember three rules of thumb:
1. The Almighty runs the world;
2. The Almighty has infinite love for all of his creations;

3. The Almighty knows what's best for each one of us.

When you combine these three rules, you're left with no reason in the world to worry or to
be angry." Worry and the above three rules of thumb simply don't go together. Without
worry, you too will be feeling healthy and happy at age ninety-two.

Rabbi Nachman's
Secret of Happiness
by Rabbi Nasan Maimon
http://www.breslov.com/world/
Long ago, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov had recognized Simcha as the key to success in religion
and coming truly close to HaShem. In stressing the importance of Simcha he went so far as
saying that depression - the antithesis of Simcha - constitutes "the main bite of the serpent
(the Yetzer Harah)". How far should a person struggle to remain steadfast and avoid
depression? The lesson is best illustrated by the following story Rabbi Nachman told to his
disciples:
"But what is the antidote for the person who feels so heavy, so depressed, that no words of
encouragement or advice have any effect?"
There was once a poor man who earned a living digging clay and selling it. Once, while
digging clay, he discovered a precious stone which was obviously worth a great deal. Since
he had no idea of it's worth, he took it to an expert to tell him Its value. The expert
answered, "No one here will be able to afford such a stone. Go to London, the capital, and
there you will be able to sell it." The man was so poor that he could not afford to make the
journey. He sold everything he had, and went from house to house, collecting funds for the
trip. Finally he had enough to take him as far as the sea.
He then went to board a ship, but he did not have any money. He went to the ship's captain
and showed him the jewel. The captain immediately welcomed him aboard the ship with
great honor, assuming he was a very trustworthy person. He gave the poor man a special
first class cabin, and treated him like a wealthy personage. The poor man's cabin had a view
of the sea, and he sat there, constantly looking at the diamond and rejoicing. He was
especially particular to do this during his meals, since eating in good spirits is highly
beneficial for digestion. Then one day, he sat down to eat, with the diamond lying in front of
him on the table where he could enjoy it. Sifting there he dozed off. Meanwhile, the mess
boy came and cleared the table, shaking the tablecloth with it's crumbs and the diamond into
the sea. When he woke up and realized what had happened, he almost went mad with grief.
Besides, the captain was a ruthless man who would not hesitate to kill him for his fare.
Having no other choice, he continued to act happy, as if nothing had happened. The captain
would usually speak to him a few hours every day, and on this day, he put himself in good
spirits, so that the captain was not aware that anything was wrong. The captain said to him,
"I want to buy a large quantity of wheat and I will be able to Sell it in London for a huge
profit. But I am afraid that I will be accused of stealing from the king's treasury. Therefore, I
will arrange for the wheat to be bought in your name. I will pay you well for your trouble."
The poor man agreed. But as soon as they arrived in London the captain died. The entire
shipload of wheat was in the poor man's name and it was worth many times as much as the
diamond.
Rabbi Nachman concluded, "The diamond did not belong to the poor man, and the proof is
that he did not keep it. The wheat, however, did belong to him, and the proof is that he kept
it. But he got what he deserved only because he remained happy. *
It is up to each of us never to lose hope, and like the poor man in the story to whom
everything appeared lost, force oneself to be happy. Even a faked, ungenuine, happiness,
has the power to transform our situation and lead us to genuine joy.
But what is the antidote for the person who feels so heavy, so depressed, that no words of
encouragement or advise have any effect? To the one who feels he has reached the end of

his rope ... feeling so low and discouraged about himself that he can only term himself
"dead." Rabbi Nachman throws a lifeline: He stresses the statement of the Gemara that in
the future, Hashem will resurrect the entire body through a certain bone known as the "Luz".
Invisible to the eye, the Luz defies destruction. Placed on a stone and pounded repeatedly
with a sledgehammer, eventually the sledgehammer will break in two and the stone will
shatter into a thousand pieces - but the Luz will remain intact and unharmed. "Thus we see,"
says Rabbi Nachman, "that no matter how low a person has fallen, there exists an
indestructible part in him, that can form the basis for a new resurrection - a new life."
Focus on your Luz , advises Rabbi Nachman. Ask HaShem to help you find that indestructible
part, that essence of yourself that no sin or misfortune can erase. Bind yourself to it.
Concentrate on it. Allow it to gladden you and make you happy. Then, even if you find
yourself in the deepest, darkest pit without the slightest trace of hope or light - still, you will
always find your way out.
On a larger scale, the failure to find the "good point," is responsible for undermining all our
relationships-especially in marriage. All conflict arises from an inability to see the good in
another person. Fault-finders abound.
The key is, explains Rabbi Nachman, to zero in on the good point -- the pure, untarnishable,
indestructible, utterly redeeming feature that exists in each and every one of us, and use it
to rebuild our image of others and ourselves.
Ki Besimcha Taitzayhu - "through simcha you will go out," the posuk says. it is simcha that
shines a light for a person, releasing him from any type of exile.
In the zechus of this great Tzaddik who taught this lesson of Simcha may Hashem allow us to
exit from our present galus, with the coming of Moshiach and the rebuilding of the Bais
Hamikdash speedily in our days. Amain.
The fact that you have the interest shows that you have already started the battle.
There are a number of things that you need to know in order to succeed
The first is to fully acknowledge the situation.
Acknowledge that being Shomer Habris in thought, speech and action is the largest test that
a man is placed through in this world. Also acknowledge that although it is a very hard test it
is still very possible to win. There are many people that have been Shomer Habris in the past
and that are Shomer Habris today. I personally can give witness to many people today that
are Shomer Habris. Amongst them people that are single, people that are married, people
living in Tzfat and people going into Manhattan everyday, traveling on the subway system
and working in mixed offices.
Acknowledge that it is very possible to be Shomer Habris especially at the basic level of
refraining from doing physical sins. However to a person that is in a situation of impurity it
might seem like it is totally impossible to stop.
It will seem like it is beyond Human ability to be Shomer Habris. What this person must do is
two thing the first he must begin weakening his Yeter Hara, the second thing is he must start
building merit and protection.
Part 1
Weakining the Yeter Hara
First of all a person should temporarily ignore the severity and the punishment of the sin. He
must remember that Hashem has infinite mercy and is always ready to accept those who
wish to return to him. As far as rectifying the past forget about that for now, just focus on
the current situation when at a later situation you will have more energy then you should
consider doing Tikunim for the past. The whole trick of Avodas Hashem is, when you have
energy you do, when you are low on energy you contract yourself and remain still using all
remaining energy to refrain form falling, waiting for more energy so you can hit again.
Remember the mighty warrior is not the person who can strike a one time hit but rather a

