VENICE....HOW IT WORK'S

The edges of the islands are cladded with bricks so

that the land is not stolen away by the sea water.over
the years the brick cladding becomes less water
resistant and are restored by isolating and constructing
the whole canal section as the salt water disintegrates
the bricks.

Venice lies in the middle of a lagoon its not

actually a sea but an expensive shallow
waters separated from the sea by thin strips
of land. the lagoon drains and fills up again
with new sea water twice a day through the
three inlets.venice didn't grow out of a centre
but because of a series of settlement that
combined into one.

Venice
is
an
ancient city but it is
also a modern city.
It needs electricity , water , telephone
and gas services.These lines runs
under the paving stones and are
transferred from one island to the with
the help of bridges.

BRIDGES

There are 438 bridges in

venice.They are crucial to
pedestrian circulation because
they connect various islands
of which the city is composed.

BUILDINGS
Venician buildings are famous worldwide for
their beauty and sophistication. In little more
than a thousand year venicians have
developed a series of techniques for their
buildings that are well adapted to the
enviroment.

PLAN
The basic plan of the building is based upon a typical
residence of a merchant family. The ground floor serves
as a warehouse, where merchandise was bought and
sold. The living place at the first floor called as portego
served as a formal space and the attic floor under the
roof held apartment to the surface.
Life and work took place on the boats. That's why the
main facade of the buildings faced the canals. Many
cases buildings had more than three floor but the basic
scheme remained the same. The portego which was
often richly decorated occupied the entire length of the
building.

FOUNDATION

The floor where connected by the ingenious system of double staircases.this way the
servant and family had two separate entrances and two in-dependant circulation
system.several crossover points make it possible to switch from one system to the
others.
