4

Paiges home and her Models Inc. Office are searched

Sunday, July 1, 2007, Paiges car is discovered on fire
Monday, July 2, 2007, Criminal Investigations Section is assigned to the case

5. On 06/30/07 Investigator Danny Norris and Sergeant Art Smith contacted Verizon Wireless
and requested cellular phone records for Paiges phones #970-216-7460 and #970-778-0024
due to exigent circumstances of trying to locate Paige. Investigator Norris was provided a list of
all incoming and outgoing phone calls for both of Paiges phones for 06/28/07 through
06/30/07 and cell site tower information for the last 5 calls. In reviewing those records, Inv.
Norris and Sgt. Smith confirmed the named calls to and/or from Howard Beigler, Robert Dixon,
and Jess Dixon.
6. The cell site towers for the last five calls indicate Paiges phone moving from the Glenwood
Springs area, to Parachute, to DeBeque, then to Grand Junction with the last call hitting off a
tower located off 22 and River Road.
7. Investigator Lissah Norcross obtained phone records relating to the following individuals
during this investigation:
Paige Dixon
Howard Beigler
George Coralluzzo (Sarzosa/Clampit)
Robert Dixon
Motel 6 (John Livingston)
Timothy Zotto
Joseph Carruth
Lester Jones (personal cell)
Lester Jones (Tracfone)
8. At about 2158 hours on 07/01/07, Grand Junction Fire Department and Police Department
were dispatched to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot at 727 23 Road, the Walker SMS
manufacturing business. Upon arrival, it was found the interior of the vehicle was on fire.
There were no license plates on the vehicle at the time of the fire. When the vehicle
identification number was checked by GJPD officers through 911 dispatch, they learned the
vehicle was registered to Paige Dixon on a 2005 Red Ford sedan. No human remains were
located inside the burned vehicle.
9. Paige Dixons vehicle, a red 2005 Ford Focus, was processed by the Colorado Bureau of
Investigation and the Mesa County Sheriffs Office. Items collected from the vehicle included
womens clothing (jean shorts, panties, halter top, and shoes), a Pampered Chef booklet, a day
planner, business cards, and a picnic basket. The day planner was examined by Investigator
Mike Piechota. The day planner was water logged, but not burned. Inv. Piechota discovered
that several pages had been removed from the day planner. These pages were for June 26th,
June 27th, June 28th, and June 29th, 2007.
5

10. Fire Investigators determined the fire was set intentionally and that an accelerant was
used. Burnt debris from Paige Dixons vehicle was analyzed by Agent Matt Saluto with the
Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Agent Salutos laboratory report, dated 08/10/07, states that
analysis on the burnt debris disclosed the presence of an ignitable liquid(s) from the gasoline
class, which includes all brands and grades of gasoline, including gasohol, and some types of
camp fuels.
11. In a subsequent search of Paige Birgfelds vehicle, Investigators placed a woman who is 54
(same height as Paige Dixon) in the drivers side seat, which had not been moved since the
vehicle fire. This person could not reach the gas or brake pedal, even when stretching.
Investigators have confirmed with all fire personnel that they did not move the car seat back or
forward when dealing with the fire or search of the vehicle.
12. On 07/02/07 Michael Young (DOB: 09/21/71) met with Investigator Scott Ehlers, reporting
he found a check and two deposit slips printed with Paige Dixons name. Michael was en-route
to Grand Junction on Highway 50 from Montrose, pulling a trailer. Michael pulled over to check
the tires on the trailer and when he did, he saw the check and deposit slips on the ground.
Michael stated he pulled over at a turnout located at the top of the big hill just south of Kannah
Creek and Bean Ranch Rd. Inv. Ehlers later located and collected 20 personal checks which
were torn out of the checkbook and scattered, belonging to Paige Dixon from Western Rockies
Federal Credit Union, along with two deposit slips and 1 check book backing, south of
Whitewater on Highway 50 between mile marker 46 & 47.
13. On 07/16/07 a search was conducted along Highway 50 in the area of Whitewater.
Numerous items connected to Paige Birgfeld were found and collected, including 89 Models
Inc. Business cards and 33 Pampered Chef business cards. Also collected in the same area were
various gift cards (Wal Mart, Starbucks, Hobby Lobby, Michaels), a green latex glove, a dollar
bill, and a $20 dollar bill. On 12/02/08, Bridge Inspectors with the Colorado Department of
Transportation found Paige Birgfelds drivers license along Highway 50, just south of mile
marker 51, near the northbound guard rail. (Note: Mile Marker 51 is about 1 mile north of
Bridgeport Road). These items were scattered around at different locations as if they had not
been thrown to the ground together.
14. On March 6, 2012, human skeletal remains were discovered by hikers in an area of north
Delta County known as Wells Gulch. The skeletal remains, including a skull and mandible, were
found partially exposed in sediment at the bottom of a dry creek bed. The scene was
processed by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Delta County Sheriffs Office, and Mesa
County Sheriffs Office. On March 7, 2012 the skull and mandible were transported to the
office of John Bull in Grand Junction. Dr. Bull, a forensic odontologist, compared known dental
records of Paige Birgfeld to the teeth in the skull and mandible and made a positive
identification. CBI later confirmed the identity by developing a DNA profile from a molar tooth
extracted from the mandible.