person who knows the techniques of battle and can fight consistently little by little until he
reaches the day that he has completely destroyed his enemy. This person will rise up and
continue no matter what falls and obstacles are placed in his path.
The way the Yeter Harah works is very simple. At a general point in time when a person is in
control of his mind he has almost no control over him. He then draws him in little by little, it
could start by having him look at an impure picture, bring an impure thought into his head or
any number of ways. He then draws him more and more into his trap. In the beginning a
person can still pull back however as a person transcends into the impurity he starts loosing
his will to pull back little by little until he reaches a point where he thinks that it is impossible
to stop.
The Solution to this is very simple although very hard to cary out. It is, to stop it before it
starts to demolish it before it begins. The second a person feels this Yeter Hare gaining even
the smallest entrance over him he must run and do everything in his power to get away.
Even if he feels that he is miles away from committing the actual sin.
The only way a person can do this is to start making boundaries. Every person must analyze
where he falls and start chopping away at those places. Not at the sin itself but ten steps in
front of the sin.
There is also another issue that even when a person does all within his might not to go next
to a sin there are going to be times when he will be tested and he will be placed in a
situation against his will. In this place he must make use of extremely drastic methods to
escape at all costs. It is here that he proves that he is truly Shomer Habris. It is here that he
receives his biggest Tikun when he is forcibly passed through those same situations in the
same constricted mind frame and he immerges victorious.
However all this is very hard as a person will be placed through thousands of tests which he
must pass. He must vanquish impure thoughts from his mind hundreds of thousands of times
until he is victorious. When a person looks at all this it seems humanly impossible to do. This
is because he is not aware of the important fact that the more times he wins the stronger he
becomes. Every time he passes a test the easer it becomes to pass it again. There will be a
point when he will look back and the tests that loomed in front of him like huge dark
mountains will suddenly appear to be nothing more then little pebbles. He will reach a time
that he will laugh at the past weaknesses that controlled his life.
However even if a person accepts this fact as being true since he can not actively experience
it, it is extremely difficult for him to act upon it and use it as a motivation to fight such a
huge battle.
A person who wishes to become Shomer Habris must do the following tune out everything
else and say I am going to try being Shomer Habris for the next week after that what ever
happens happens. After that week a person must start again if a person falls on the way it is
not a big deal he should forget about it immediately he just has to refocused his energies
and start again. Every time a person wins it becomes easier and easier until he has totally
left his previous actions and has gained full control over himself.
Part 2
Building protection
A person may say the following "It is very good if I was living in Tzfat or Meah Shiarim
studying Torah all day, then it would be very easy to be Shomer Habris. Unfortunately life
has placed me in a situation that I have to travel to the City every day and work in a mixed
office with non jewish and unreligious coworkers. I also hardly have time to pray and study
Torah. I am being exposed to the Klipos the whole day, how is it possible to be Shomer
Habris?
The answer is the following the more impure a person is, the more hold the Klipot have over
him. The more Tikunim a person does the more protection he has and the less of a hold the
Klipot have over him. If a person builds protection, then when he is forced to go into the
domain of the Klipot they have little grasp over him and he can pass through un effected.

Just like a small child who has not yet defiled himself can walk through the streets and is
much less effected, so to a person who does Tikunim can walk through the streets and has
much protection from the Klipot, impure thoughts and desires.
The basic trick is to build armor in advance. To do Tikunim before you need them, to seal the
holes before the Klipot can gain a hold. Tikunim is a double term, it helps rectify the past and
build protection in the future. Even a person that is fully aware that he is still in the
possession of the Sitra Acher and that he is still falling to the sins of Pgam Habris, Heaven
Forbid, he should also do the Tikunim. Doing the Tikunim will remove a large percent of his
impure thoughts and desires and will make it much easier for him to be Shomer Habris. In
addition they will also send him much protection from heaven and save him from even
entering into a situation where he may stumble. A person who does Tikunim if he ever
Heaven Forbid enters a situation where he is about to stumble, suddenly all the Tikunim that
he has done in the past will rise up to his aid and save him.
The first thing a person has to do is mark a separation between the things he is forced to do
and the things that he does maliciously, whether out of irresponsible planning or from the
fact that he is not willing to make some simple sacrifices to become Shomer Habris. A person
can only expect to be protected in situation that he must enter, not in situations that he
enters form his own will and for his personal desires. In addition a person is required to
make some sacrifices. If a person places himself in a situation because not doing so would
have caused him some slight discomfort, that is not called a situation that he was forced to
enter.
Let us give some examples a person might be forced to work in the city. He might be forced
to travel on the subway / railroad system. He might be forced to work a mixed office and talk
to women. He might be forced to use the internet for work related reasons. He might feel
forced to keep up to date on current events. However there is absolutely no excuse in the
world for ever watching a movie. For ever reading any non work related books. For ever
watching TV. For ever going to impure places for any social activity. For ever socializing with
women for non work related reasons. If a person is not willing to sacrifice these activities,
only because at times it will place him in a situation of discomfort, then the fault is his. It his
own fault if he stumbles to the sins of Pgam Habris and he will pay the price.
[Let us just add two things here. The first is, if a person carefully plans out his life and also if
he prays to Hashem then he can avoid most of the situations that we listed above of being
"forced to do". The second thing is that even if a person still actively does the things we
stated above that should not be done, or that he made a judgment upon himself that if he
changes his whole life in one minute he will surely fall after a short period of time. He
consistently removes himself from the Klipah little by little until he has total stopped. Both
these people should also do Tikunim since they will help him out.]

Going to the Mikvah is one of the biggest Tikunim for flaws of the covenant, but many people
are afraid or embarassed to go. Here is a practical guide to everything you need to know,
from Briskodesh.org
Tikun 1: Go to the Mikvah

Going to the Mikvah is one of the biggest Tikunim for Pgam Habris. Even if a person is still
steeped in these actions, going to the Mikvah will help him change.
Many people have a myth that most Mikvas are dirty and crowded. This is not true most
Mikvas nowadays are in relatively nice buildings.
Most Mikvas are cleaned everyday. Most Mikvas have their water changed everyday. There is
also chlorine in the water which kills all germs. The chlorine itself should not be a problem
since it is no worse then any other swimming pool. Almost all people shower before entering
the Mikvah.
Most Mikvah buildings contain at least one Mikvah that is at a room temperature. Most

modern Mikvas have nice showers with decent pressure and hot water. Most of the time the
showers are divided and have curtains.
Mikvas are very rarely crowded, only in the hours right before Shabbat or a Holiday.
Also if you want, you can take a shower after you dip in the Mikvah.
You can bring soap and shampoo with you.
No one will look at you like you are crazy if you bring shower slippers.
Some people are afraid to go because they are embarrassed to walk around with out clothes.
This is not such an issue since no one is looking at you. Most people do not look around at all
while they are in the Mikvah. Also this is an unnatural feeling, if a person is doing a mitzvah
he should not be embarrassed. It is only because of your sins of Pgam Habris that you are
having these reactions. Someone who has purified himself a little and goes to the Mikvah
everyday does not get embarrassed.
Either way, you can bring a large towel and drape it over your shoulder so it covers your
private parts. There are many people who do this and it is recommended. The towel you
remove at the last second before you enter the water or shower. Also even if you are
embarrassed in the beginning, after a number of times it will go away. Consider it part of your
Tikun.
There are also certain hours when the Mikvah is almost always empty. Go then, there will be
no one there.
There are those that are afraid that they have so defiled themselves that they will not be able
to prevent themselves from fantasizing in the process and they will embarrass themselves.
These people should not forget how powerful the Mikvah is and how it can protect them. They
should try going a number of times when it is empty and then they will see that they do have
the ability to control their thoughts.
A person who goes to the Mikvah everyday besides the great Holiness he brings upon himself,
he also saves himself from many situations and tests he would have to go through if he
showered in his own home, where he has problems controlling his thoughts and desires.
A person who goes everyday does not have to be embarrassed to go when he sees Keri,
because he goes to the Mikvah either way.
Practical Guide
1 - Find out the locations of all your local Mikvas, find out their hours some open as early as 3
AM.
2 - Pick one that suits you, if you are worried about cleanliness pick the nicest one.
3 - Figure out the hours when it will be totally empty. Very early in the morning, people go
before praying Vatikin (Sunrise). Figure out the time right after the netz minyan starts it
should be empty. Also depending on the minyanim in the area, there are always slots when it
is almost always empty.
4 - Now go in and pretend you are looking for your shampoo bottle that you left there. When
you see that the room is empty quickly jump into the Mikvah and out. If you are very afraid
someone is going to walk in on you, then take the showers in your house, to shorten the
time.
5 - Then one time, someone is going to walk in on you and you will be a little embarrassed.
After this happens two, three times it will not bother you anymore. Soon you will be going on
a busy Friday afternoon.
If you refuse to go then remember that all natural lakes and rivers can be used as a men's
mikvah. Go to a river or the ocean. Wear your bathing suit, then when you are already in the
water pull it off and do the immersions.

If you can't go every day then go at least on Erev Shabbot.

