Description :
SiO2:gelatin = 16,5:1 suhu operasi 270oC, yaitu sebesar 13,21 m2/gr.

Description Alt:
This research shows the influences of operation temperature condition and adding gelatin as template to particle
characteristics including surface area, and pore volume in synthesis of porous silica particles by spray drying method.
The synthesis of porous silica particles is made by several treatment. The precursor, i.e silica sol, was prepared by
passing sodium silicate through H+ ion exchanger, then added gelatin solution until the SiO2 : gelatin ratios are 33:1,
16,5:1, 11:1, 8,26:1. The silica sol was atomized to form droplets using twin-fluid noozle. The droplets were carried by
air with velocity of 45,48 L/min (STP) into the heated reactor. The experiment was carried out in hot wall tubular reactor
made of stainless steel. The reactor has 3,8 cm in diameter and 150 cm in height, equipped with temperature controller,
aerosol generator and particle collector. There was 2 zones at the reactor, zone 1 was constant temperature at 120oC to

evaporate water, zone 2 was varied from 150 to 270 oC to evaporate gelatin. The particles formed were collected in a
particle collector that consist of many baffles to deposit them. The particles formed were analyzed by BET Nitrogen
Adsorbtion and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
Particles were in fine powder formed with white color. The results are showed that particles diameter, surface area and
pore volume progressively increases by decreasing of SiO2:gelatin ratio in various of temperature, and also increase the
state of agglomeration. Surface area and pore volume rogressively increases by increasing
temperature of zone 2, and diameter particles will decreased. The average morphology is spherical and some of in
hollow (doughnut). The range of average particles diameter median were 46 m. The average surface area was
gotten in < 10 m2/gr, with the highest surface area was from SiO2:gelatin ratio 16,5:1, operating temperature of 270oC,
was 13,21 m2/gr. The range of average particles diameter median were 46 m. The average pore volume was
gotten in < 0,005 m3/g.molecule, with the highest pore volume was from SiO2:gelatin ratio 16,5:1, operating
temperature of 270oC, was 0,00671 cm3/g.molecule. Calcination was the alternative process to increased the porosity of
silica particle.