15. The skeletal remains were examined by the Mesa County Coroner, Dr. Dean Havlik, and Dr.
Diane France with the Human Identification Laboratory of Colorado. Dr. France is a forensic
anthropologist. In her report, Dr. France states the cranium exhibits a fracture of the right
zygomatic and a fracture of a portion of the left nasal bone. She describes the injury as
perimortem (at or about time of death). Dr. Havlik indicated this was a non-fatal injury. Dr.
Havlik ruled the manner of death a homicide with an undetermined cause of death.
16. On 03/25/12 Investigators from the Mesa County Sheriffs Office conducted a second
search of the Wells Gulch area for additional remains and evidence in this case. Approximately
18 additional human bones were collected during this search, some of which were found more
than a mile downstream from the original site. Inv. Lisssah Norcross informed me she had
checked the mileage from Walker SMS to the pull-off area on Wells Gulch Road near Paiges
skeletal remains. She advised the distance between those two locations is approximately 30
miles.
Investigation into Howard Beigler
17. At about 1045 hours on 06/30/07 Mesa County Sheriffs Deputy Charlie Gechter and
Deputy Peter Schimek were assigned to a phone report of a missing person. Deputy Gechter
spoke with Howard Beigler (DOB: 01/08/70) who resides in the metro Denver, Colorado area.
Beigler reported that his ex-wife, Paige Dixon (DOB: 04/27/73), had not been seen or heard
from since about 2100 hours on 06/28/07. (A CCIC check of drivers license information found
Paige Dixon currently uses the name Paige Birgfeld but most people referred to her as Paige
Dixon during this investigation).
18. Beigler said Paige Dixon lives at 2512 Oleaster Court, Mesa County, Colorado, and has two
cellular phones, #970-778-0024 and #970-216-7460 both with Verizon Wireless. Beigler said he
and Paige met for a picnic in Eagle, Colorado, from about 1300 until 1900 on 06/28/07. He
stated that after their picnic, he drove back to Denver and he saw Paige drive her car onto west
bound I-70 towards Grand Junction. Beigler stated he spoke with Paige by telephone at about
2100 hours on 06/28/07 and she told him she was back in Grand Junction at that time. Beigler
said he has not seen or heard from Paige since that time.
19. Beigler stated that Paige runs an adult entertainment business and she told him on
06/28/07 that she needed to see a client after their picnic, prior to returning to her home.
Beigler said Paige told him she needed to meet with the client because she had made the client
wait all day. Beigler stated that Paiges business phone had been ringing all day.
20. Beigler said Paige Dixon uses the name Carrie with her clients and is the sole employee of
the business. Beigler also stated that Paige had told him about an incident last month in which
she had been leaving her business office when a male in a white truck blocked her as she was
trying to leave. Beigler only knew that Paiges office was near the airport in Grand Junction and
had Acupuncture on the door. Beigler said Paige told him she was able to get around the
white truck, but it scared her. Beigler advised he had tried to call Paige several times since
2100 hours on 06/28/07 but she had not answered either of her phones. Beigler advised he
7