It is best to go from mid day and on. However if you must, go any time on Friday. This might
be the best time to find it empty. Most Mikvas are open the whole day Friday. Try it around
11:00.
It is also very important to go if you see Keri. Also if you were Pogem Habris Heaven Forbid,
in any way, run to the Mikvah as soon as you can.
Erev Yom Kippur is a must. Many Mikvas offer private sessions, where only one person at a
time goes in.
What to do in the Mikvah
-Try to spend as little time as you can undressed (unless in water)
-Men do not make any Bracha (blessing) on the mikvah.
-Just undress and dip in the water.
-Make sure your whole body is underwater, and there is no hair sticking out. Also make sure
you have no barrier on your body such as a watch or band aid.
-Dip once to remove impurity. Dip a second time to bring Holliness upon you. Some have the
custom of dunking three or seven times, or even more.
-After that you can get out and leave, finished.
-If you want you can add as many meditations as you want, there are many on this site. Just
make sure to do them only when you are in the water.
Be strong, give it a try.

Tikun 2: Studying Torah

Email

Many people who have committed serious transgressions later join a Yeshivah, and place
much effort on studying Torah, and the Torah protects them. In the beginning they feel
wasted, but as time goes on they get a lot of their energy back. Sometimes after a person
has sinned many times it is very hard for him to study Talmud but if he keeps on trying he
will break through the surrounding Klipot.
The following advice is found in the Zohar:
One day, Rabbi Hisda saw a student whose face was unnaturally pale. He said to himself,
This young man is undoubtedly assailed by sinful imaginations. So he took him in hand and
interested him in the words of Torah until he returned to a better frame of mind. From that
day the student resolved not to give way anymore to evil thoughts, but to study the Torah for
its own sake. Rabbi Yose said, When a man perceives that evil thoughts are assailing him, he
should study the Torah and that will drive them away. (Zohar, Vayeshev)

Torah study is not only the way of overcoming temptation and cleansing ones mind. It is also
a major part of Tikun HaBrit. This is because the Torah, the Tree of Life, is integrally bound up
with the sefirah of Yesod. Sexual transgressions that damaged the Yesod can be can be
rectified by attaching oneself to the Yesod through the purifying fire of the Torah.
The violation of the Brit though the wasting of semen - to say nothing of stark immorality
or sexual relations prohibited by the Torah or the sages, for the words of the sages are even
more grave - causes a blemish in the mind. Therefore his tikun is that he occupy himself with
Torah that derives from Divine Wisdom. (Tanya, Igeret HaTshuva, Ch. 9)
If one has strayed into transgression and has incurred the penalty of death at the hands of
Heaven, what should he do that he might live? If he was wont to study one page, let him
study two; to read one chapter, let him read two. (Vayikra Rabbah, 25:1)
The Mishna Berurah states:
It is known from books that the main tikun for someone who has fallen in this matter, G-d
forbid, is to increase his Torah study for the rest of his life. Then the merit of Torah will
protect him, as it says in Midrash Tanchumin, if a man sins and is deserving of death at the
hands of Heaven, what can he do to save himself and live? If he is used to learning one
chapter, he should learn two; if one page, then two. If he doesnt know how to learn, he
should busy himself with charity and good deeds. And the main point of his learning should
be to practice what he learns for if not, his learning will not have the power to protect him,
G-d forbid. (Laws of Yom Kippur, Prohibition Against Sexual Relations, 4215b, Section 3. See
there, Shar HaTzion, 5 and 6)
Since the entire Torah is comprised of the Names of Hashem, all Torah study brings about
profound tikunim. Additionally, it is proper to study the mussar books of our sages dealing
with self-improvement, like Messillat Yesharim. In atoning for sexual transgressions, a
person has to not only change his deeds, he has to change his midot, or character traits. If he
was easily provoked into anger, he has to learn to bear insults and abuse without striking
back. If he was prone to depression, he has to learn to face every new day with an
orientation of joy. Transformations like these require intensive learning, self-discipline, and
the ability to start over with each setback and fall. The tshuva involved in sanctifying ones
life is not a onetime thing, but a challenging, lifelong project.
The love of Torah and the fervent performance of good deeds elevate a person to a higher
realm of existence. Instead of focusing on the selfish, personal pleasure of sexual
gratification, he now strives to please others, and to please G-d by dedicating himself to His
Torah. In doing so, base desires no longer hold him captive. Instead of being driven by a
quest for physical pleasure, the baal tshuva finds true joy in higher, holier spheres.

Tikun 3: Crying

For a sin that originates with the eyes, it is necessary to repent with the eyes...
It is brought down in the Writings of the ARI that when someone is Pogem Habris he greatly
strengthens the side of impurity. Each time he causes many sparks of holiness to be given
over to the external forces through the drops of seed that went to waste.
The Kabbalists also write that when a person sheds tears from his eyes over this sin. With
each tear he raises one drop of seed. For each time he was Pogem, many drops came out of
him, now with each tear he nullifies one drop.
There are many places in the Zohar that speak of the effectiveness of tears.
The reason tears are so effective is because they stem from the level of Chuchma and Pgam
Habris stems from Dass in Chuchmah. One sees he can only spill seed by building up the
desire with his will and knowledge (Dass). In fact the more Dass he put into the seed,

meaning the more bound he was to his fantasies, the worst the damage is. The Ari writes that
each time a person sins he gives a sword to the Yetzer, this is the sword of the wicked Esav,
he then ascends to the source of the souls and cuts off a holy soul. From this he creates a
huge fearsome Klipah. This causes great darkness in all the worlds, and this flaws the Upper
Knowledge.
Now he does the opposite and with the deepest part of his will and knowledge he regrets his
sins, until he sheds tears. He forcefully pulls up the holy sparks from the Klipah. When he
raises these sparks many times they drag up with them sparks from other people who sinned
as well. When the neighboring sparks see his sparks redeemed they become very jealous and
force their way up as well. He therefore causes great rectifications as he cries.
Another reason is because the whole sin stems from the eyes. A person does not sin unless
he first looks with his eyes, his heart then desires and his actions complete the sin. Therefore
when he cries he is also fixing his eyes.
Even a person whose heart is so clogged up fro his actions that he can not cry, yet yells and
moans as he tries his hardest to regret his action. This person, Hashem considers it as if he is
crying. On this the verse says "He hears the sound of tears" meaning the sound even though
there are no tears.
However fortunate is the one who actually does cry. If a person prays to Hashem to give him
the power to cry, then in the end he will be able to cry.
However when a person cries he must be careful of three things.
Firstly he should be very careful not to become haughty when he thinks of what a big Tikun
he is doing. Since crying is so big they try their hardest to trip him with haughtiness.
Secondly after one cries, many times he feels as if a large load was lifted from him. True, he
did do a large Tikun but he should not think that just because he was able to cry a number of
times that he had total fixed his sin. The sins he did caused a lot of damage and it is only by
constantly doing Tikunim that he manages to erase them completely.
The Third thing is not to let the crying lead you into a state of depression. Depression is very
bad and it can only hurt you. Therefore when he is done crying he should say the following.
"Master of the earth, I believe with full faith that you are merciful and large to forgive, and
surely you will stretch out your right hand to accept my repentance." After this he should try
his hardest to make himself happy. He should sing a song if necessary.
The Kabbalists teach that there are two main places where a persons sins are revealed, on his
forehead and on his hands. Therefore when a person cries he should take his tears and rinse
his hands and forehead to help erase the marks of his sins.

