To Achieve AC1.1, learners need to explain the link


between strategic management and leadership. Learners
need to use examples to explain the links between
functions, with particular emphasis on meeting strategic
objectives.
To Achieve AC1.2, learners can draw on their own practices 1
as managers/leaders, using examples from their
organisations or a suitable case study to analyse the
impact of different management and leadership styles on
strategic decisions. This can be developed to evaluate how
these styles have been adapted to meet challenges in at
least two different situations and organisational contexts
for AC1.3.
To Achieve AC 2.1and 2.2, learners need to apply theory to
specific situations and create a realistic leadership
strategy. They need to review a range of management and
leadership theories and models, with the emphasis on
current thinking. Learners do not need to use lots of
different theories to demonstrate wide-ranging knowledge,
but should draw on two or three relevant theories to
illustrate understanding in the context of the selected
organisation.

Read the attached case study Being Apple: Steve Jobs and attempt the following tasks below.

Describe how and to what extent does Steve Jobs career illuminate the difference between
management and leadership?
Task 2 (LO2: AC 2.1, 2.2)
A) Explain how can Steve Jobs leadership style be analysed? To what extent does the evidence so
far conform to the Burns model of transformational leadership?
B) Jobs career has been in two industries that are characterised by rapid market change, fast
technological development and considerable turbulence. Critically examine the extent to which
these situational factors bear upon the leadership style that Jobs has shown over the years.
C) Define what are the new changes that took place because of Steve Jobs contribution to Apple?

A) Demonstrate how much is the contribution of planning in the development of a leader and how
can you apply that in your daily life to improve your personal abilities and competencies level?