called Paiges home but had been told by her children that Paige had not returned home.
Beigler stated he has no idea where Paige can be found and felt that was very unusual.
21. Inv. Scott Ehlers interviewed Howard Beigler in person on 07/12/07. Beigler stated he and
Paige were married in 1995 but were engaged for about two or three years before that. They
were married for about two years. He indicated the marriage ended because Paige was working
as a stripper and had met Rob Dixon. Beigler said after he and Paige were divorced, they did
not talk to one another for several years but recently began seeing each other again. Beigler
said Paige had told him about domestic violence during her marriage to Rob Dixon. She told
Beigler that she was afraid of Rob Dixon and afraid about him moving back to Colorado.
22. Beigler said Paige started in the escort business by working for someone else and then
started her own escort business, Models Inc. He estimated she had been doing this for a little
over five years. He said Paige advertises on Craigs List and some type of escort web site.
Beigler said Paige was the only person working for Models Inc. He described hearing Paige
answer her business phone and pretending to be a secretary. Beigler said Paige would make
the caller believe she had all types of women available, when actually it was only her. He said
Paige did have one woman that was at least fifty years, and a younger woman, that she
occasionally sent out.
23. Beigler indicated Paige didnt believe she needed an escort (for security) when she went on
these calls because she had done it so long she thought the clients were harmless. Beigler said
he and Paige had talked about this and Paige didnt think anything would happen. He added
that Paige knew something could happen, but she thought she could talk her way out of it. Inv.
Ehlers asked what Paige was wearing when they met in Eagle on 06/28/07. Beigler said she was
wearing denim type shorts, adding they were not cut off shorts but nice shorts. She was also
wearing a multi-colored tube top, and open toed sandals. Beigler said he and Paige spent
about six hours together in Eagle on 06/28/07. Paige told him she had received about 30 calls
that day and most of the calls were from the same number. After they left Eagle, he didnt
speak to Paige again until he reached the Denver area. He confirmed that last time they spoke
was at about 9:00 p.m. and Paige told him she was in Grand Junction. Beigler assumed Paige
was going home but he believes she told him she was going to see someone and probably two.
He believed Paige may have been getting ready to meet with a client when they were talking.
Beigler said he knows Paige would have changed clothes before she met with the client and
would have changed again before she went home. He said Paige carries a bag with her, but he
couldnt describe the bag and wasnt sure if Paige had the bag that day.
24. Inv. Ehlers asked if Paige had any clients she was concerned about harming her. Beigler said
the only time she was scared was when the truck tried to block her in. He said the only weird
incident she mentioned was with a guy on Wednesday (06/27/07). Paige talked about a guy
that had come to a pool party for all the kids on her sons soccer team. One of the dads who
came to the party had asked her out on a date and Paige said no. Paige described having a
session with this male subject on 06/27/07, indicating she didnt recognize him at first. Paige
told Beigler this subjects demeanor changed when he found out who she was. Paige told him
8