In addition to the actual ingathering of the Jewish People to Israel, this prayer has an inner
understanding of rectifying sexual sins.
Tikun 4: "Who gathers the dispersed"

The spilling of semen in vain causes innumerable souls to be scattered in all directions
without a fitting body to receive them. Instead they are doomed to wander in exile among the
kleipot. These outcast souls must be rectified and returned to their heavenly source.
In addition to the actual ingathering of the Jewish People to Israel, this inner understanding is
one of the meanings of the blessing in the Amidah prayer, Tekah b'shofar gadol. This should
also be in our mind when we say, Blow a great shofar for our freedom, and raise a banner to
gather in our exiles, and gather us together speedily from the four corners of the earth to our
land.
At the end of the blessing, when you say the phrase "Yachad Marba Kanfot", meditate on the
second to last letters of each word, Chet, Beit, Vav. These letters spell out one of the holy

names of Hashem that is alluded to in the pasuk from Iyov (Job 20:15) "Chayil Bala
Vayekiyenu" (He swallowed wealth, but will vomit it out). This idea alludes to the return of
blessing and shefa power to a person, after it was removed to to sin.
{WARNING: Divine names should only be used in thought, DO NOT PURNOUNCE THEM,
meditate on them in your minds eye for the best of your ability.}
Before you seal the Bracha say the following prayer:
May it be your will our G-D and the G-D of our fathers that every single drop of seed from me
that went to waste, whether on purpose or by accident, whether it occurred through thoughts
or actions, whether in this reincarnation or in a past reincarnation, and were swallowed up by
the Klipot. Now the Klipot should vomit these sparks of seed that they had swallowed up, in
merit of the awesome name coming from the verse "Might that they swallowed they will
vomit" CHES<BAIS<VAV and in honor of your great name (combine the name YKVK with the
name CBV YUD<CHES<HEH<BAIS<VAV<VAV<HEH.
Also in the simple translation of the blessing, have in mind that you are gathering all the
sparks from the Klipot.
Do these kavanot three times a day in the amidah of all three prayers. You should
occasionally leave out the prayer, to avoi making a permanent addition to the prayers set by
our sages.

Tikun 5: Other Tikunim

While the cleansing power of the Torah is vast, Torah learning, in and of itself, does not
necessarily uproot the deep stains caused by transgression to the Brit. As we learned, to
rectify sexual transgressions, a focused, pinpoint tshuva is needed.
The revered and holy Kabbalist, Rabbi Yaacov Abuchatzera, ztzal, of Morroco, grandfather of
the saintly Baba Sali, wrote in his commentary on the Torah that the frightening warnings and
tribulations described in the Torah portion, Bechukotai, have their root cause in
transgressions of the Brit:
The early and later Torah authorities stated that the majority of major tribulations that
men suffer, whether pestilence, famine, or war, the majority stem from transgressions against
the Brit.... Therefore, if a man comes to serve G-d, he should first properly rectify blemishes
to the Brit, and afterward begin to serve G-d. And it is all of the transgressions against the
Brit, and the evil occurrences that stem from it, that are hinted at in the admonishments of
this Torah portion. And the things that are written, But if you will not hearken to me...
(Vayikra, 26:14,) and, and if you despise My statutes... (ibid,) does not mean that they do
not perform any commandments, nor study the Torah. Rather, even though they study Torah
and observe the commandments, the principle thing is missing, because the Brit, which is the
main thing, is blemished and they did not rectify it. And since the Brit is blemished, and was
not rectified, everything is considered as being nullified and non-existent.
In order to assist the penitent in his path of rectification, masters of the Kabbalah composed
special prayers called Tikunim which have the power to erase the blemishes caused by
sexual transgressions, and to rectify the souls that fell into the realm of impurity through the
spilling of semen in vain. These prayers, when recited with heartfelt remorse, repair the
damage caused to all spiritual worlds, by rectifying the sefirah of Yesod, which, as we
learned, is the all-encompassing channel of Divine illumination and blessing. These Tikunim
include:
1. The Tikun HaYesod of holy Gaon, Rabbi Yosef Chaim, ztzal, also known as the Ben Eish
Chai.
2. The Tikun Clalli of the holy Tzaddik, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, ztzal.
3. The Tikun Yesod Yeshuat Eliahu of the holy Tzaddik and Kabbalist, Rabbi Eliahu Leon
Levi, shlita.
4. The Kaballistic version of Pitom Haketoret, as formulated by the Ari HaKadosh.

These unique and profound Tikunim, when incorporated into a penitents daily regimen of
prayer and Torah learning, have the ability to purify the deepest recesses of the soul, and to
free a person from the mistakes and temptations of the past. The verses of the prayers, the
Divine names they contain, and their Kaballistic codes act to obliterate the klipot, or shells of
impurity, created through the emission of semen in vain and other sexual transgressions.
This serves to liberate the penitent from the invisible, destructive influences which these
negative spiritual forces have on his life. In awakening hitherto dormant powers of holiness,
these tikunim also strengthen the penitent to overcome the temptations and challenges of the
future. In addition, they serve as a lifeline, providing an important sense of security. For, if a
person should weaken in the battle against the evil inclination and fall back to erring ways, he
knows he has a ladder with which he can climb back up out of the imprisoning clutches of
sexual sin. The prolific author and lecturer, Rabbi Yisrael Hess, ztzal, counseled thousands of
young people throughout Israel, most notably at Bar Ilan University where he taught for
many years. In an essay on Shmirat HaBrit, he emphasizes the importance of relying on the
secrets of Kaballah to purify a person from the pollution and darkness of spilling semen in
vain:
The sin of spilling semen in vain is, at the same time, a transgression like all Torah
transgressions, and yet much more severe in its devastating influence, in that it causes deep
and high reaching damage, far greater than other prohibitions of the Torah. Because of this
duality, we cannot understand the magnitude of this transgression and its powerful influences
according to standard explanations. Rather, our understanding must come from the inner
explanations of the Torah, from the spiritual realm that extends beyond our ordinary physical
orientation. This understanding derives from powers that are beyond human intellectual
reasoning, which are found in the world of Kaballah.Within the physical drop of semen
emitted from our material bodies is to be found a Divine creative power hidden from our
eyes, beyond our conceptual understanding, beyond our ability to create it ourselves.
When we recognize this wonder, it becomes clear that the rectification of any blemish to
this Divine essence cannot be among the ordinary paths of correction that we are familiar
with. We cannot even understand how or why a particular tikun works to rectify the
transgression, or how some particular advice can make whole what was blemished and erase
the damages incurred.
With the help of G-d, when we merit to increase our learning and knowledge, when we fill
ourselves with Torah and faith, with the fear of G-d, and with greater purity, then we will
merit to fathom what is hidden from us now... Until then, our desire to emerge from our
quandary and to improve ourselves, brings us to proceed forward with the willingness to bow
our heads and submit to the giants of the inner workings of the soul, the masters of Kaballah.
In doing this, may there be a balancing atonement a sin that we committed wantonly,
without thinking about its consequences will be rectified through tikunim that are beyond our
thinking processes and intellectual grasp. (Essay on Shmirat HaBrit, in the book, VHayitem
Kidoshim, Pgs.150-151.)

Prayers of the heart, the words we speak in hitbodedut should be said in our own languages.
Prayers from the siddurs, taught to us by our Sages and Rabbis should be recited in Hebrew.
Nevertheless if one cannot read Hebrew he is still merited for saying the equivalence in
English. (The Ten Psalms in English can be found in an English Hebrew Psalms book; the
chapters are: 16, 32, 41, 42, 59, 77, 90, 105, 137, 150.)

Translation:
Our G-D and G-d of our fathers:
Who chooses King David and his descendants; who chooses songs and praises. Please turn to
me in mercy and accept the Psalms I am going to say as if King David himself were saying
them, and let his merit protect us.
There is merit in every verse of the Psalms and in every word, in their letters, vowels and
notes and in all the holy names spelled out by the first and last letters of each Hebrew word.
Let this merit stand in our favor to atone for our sins and transgressions, cut down our
enemies and accusers on High, and destroy all the thorns and thistles surrounding the
Supernal Rose. Send down blessing from Your exalted place to all the levels of our soul and
spirit, to purify us from our sins, forgive our transgressions and atone for our rebellion, just
as You forgave King David who recited these psalms before You. And G-D will cause your sin
to pass away and you will not die (Samuel II 12:13).
Do not take us from this world before our time. Give us a full life throughout our span of
seventy years so that we can make amends for all the wrong we have done.
May the merit of King David protect us, and be patient with us until we return to You in
perfect repentance.
Grant us blessing from Your treasury of open-handed generosity, as it is written: I will be
gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy
(Exodus 33:19). Just as we sing before You in this world, grant us the privilege of singing
before You, G-D, in the World to Come.
Through our recital of the psalms, let pleasant song break forth with rejoicing and exultation.
Let glory be given to Israel; and splendor and beauty shall be in the House of G-D. Bring it
speedily in our days, Amen.

