OFFICIAL RULES

Please read these Official Rules before entering the Whats the Strangest Thing in Your Library Contest
(the Contest), sponsored by The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, a division of Random House LLC
(the Sponsor).
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN. VOID OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES
AND WHERE OTHERWISE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
ELIGIBILITY:
This Contest is open to legal residents of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) age 18 years or older at
time of entry and who have a valid email account and mailing address. All federal, state, and local
regulations apply. Employees of Sponsor, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, and agencies, and
their immediate family members and persons living in their household are not eligible to enter the Contest.
ENTRY PERIOD: This Contest runs from 3:01 P.M. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on November 18, 2014
to 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on December 1, 2014.
HOW TO ENTER:
Email entry online: Entrants must take a photo of the strangest thing in their library and email to
library@randomhouse.com to enter.
Entrants are encouraged to also share their photographs on social media using the hashtag, #strangelibrary,
but such activity is not required to gain access to the Contest and such posts will not be counted as entries
unless they have also been emailed to library@randomhouse.com.
Entry must be the original work of the Entrant, may not have been previously published, may not have won
previous awards, and may not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other
intellectual property or other rights of any person and must not violate any law.
The Sponsor is not responsible for lost/late/misdirected entries or computer malfunctions. Entries that
contain errors, are incomplete, or corrupted will not be accepted. The Sponsor reserves the right to
disqualify entries received from anyone tampering with the Contest entry process. The Sponsor assumes no
responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission,
communications line failure, theft, destruction, or unauthorized access to email. In the event of a dispute,
entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of
entry. The authorized account holder is deemed the natural person who is assigned to an email address by
an Internet access provider, service provider or other online organization that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Automated entries are
prohibited, and any use of automated devices will result in disqualification.
PRIZE:
One (1) Winner will receive a complete set of Haruki Murakamis backlist and new book, The Strange
Library. Approximate retail value of prize package $300.00.
WINNER SELECTION:
On or about December 16, 2014, one (1) Winner will be selected from all eligible entries received by the
entry deadline by the Sponsor or its designees whose decisions will be final, based on: 1) originality,
creativity, and uniqueness of the photograph. The decisions of the Sponsor will be final. The odds of
winning depend on how many eligible entries have been submitted by the entry deadline.

Winner must complete a form identifying which public, academic, or school lending library shall receive
the prize, including contact information and mailing address. Sponsor will ship Prize to the library.
Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Entry for any reason, in its sole and final discretion.
Sponsor will notify Winner by email. Winner must respond to email notification within 48 hours of receipt.
The failure to respond timely to the notification may result in forfeiture of the Prize. If a winner notification
of the Prize is returned as undeliverable, or if a Winner or Finalist fails to timely respond to the notification
or declines the Prize, the Prize will be awarded to an alternate Winner or Finalist, as determined by the
Sponsor, from among the remaining entries.
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
By participating in this Contest, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules. Sponsor is not responsible
for injury or damage to any computer, other equipment, or person relating to or resulting from participation
in the Contest. Entrants release Sponsor, its agencies, and assigns from any liability, damage and/or loss
resulting from participating in this Contest and/or the acceptance, use or misuse of the prize. Acceptance of
the prize constitutes permission for Sponsor to publish, post online, or otherwise refer to the name of the
Finalists and Grand Prize Winner in any and all forms and media throughout the world, and for any and all
publicity or promotional purposes, without obligation or compensation, except where prohibited by law.
ASSIGNMENT OF RIGHTS:
Entrants hereby acknowledges that Entry and all other materials of every kind whatsoever created by
Entrant relating to the Contest (collectively, the Work) are a work made for hire (as that term is used in
the United States Copyright Act) for Sponsor, and assigns to Sponsor (or, if any applicable law prohibits or
restricts such assignment, Entrant hereby grants to Sponsor an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free,
transferable license of) limited right, title and interest in and to such Work, including, without limitation, all
rights of every kind and nature (whether now known or hereafter devised, including all copyrights therein
and thereto and all renewals and extensions thereof), throughout the universe, in perpetuity, for all
purposes, in any and all media, whether now known or hereafter devised. By submitting an Entry, Entrant
acknowledges and agrees that Sponsor may obtain many submissions under this Contest and that such
entries may be similar or identical in theme, idea, format or other respects to others submitted under this
Contest and/or other contests staged and/or sponsored by the Sponsor, and waive any and all claims
contestant may have had, may have, and/or may have in the future, that any composition, design, video
and/or other works accepted, reviewed and/or used by the Sponsor (or its respective designees) may be
similar to his/her Entry. Entrant acknowledges and agrees that the Sponsor does not have now, nor shall
any of them have in the future, any duty or liability, direct or indirect, vicarious, contributory, or otherwise,
with respect to the infringement or protection of any copyright in and to Entrantss Entry.
WINNER LIST:
For the name of the Winner, available after January 1, 2014, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to
Knopfs Whats the Strangest Thing in Your Library Contest, attn: Katherine Burns, Random House LLC,
1745 Broadway, New York, NY 10019 by June 1, 2014.