this subject got close to her and said How about I just fuck you now. (Note: This subject was
later identified as Joseph Carruth).
25. Inv. Ehlers asked if Paige told him where she was when he last spoke to her. Beigler said
no. Inv. Ehlers asked if Paige mentioned what the traffic was like. Beigler remembered that
Paige told him they had shut down the road because of an accident and she had to take an
alternate route. Beigler said Paige mentioned how much of a pain in the ass it is that Grand
Junction Police shuts down the road every time there is an accident.
26. Based on phone records, when Paige was talking to Howard Beigler at 2057 hours, her cell
phone was hitting the cell phone tower at 22 and River Road, which is near the intersection
of 23 Road and G Road. Investigation revealed that on 06/28/07, between the hours of
approximately 1800 hours and 2203 hours, the intersection of 23 Road and G Road was closed
by the Grand Junction Police Department due to a traffic accident and traffic was re-routed.
After checking with the Colorado State Patrol, Grand Junction Police, and Mesa County Sheriffs
Office, Investigator Norcross learned there were no other accidents on this date that involved
re-routing traffic.
27. The investigation shows that Howard Beigler was the last known person to speak to Paige
Birgfeld at 2057 hours on 06/28/07. The following is a timeline based on phone records and

Investigation into Robert Dixon
29. On 06/30/2007, Paige Dixons 8 year old daughter, Jess Dixon, arrived at the front counter
of the Mesa County Sheriffs Office to report her mother missing. Jess was accompanied by her
Spanish only speaking nanny, Nubia Martinez (DOB: 02/07/85). Jess advised Sgt. Todd
Sorenson on 06/30/07 that her mother, Paige Dixon, left from their residence of 2512 Oleaster
Ct., at approximately 1030 hours on Thursday 06/28/07 for "work" in Glenwood Springs, CO.
Jess said she had not seen her mother since she left on Thursday, 06/28/07, at approximately
1030 hours but spoke to her on the phone on Thursday (06/28/07) at approximately 2030 hrs.
Jess indicated her mother told her during that conversation she was "leaving" and was on her
way home. Jess believed her mother was leaving Glenwood Springs at that time and would be
home shortly.

10

30. Jess told Sgt. Sorenson that while she was talking to her mother, her mother advised she
was on the other line with Jesss father, Robert Dixon (DOB: 05/14/69). According to Jess, her
mother advised Robert Dixon wanted to get together and talk with the family. Jess said she
spoke with her mother about one minute, then hung up and immediately called her father,
Robert Dixon. Jess advised she got through to her father right away and spoke to him for
approximately two minutes. Jess said she believes her father is in Philadelphia, PA. Jess
indicated she didnt want her father to know her mother is missing because she thought he
would be mad at her mother.
32. On Sunday, 07/01/07, at about 1155 hours, Investigator Danny Norris spoke by phone with
Robert Dixon. Robert Dixon is Paige Dixons most recent ex-husband. Mr. Dixon indicated that
Paiges father, Frank Birgfeld, had informed him that morning that Paige was missing. Mr.
Dixon advised that he was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at his residence, stating he and Paige
have been separated since March, 2006. He told Investigator Norris he found out that Paige
had an escort service and that was the reason for their divorce. Mr. Dixon said when he found
out what she was doing, Paige freaked out, and he was charged with Domestic Violence. He
denied any physical contact between him and Paige during this incident.
33. Mr. Dixon confirmed he spoke with Paige on 06/28/07 in the evening while he was trying to
speak with his children. Mr. Dixon said he frequently calls Paiges phone to speak with his
children in the evening. He advised that Paige told him she was on her way home from a
Pampered Chef party in Glenwood Springs. Mr. Dixon said that was the last time he spoke to
Paige and he had no idea where Paige was. Mr. Dixon said he recently got a new job with TriState Care Flight in Durango, Colorado. He had planned to move on Thursday (07/05/07) but
would be leaving Pennsylvania to respond to Grand Junction that day (07/01/07), due to this
situation.
34. Mr. Dixon told Investigator Norris that, sometime last year, he received a call from one of
Paiges former associates by the name of Ambrosia. Ambrosia told him that she and Paige
had some kind of financial problem, which prompted Ambrosia to call him. Mr. Dixon said
Paige had several ads in newspapers and various websites, including naughtynitelife.com and
another on escorts.com. Mr. Dixon said Paige uses the alias Carrie on these sights. Mr. Dixon
stated he recently called Ambrosia to find names of Paiges recent associates and where she
had her in call locations. He said the only place he was aware of was an office on Horizon
Drive. Mr. Dixon indicated he was seeking information about Paige because he was attempting
to gain custody of his children.
11

