Answer the following Questions:
1) Marine pollution is: “ Introduction by man, directly or indirectly, of
substances into the marine environment resulting in such deleterious effects
as harm to living resources, hazard to human health, hindrance to marine
activities and reduction of amenities”.
Explain and state the different sources of marine pollution.
2) “ MARPOL"” is the last international convention to deal with the problem of
reducing and controlling marine pollution. State the high lights of this
convention, showing the different discharging criterions of harmful
substances from ships.
3) Explain the different method to fight an oil spell at sea.Alexandria University

1- An oil tanker has the following particulars L = 120 m , B = 19.6 m, D = 10.5 m,
8.4 m, cargo tank length = 12.0 m. the center tank is full with cargo crude oil,
density = 0.96 tm’.
The wing tank is partially loaded to a height of 7.4 m from b:

Thickness of side shell plating = 16 mm -Thickness of long BHD plating = 11 mm.
Make all necessary assumptions to Calculate
1- The local stresses in a bottom longitudinal in the center tank
2- The secondary stresses in the flanges of the middle horizontal girder of the long.

‘The maximum shear stress in the web.
iv- The torsion constant of the section
3- The ship section shown in fig. is subjected to a clockwise torque of 50 tm and a
vertical shear force of 400 t. Calculate:
the maximum shear stress in the side shell plating due to the vertical shear force
The torsion constant of the ship section
the angle of twist 6 of the ship section
ii- The torsion stress in:
1. Side shell plating
2. Deck plating
3. Tank top plating