Translation:
In saying these ten psalms I am binding myself to all the true Tzaddikim in this generation
and all the true Tzaddikim who have departed, "the holy ones who are in the earth", and
especially our holy Rebbe, Tzaddik, foundation of the world, the "flowing brook, source of
wisdom", Rabbi Nachman the son of Feiga, (may his merit protect us,) who revealed this
remedy.

Come let us sing to G-D, let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before
His presence with thanksgiving; let us sing to Him joyously in song. For GOD is a great GOD
and a great King over all gods (Psalms 95:1-3).
I prepare my mouth to give thanks and praise to my Creator, to unify the Holy One, blessedbe-he, and His Shechinah in awe and love, through the Hidden and Concealed One, in the
name of all Israel.

Prayers for sexual sins

By MATTHEW WAGNER
Kabbalists and their followers in dozens of Kabbalah yeshivot across the country this week
began a six-week regimen of special prayers and fasting, known as Tikkun Shovavim or
Tikkun Habrit, to rectify the spiritual damage caused by sex-related transgressions and, more
specifically, nocturnal emissions.

"These six weeks are particularly propitious for the expiation of these sins and for raising up
sparks of holiness trapped as a result of these transgressions," said Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri of
Yeshivat Shalom in Jerusalem.
Batzri explained that the six weeks of prayers and fasting coincide with the six weekly public
Torah readings in synagogues of the first half of Exodus. These readings tell the story of the
Jewish nation's bondage in Egypt and conclude with the revelation on Sinai and the giving of
the Torah. Shovavim is an acronym for the names of these six weekly portions.
"Just as the children of Israel went down into Egypt, a place of impurity and defilement, to
raise up holy sparks, so too can we rectify what we have damaged in the spiritual world and
raise up holy sparks," Batzri said.

Every day during these six weeks select kabbalists, such as Rabbi David Batzri and Rabbi
Benayahu Shmueli, fast and pray. However, mass prayers are normally said on Mondays and
Thursdays. These prayers, which include special kabbalistic intentions or "kavanot," last for
several hours.
Batzri said that evil demons from "the other side" use nocturnal emissions to create more
demons.
"Most of our troubles are caused by these demons," said Batzri. "They hurt us, they hurt our
children, they cause poverty." Batzri said that the special prayer, which includes the reading
of portions of the Zohar, fasting and repentance can destroy these demons.

At Yeshivat Nahar Shalom, headed by Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, in addition to the prayers
said for rectifying the damage from nocturnal emissions, prayers are also recited for other
sexual transgressions such as having relations with a married women, homosexual
intercourse, and having relations with a gentile woman.
"Even if someone never did one of these sins, he might have done it in a past life," said Dror,
one of Shmueli's aides, expressing the kabbalistic belief in reincarnation.
Sephardi Jews are more likely to take part in Tikkun Shovavim prayers, although there are a
few Ashkenazi yeshivot for the learning of Kabbalah, including Sha'ar Hashamayim and
Anshei Ma'amad, both in Jerusalem. Many hassidic sects also take part in the special prayers.

- stay happy and stay happy and stay happy - a low guy is vulnerable
- assume confidently that you had and have the best love life.
- If you avoided casual relationships you are fortunate for look at the world; the vast
majority of those are unhappy so you haven't missed - you gained!
- If you are in a observant Jewish relationship imbued with true Jewish values it is likely that
you have a much better relationship and love life than most people on the planet. Now that's
something.
- focus on having (or learning for marriage about ) a great relationship with your wife; a
relationship of real and deep respect is very powerful
- The kabbalist and composer of L'cha Dodi R'Shlomo Alkabetz zt'l writes that the herb
henna "gives one self-control and peace of mind; he is not attracted to lustful desires"
(Ayeles Ahavim Ch.1). You can dissolve henna in water and drink it every morning on an
empty stomach - it will also remedy excessive perspiration (source the Torah book on
healing: Natures Wealth p.141). Note Henna is safe for most people - countless Sephardim
have used it for centuries for Henna nights before weddings (now you know the wisdom
behind this custom - consider it). But be careful: my research turned up these findings:
1)allergic reactions to Henna are rare. 2)However, those who have a G6PD deficinecy which
is an inherited blood type should NOT use Henna as it may cause chas veshalom severe
problems or even chas veshalom death. Obviously if you suspect you may have that blood
type get yourself tested before consuming or using henna - see G6PD websites or ask you
doctor for more information. Likewise if you have any other concerns speak to a qualified
doctor. Still, for everyone else I recommend henna I have happily taken henna the last week
and baruch hashem it has worked as promised! Make sure you buy pure henna - henna hair
dye may have other stuff in it you don't want to eat. I got pure henna at the spice shop in
the Bucharian Shuk (in the Beit Israel neighbourhood) in Jerusalem.
- immerse your head in Talmud and halacha - if you do this you won't be able to think of
anything else while you are learning
- if you feel lust chanel the energy into doing a kosher chesed. I don't have proof to hand
but I read once that forbidden relations (lo aleinu) stem from misplaced chesed. Chanel that
energy into doing a chesed for someone (especially your wife) - it will make you feel all nice
and warm inside!
- realise that the extremely vast majority of porn is manufactured - there extremely little
'true' pictures and even those involve bad traits. Realise that porn is all made up and is
actually very nasty and disgusting as apprent from the swear words they use. Realise porn
involves a lot of suffering and human degradation. Realise porn is nothing like a relationship

with a real woman.

- realise the western media is overflowing false evil complete rubbish about unbelieveable
instant relationships and instant incredible love-making. The truth is (obviously if you think
about it) that like everything else top quality great relationships and great love-making take
a lot of time effort, thought, trial and error, and quality input. Yes gentlemen, we are talking
years and serious dedication here! But it's worth it - choose a wife wisely and you'll have the
best years of your life.
- realise that if after having done teshuva and tikkunim you slip chas veshalom, you are still
on a higher level than before. For get the slip. Keep going - never ever give up getting up and with Hashem's mighty help you'll get there! You owe this to yourself for eternity - that's
big time serious.
-Don't feel guilt - guilt is I think a trap of the yetzer. When you have achieved some solid
achievments of basic teshuva and tikkunm and separation from filth for some time, and feel
strong, then is the time to cry to benefit your soul. Never ever leap levels.
- plug yourself into a Torah learning programme you like with others - you'll really benefit in
many ways.
- limit computer use - for example lock your computer in a storage room when you are not
using it for business.
- pray; go to an empty private room and scream to Hashem for help!
- pray for other guys to be shomer brit

A no-nonsense take on getting out of the rut. It may sound difficult at times, but everything
worthwhile in life is. Another essay from Briskodesh.org
1 There is no other option
Pgam Habris is a very strong Klipah. Rebbe Nachman writes that staying pure from any sort
of Pgam Habris in action, thought or speech is the main test a person is subjected to in his
life. It is therefore not surprising that many fall to these Klipas, each person according to his
personal downfalls.
Even though it is a constant battle to be Shomer Habris a person must do so for his whole life
is dependent on it, both in this world and the next. The punishment for any sort of Pgam
Habris is extreme. In this world a person is brought through suffering after suffering for his
actions. In the next world the person is demolished completely for such sins. Any person in
this world who is leading a happy life although he is Pogem Habris, should know that every
ounce of his energy is coming straight from the Sitra Acher and in fact his punishment after
death will be many times more then those who have suffered in this world for their sins.
A person who is Pogem Habris will receive terrible punishment for his sin as well as he is cut
off from all Holiness in this world and the Next.
In Western Society the various sins of Pgam Habris are looked at as if they are harmless.
Even in the religious world some of them such as spilling seed are almost totally ignored.
Since people do not hear about the severity of these sins they hardly stay away from them.
Even the people that were warned that it is a sin to commit such actions look at them like an
extremely minor transgression with very little consequences. In Western Society it is
considered imposable to be Shomer Habris. There are even wicked people who claim that it is
unhealthy to be Shomer Habris.

This is all a lie. Pgam Habris is one of the worst sins that a person can commit. A person is
going to be punished for his actions even if he passed his life pretending that he is ignorant
and avoiding the truth.
There is absolutely no other option other then to be a mighty worrier and battle the klipas
constantly, through every up and down until they are destroyed completely.
2 It is not impossible
Many people who were raised in Western Society, steeped in the Klipot believe that it is
imposable to be Shomer Habris. This is not true there are thousands upon thousands of
people in Eretz Yisroel that are Shomer Habris, amongst them many that are single and not
married.
For those that claim that if a person never fell into these Klipot it is possible, but one who has
unfortunately stumbled has no way of picking himself up. This is also not true. There are
many Bali Teshuva, who in the first part of their life committed many severe sins. Later they
managed to rectify their life and become Shomer Habris.
There are many easy ways to rectify ones life. If one can not handle the severe path of
Tikunim and Segufim he can use much tamer methods such as the path of Rebbe Nachman of
Breslov which is also extremely effective.
3 The will to stop
The first thing a person needs is the will to stop. It is going to be a tough battle and a person
must be truly committed to stop. A person should recognize that although his Animalistic Soul
is still very attached to these Klipot, at times even controlling him. He himself knows that it is
a terrible sin and he is petrified of committing it. He must have the will to want to be Shomer
Habris. If he was given an easy way to do it, he would go there immediately. Now that there
is no easy way to remain pure, he commits himself to fight with all his power.
There is only one way to reach this will, that is to read as much as he can about the severity
of these sins and the damage that it causes. Even though this topic is ignored by the Erev
Rav of Western Society, it does not excuse one from researching this topic.
Although there is only a small amount of information on this web site, one should begin with
this. There is also a list of Sefarim that deal with this topic. A person should try his hardest to
study as many of them as he can.
4 The battle
Even if a person wishes with all his might to stop being Pogem there are many times that he
is extremely weak, especially if he was Pogem many times in the past. He must learn how to
fight the battle, he must research the methods and weapons and learn how to use them.
A person growing up in Western Society was surely helplessly attacked by the Klipot since he
was a child. Now that he has grown older and found out the truth he must garner strength
and fight his oppressors, for his very life depends on it.
5 Making boundaries
Even if a person is determined to stop, there are many times he fall into states of weakness
during which sins.
The main solution is to make boundaries. This is the most important aspect for Shmiras
Habris. The Kabbalah teaches that a person sins only when a spirit of insanity descends upon
him. This is seen in practical reality for a person who wishes to be Shomer Habris has many
separations between himself and the sin. At most times the person would swear that if he
was given a test now he could pass it. He feels this and knows this logically as well. However
once he starts entering the scene of temptation his Mochin-Mind and knowledge start leaving

him little by little until he is committing the sin and has no ability or desire to control himself.
There is only one solution for this and that is to never fall into that situation in the first place.
A person who wishes to be Shomer Habris, especially if he has fallen many times before must
have ten barriers between himself and the sin. The second he brakes through the first two all
the alarms must start going off in his head. By the time he has broken the third barrier he
must even due an extremely fanatical action to get away. Even though he is still miles away
from the actual sin and he believes that he can pull back at any second he wishes, it is not
true there will be many times when he will fall. He is losing more of his mochin every second
and the control he has over his will now will not be the same in a short period of time. He
must run away now even though it seems ridicules.
A person must sit down and make a list of all the things and situation that cause him to
stumble. He must then set boundaries so he will not even come close to being in that
situation.
6 Watching ones eyes
Chazal teach that the eyes see the heart desires and then the body acts. A person should not
look at any improper images at any time.
A person might ask what is so bad if I read a news magazine, it will never cause me to sin, I
am in full control. (besides the fact that each time a person looks at an improper image and
has an impure thought that in itself is a sin). Yes this is how a person fall, most times is he
was drawn into impurity from places like this little by little.
7 Do not say no, say later
The evil urge attacks a person through many ways including despair and confusion. If a
person looks at the fact that he can never commit the sin for the rest of his life he may
believe this to be impossible and give up all together. This is especially important when a
person is in middle of a test and barely has the ability to fight this one round. The second he
brings into his mind the fact that he must forever be Shomer Habris it is to much to handle,
he then feels a complete helplessness and gives in to his temptations.
We have also established that the whole temptation to do an act of Pgam Habris is a
temporary sprit of insanity that overcomes a person and then leaves him immediately after
he sins. If a person manages to push off the temptation for even a short period of time many
times he weakens it greatly. He can then easily prevent himself from committing the sin.
This is what a person should do. When he is overcome by temptation and does not believe
that he can overcome his desires. He should not try to completely fight off the desire to do
the sin. Instead he should say to himself that he will commit the sin and he will do so freely,
but not now rather in 2-3 hours. This is not so hard to do for it is a lot easer to push off the
evil urge then to fight it off completely. A person can in every single case push off the
temptation for a period of time.
Even though part of the condition was that he would be allowed to commit the sin when the
allotted time arrives, he might not even have the temptation to do so at that point. It is also
possible that even if he still has a desire to commit the sin it is much weaker then it was a
little earlier and now he can push it off again using the same technique but this time it will be
even easer. Also as the allotted period of time elapses and the desire weakens a person can
start doing some Tikunim and by the time the set period arrives he will be so strong that he
will laugh at the fact that he wanted to commit a sin just a short while ago.
However all this is only after he has pushed off the temptation. At the time he is pushing it
off, he can not think of any of this. He is only agreeing to push it off for a period of time after
which he may sin freely. If these thoughts do enter his head at that time and try to convince
him that it is all a trick and that he will stumble in the end, so why not just sin now. Still he
must say to himself, if I fall in two hours, I fall and it is irrelevant to me now. Right now I am
making an effort to push it off for two hours and then what ever shall happen shall happen. If
I win I win and if I lose so I lose.

On a larger scale, a person should sum up how often he falls to these sins. If a person
Heaven Forbid is Pogem once a week or even once a day (Rachmanah Letzlan) on an average
basis, he should acknowledge that fact. Assuming he is Pogem once a week, he should say to
himself instead of being Pogem once a week, from now on I will be Pogem only once every
two weeks. On this second week I will be Pogem freely and not even try to stop myself.
This is what a person must do; most times when the allotted time arrives he will be able to
push it off further. Even if he falls and commits the sin when the time has arrived he has still
won, because he has fulfilled his condition and has only sinned one time in the time he has
normally sinned twice. Now that he sees it wasn't so hard to hold off until the allotted time,
he can add more time to the condition and push off the sin for three weeks.
This is what a person must do, push off the sin more and more until he weakens it and breaks
it completely. If he falls in the middle, it is not the end of the world he will just get right back
up and continue pushing it off again and again. If he gets back up a number of times and
continues fighting there is no doubt that soon he will break this Klipah and become Shomer
Habris.
8 Replace your lust with another desire
The lust to commit sins associated with Pgam Haabris is very strong. However a person also
has other desires that are not nearly as destructive. Every person also has the desire to eat.
While controlling ones desire for food is very important while trying to progress spiritually or
while doing Tikunim, it comes in line much after a person has total control over desires to be
Pogem Habris. If a person is experiencing a strong urge to be Pogem Habris, he should
deflect this desire into food. He should go and by himself 4-5 hamburgers or a full tub of ice
cream. He should then place all his temptation into that until he has nullified it.
9 Stay away from boredom
Chazal say straight out that boredom leads to the various sins of Pgam Habris, and one can
see this from experience as well. When a person is bored his mind automatically starts
wondering to thoughts of impurity. This is very common until a person has purified his mind
and learned to control his thoughts. When a person has nothing to do he looks for something
to pass away his boredom. He can easily fall to the trap of reading books and watching
movies all of which contain impurity. While this in itself is a sin, it often leads to even worst
actions.
A person who knows that on a regular schedule he has blocks of time that he will have
nothing to do, should set up in advance a number of things that he will be able to occupy
himself with during this period of time. Obviously the best thing would be to do Tikunim and
study Torah. If he can't do this he should try to involve himself in some Chesed. However a
person is who is far from Kedusha is not always in a state where he is able to do these things.
Still this person must do anything to keep himself from being bored. A person should even
waste this period of time playing computer or video games, any thing that will keep his mind
occupied. (These must be totally free of impurity)
A person should have something lined up to do before he falls into a situation of boredom. He
should also have two three things lined up in case one doesn't work out.
WARNING: do not try to pass your boredom by watching TV, movies or surfing the web. Even
if you are committed to looking at only clean materiel, many times you will end up passing
into impurity due to your state of boredom. In addition many times an impure image or
provocation will come across your path and draw you into further impurity. The some warning
goes for reading books or any newspaper or magazine. Almost all materiel printed in western
society contain impure pictures and writings. Even if you expect it, or convince yourself that it
is clean, many times you will come across an impure part and will not be able to resist
looking at or reading it, this can easily draw you into worst desires. Remember a person who
was Pogem many times, is a very weak person when it comes to tests like these.
10 Do not hang out in the Bathroom

The bathroom is a place of impurity; it therefore leads a person to have impure thoughts if he
remains there for to long. A person is also undressed when going to the bathroom or taking a
shower, this places a person in a situation that he should not want to be in for longer then he
has to. One should stay in the bathroom for the shortest amount of time possible.
Many people have mirrors in their bathroom. These should be removed, for the eye sees the
heart desires and then a person sins.
Many people have reading materiel in their bathrooms to help pass time. Most printed
materiel today contains elements of impurity and should not be in your bathroom. Even
harmless books and magazines are all coated in impurity. Even if it is a perfectly clean book
one should not be in the bathroom for longer then he must.
11 Never look, touch or scratch your Bris.
It is forbidden according to Halacha to look, touch or scratch ones bris or the areas around it.
This is a protective barrier to keep a person away from Pgam Habris. It is not hard to do at
all; it is extremely easy once a person becomes accustomed to it. When a person goes to the
bathroom he should use a tissue or the end of his shirt rather then touching his Bris.
Many times a person feels that he much scratch himself in that area. He should use all his
control not to do so. This is also a very huge Tikun when a person feels the need to scratch
himself and he does not.
12 Do something extreme
This is the real and only game. Your very life and soul are at stake, you have to be ready to
do even an extremely fanatical action to save yourself from Pgam Habris. For example, if a
person, heaven forbid has a habit of being Pogem Habris while in bed. This person should
take a lighter or box of matches and put it by his bed. He must then firmly make up his mind
that next time he has an urge to be Pogem he may do so, as at this stage he might not be
able to prevent himself. However first he must burn his hand. If a person firmly commits to
doing this he is guaranteed to be saved from falling to his temptation. A person must grow up
and leave the immaturity of Western Society, there is nothing wrong with taking such
preventive measures for this is a battle that a person can not afford to lose.
13 - Clean your house of all Klipot
The average home in Western Culture is filled with hundreds if not thousands of objects
containing impure material. Even families that will not bring objects such as movies or
internet into their home, still have many books and pamphlets containing impure pictures and
writings. Besides the fact that these objects attract spirits of impurity just by laying around
the house, they often cause this person and his family members to sin.
Every person must do a total search of his entire home and cleanse it of all Klipot. It is quite
obvious that a person must get rid of his television and videos ect. Any person who has such
objects in his house is guaranteed that he and his family members will transgress many
various forms of Pgam Habris. However even newspapers and magazines that officially
contain nothing wrong, often do have much impurity in them. A person should cancel all the
subscriptions to newspapers and magazines as well as rid his home of all non Jewish books.
Even if a person must have various books or internet for business reasons and is confident
that he himself will never misuse them. Know this, your little children are not so stupid when
it comes to these matters. The Sitra Acher is more then happy to provide them with energy to
access these materials, if they are lying around your home. Most family problems come from
the fact that there are people being Pogem Habris in the family.
When you search your home to eradicate the Klipot, do not worry about the monetary loss
caused by throwing away valuable objects. If you have piles of DVDs worth thousands of
dollars, do not hesitate twice, throw them out immediately. Let this be your sacrifice to G-D,
he can easily replace the money for you. Never give or sell your defiled objects to another

Jew so he may stumble on them. Remember the harder it is for you to throw something
away, the bigger Tikun it is when you do.
14 It is not your friend it is your worst enemy
Sometimes when a person is depressed, weak, lonely the Klipot pretend to be his best friend.
A person's imagination also helps the process, giving him many rationalizations to be Pogem
Habris maybe even claming that it is good for him. Do not let them lie to you. The Klipot are
trying to do one thing, suck a person dry of energy. Even if your state of mind does let you
comprehend that they are your enemies, you can recall that a number of days ago when your
mind was calm it was very clear who your true enemy was.
If you are alone in a room, growl at them, yell out "Get away from me, you defiled, wicked
Klipot. You are not my friend you are my worst enemy, all the suffering that I have suffered is
only because of you."
15 Depression
Depression is one of mans worst enemies. Most of the times that a person succumbs and is
Pogem Habris it is a direct result from depression. A person should do anything to get of
depression (obviously excluding any activity that is even remotely related to impurity). Rabbi
Nachman of Breslov gives many tips and advice how a person can avoid depression.
One must also keep in mind that most of his depression was actually caused by him himself
through his various sins. There is nothing that causes depression as much as Pgam Habris.
This is due to the fact that much of his mind and emotions are not under his control any
longer but are being controlled by the impure spirits he created as well as by his animalistic
soul. Also a person who was Pogem Habris, most of the things he tries do not work out. In
addition he is put in many stressful situations and is brought through much suffering.
The more Tikunim a person does the more he removes this state of depression. A person
must acknowledge that since he has fallen many times he must now go through a period of
darkness as he is tested to see if he remains strong. If a person was Pogem for many years
he can not expect everything to be gone in a week or a month. A person should just look at
these states as something that will soon pass. If at that particular minute a person doesn't
have energy to do tikunim, he shouldnt do any. However he must be extremely careful not to
fall back to Pogem Habris no matter what the costs are. Very soon he will once again have a
new spurt of energy that he will be able to use to do more Tikunim.
16 - The first 40 Days
The arch step of creation is completed in 40 days and this manifests many times in scientific
reality. When a person wishes to distance himself from a bad habit the first forty days will
always be the hardest, it is during this time that he paves a path. When a person wishes to
become Shomer Habris then his hardest struggle will be during the first 40 days as he plows
his path through the spirits of impurity. After the first 40 days a person has passed a large
milestone and although he is far from safe, the overall test has just become easier. This does
not mean that he will not be tested periodically from time to time, it means that he has made
a nice separation between himself and the sin and now he can start gathering strength to
fight the bigger tests when they come.
17 - You are not safe yet
Even if a person has gone for a long period of time being Shomer Habris he should not
consider himself safe. He should not start letting down his guard and crossing the boundaries
that he has established for himself. They are just waiting for him to do that so they may once
again try to catch him in their trap. A person must be very weary of the Evil One and his
techniques. Even if a person feels very pure and that he will not be effected by letting down
his guard he should be aware that this is all a trap. He must continue fighting and doing
Tikunim. Even a person who has been Shomer Habris for years if he starts being loose with
his boundaries, he might be set up on a test that might be hard for him to pass.

This outline from briskodesh.org runs through many of the different aspects of restraining
yourself and rectifying past sins.
Rectifying the sin of spilling seed

Tikun Habris (Rectifying the sin of spilling seed)

*
*
*
*
*

Know that there are two sides.

The side of good, and the side of evil (Sitra Achrah).
G-d created evil to provide man with free will.
The Sitra Achrah is like a shell (klipah) it has no energy of its own.
All the klipas must receive their substance from the side of holiness (kedusha).

* In the days of idol worship (avodah zarah) people would consciously channel energy to
the forces of evil through meditating and other practices.
* Human fluids especially, provide substance to demonic forces.
* It is for this reason that many satanic rituals require semen or blood.
* All pain and suffering that exists in the world comes from the klipas.
* In this generation the klipas receive most of their nourishment from people who are
pogem their bris (desecrate the convent).
* The most common of these transgressions is spilling seed (motze zera lvtalah).
* Unfortunately this sin is quite common today. If people would realize its consequences
many would stop.
* Due to our low level and many sins this topic is ignored
* Just the opposite, shmiras habris is the most important issue to deal with today.
* If people would be shomer habris (guard the convent) Moshiach would come much
faster.
* Part of the seminal fluid (shichvas zera) comes from the brain, this is sent down the
spine.
* When a person spills seed he is wasting away part of his brain.
* This lowers all functions of the brain especially memory.
* Unfortunately most people were pogem since they were young and no longer remember
their state of mind before they started.
* Most people nowadays are controlled by their subconscious. Even conscious acts are
strongly tainted by their subconscious.
* This enslaves a person, strongly limiting his abilities.
* Again someone who has never been out of the klipas can not associate with this.
Through meditation one can feel this.
* Spilling seed makes this much worse. A persons emotions are thrown totally out of
balance.
* People who are pogem often have a hard time controlling their temper, they are
subjects of sadness and depression and lose their self confidence.
* Wasting seed uses up a lot of of the bodies energy this has many physical
manifestations.
* People who are pogem are always tired and need more sleep.
* In addition the running of the hormones causes bad body oder and breath.
* It causes people to bald prematurely and hair growth in strange places.
* Note it has different effects on different people.
* Also note any of the things listed above could have been caused by other reasons.
* There is spiritual energy all over the place.
* A special part of the brain is designated to receive these signals.
* However the information entering from the five senses is so strong that it blocks out the
spirituality.
* A person who studies torah keeps halacha and meditates can feel spirituality very
strongly.
* Even a regular person can feel spirituality to some degree. A person should feel a
difference on Shabbat.
* Someone who is pogem habris loses almost all his ability to perceive kedusha.

* One also loses his desire to study torah and do mitzvos.

* Just like a person creates children through intercourse so to a person draws down souls
every time he spills seed.
* These souls are immediately captured by the forces of evil who torture and starve them
stealing all their energy for themselves.
* The souls brought down through a persons sins are also considered his kids.
* They are not to happy about the position their father put them in.
* After a person dies these souls come to take revenge on their father, causing him many
problems.
* In addition they also come after his physical children and try to harm them.
* There are a number of halochos during the funeral and shivah that help prevent this.
* Using energy taken from this person, the forces of darkness give birth to Lilim (sexual
demons).
* These demons hang around a person steal his energy, confuse him and stick thoughts in
his head.
* Do not let this amaze you for if one meditates he will see many thoughts streaming
through his mind are not his own.
* These thoughts include sexual thoughts, thoughts denying G-D or just the worthless
thoughts that clutter a persons mind most of the day.
* At night these demons influence the persons dreams, and cause him to have nocturnal
emissions (mikreh lilah).
* If a person knows what he is doing he can climb to high spiritual levels.
* Someone who was pogem habris has damaged the sifirah of Yesod, it is impossible for
him to get far unless he rectifies the flaws he created.
* When a person wants to stop being pogem it is very important for him to start learning
the basics of Kabbalah.
* Someone who understands the way things work will have a much easer time listening to
halacha and sacrificing for Judaism.
* In addition if a person meditates he can easily feel the ups and downs of spiritual life.
* Advice is given in the holy books...if quitting for life is to much for a person to handle he
should look at one day or week at a time.
* Also if a person can overcome his embarrassment and talk to his rabbi or friend about
this subject it will help greatly.
* Many halochos were created to prevent a person from committing this sin.
* These are especially relevant to people who have already been pogem.
* Never touch or look at your bris (sexual organ) be especially careful when going to the
bathroom or showering.
* Do not wear tight clothing especially underwear (wear only boxers).
* Do not do anything that will warm your body before going to sleep. Eating certain foods
and wearing certain clothes can give a person temptations.
* It is self understood that you should not go near any books, movies, magazines, music,
Internet and newspapers. All these are overflowing with zuhamah.
* If one is smart he will avoid them completely. Do not say "I can continue to watch
movies, read books but stop sinning" those who say this are fools.
* Everyone should analyze their own personal situation and devise a plan to escape
destruction. This includes many fences and preventive measures.
* As we mentioned before wasting seed causes a lot of damage in the spiritual worlds and
has many physical manifestation.
* Stopping is the first step however many rectifications (tikunim) must now be made.
* Note the more tikunim a person does the better he will feel.
* Many seforim (holy books) describe tikunim for this sin, however many of them are
extremely harsh and not meant for this weak generation.
* Also note these tikunim can also help a person to stop being pogem, they can remove a
lot of the temptations and sexual thoughts.

* The most important tikun is to say Tikun Klali every day.

* Tikun Klali is composed of ten chapters of Tehilim meant to rectify the damage.
* Chapters 16, 32, 41, 42, 59, 77, 90, 105, 137, 150.
* Every chapter of Tahilim has a different power, R Nachman of Breslev reveled the ten
rectifying the bris.
* It is very powerful tikun, many sages died early for trying to find and reveal this
mystery.
* It takes around ten minutes to say. Reading it even without understanding the words is
still a powerful rectification.
* R Nachman said if one says Tikun Klali and goes to the mikvah on the day he had a
mikreh lylah, he has nothing to worry about.
* Tikun Klali also rectifies all sins to some extent and is said by Breslevers every day.
* Fasting is a very important tikun. If one can not handle fasting try fasting half a day or
eating less then you normally do.
* Fasting during Shovavim (Mon and Thr Shmos- Mishpatim) works very good.
* The basic kavanah for a fast is as follows ... One should meditate that the blood and fat
being consumed by body activities, instead of food should be in place of the korbnos
(sacrifices) that a person would normally have to bring.
* Going to the mikvah is an important part of the purification process
* If you can, go every day, if this is not possible try to go at least on erev shabbot.
* One who has a mikreh liylah (nocturnal emission) or was pogem heaven forbid, must go
to the mikvah as soon as possible.
* The basic kavanos for the mikvah are... First dip remove the tumah (impurity) have in
mind that you are cleaning your soul in the mikvah. Second dip have in mind to bring in
kedusha (holiness).
* On erev shabbot dip in a third time for the honor of shabbot. Have in mind to prepare
yourself for receiving the influx of the additional shabbot soul.
* If one can, meditate on the following divine names while under water (do not pronounce
them) Chet Bais Vav. Vav Vav Lamed. Bais Yud Tes. If you can try to visualize them.
* When one enters the mikvah the chitzonyim (outside forces) have no control over him.
All his demons fly away. The longer a person stays under water the more he weakens them.
* Saying shemah before going to sleep not only rectifies his sins it also protects a person
from the sexual demons while sleeping.
* There are a number of references including the double edged sward, the sixty warriors
and the whole yoshev bisaser... have these kavanos.
* If one wakes up at night and feels demons around say impure ones, impure ones leave
now three times. Also try to wash and say over the first verse of shema.
*
*
also
*

One should do hisbodidute, pray spontaneously to G-D

This should be done every day on any subject, however one who was pogem should
pray to G-D to forgive him and destroy the demons he created.
If one can, he should try to cry as he prays.

* An important kavanah for tikun habris is done in the amida.

* When one reaches the blessing about the dispersed of yisroel have in mind to gather
all the sparks of holiness that you sent into the klipah.
* Taking the second last letters of the words ychad marba knfos forms the divine name
Chet Bais Vav (do not pournounce it).
* Meditate on this name and pray that the damage you made be rectified.
* Kanfos also has the gimatryah (numerical equivalence) of tikun.
* Like any other sin the biggest rectification is to stop other people from committing the
same sin.
* Try to get other people to stop, do it in a way that wont embarrass anyone.
* When you try to stop and rectify your sins there will be crazy opposition from the sitra
achrah, demons dont enjoy being killed. Be strong.
* If you start then mess up dont worry, start again. Never give up.