35. Mr. Dixon said he had spoken to Ambrosia prior to this conversation with Inv. Norris. Mr.
Dixon said he called Ambrosia to tell her Paige was missing and to find out what she knew. He
said Ambrosia told him Paige probably got her throat slit on an out call or she ran off with a
rich guy. Mr. Dixon told Investigator Norris that Paige would not have left without her children.
Mr. Dixon gave Ambrosias phone number as (970)314-7111.
36. On 07/02/07 I interviewed Gail Collinsworth (DOB: 05/05/75), AKA Ambrosia, AKA Gail
MacClellan, AKA Gail Lapena. Gail stated she had previously worked with Paige through
Pampered Chef and an escort service, Models Inc. Gail said she hasnt spoken to Paige in
over a year. Gail confirmed that she knew Paiges ex-husband, Rob Dixon, and said he left a
message on her phone on Saturday (06/29/07). She said Rob Dixon sounded frantic and
wanted to know if she had seen Paige or knew where she might be. Gail indicated she spoke to
Rob Dixon later the same day and told him she didnt know where Paige was.
37. Robert Dixon was interviewed in person at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office on 07/03/07 by
Inv. Beverly Jarrell and Inv. Scott Ehlers. Dixon indicated he was getting ready to start a new job
in Durango, Colorado at the time Paige went missing. He gave his home address as 2914 Poplar
St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his cell phone number of 267-614-9145. Dixon said he had
been working for the Chester Crozer Hospital as a paramedic and the last day he worked was on
Friday 06/29/07. Dixon said the last time he saw Paige was when she and the children came to
visit him in Philadelphia in May of 2007. He indicated Paige had won a trip through Pampered
Chef and made arrangement to go through Philadelphia so he could see their children. Paige
and the children arrived on the 3rd and left on the morning of the 6th and stayed at his
residence. Dixon said everything seemed to be ok at that time.
38. Dixon said the last time he spoke to Paige was on Thursday (06/28/07) and thought it was
around 11:00 p.m. Philadelphia time and 9:00 p.m. Colorado time. Paige told him she was on
her way home, but did not say from where. He said Paige had mentioned she was doing
something in Glenwood Springs when he spoke to her on Wednesday. Dixon said he also talked
to Paige earlier in the day on Thursday (06/28/07), estimating it was about 7:00 p.m.
Philadelphia time. Inv. Jarrell asked what Paige was talking about and if he heard any
background noise. Dixon said the call seemed noisier than usual and she may have had the
window down. He said Paige seemed to be in good spirits and they talked about Paige taking
the kids to Moab for the fourth of July.
39. Dixon denied having anything to do with Paiges disappearance. He provided the names of
friends he had been with the previous Saturday; Dave Levasseur and Robert Pipero. He also
gave the name of Ray Birkmire, who helped him pack up on Sunday to come to Colorado. He
gave the Investigators his work schedule, stating he worked June 23rd through the 25th, was
off the 26th and 27th, and worked on June 28th and June 29th.
40. Investigator Ehlers interviewed David Levasseur (DOB: 06/11/76) on 08/03/07. David gave
his address as 3400 Red Lion Road in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. David said he has known Rob
12

Dixon for about one year and they worked together at Crozer Medical Center. David stated he
was an ambulance driver and Rob Dixon was a paramedic. He indicated they also socialized
outside of work. Inv. Ehlers asked if he had seen or spoken to Rob during the week of June
23rd, 2007. David said yes, he spoke to Rob on Friday the 27th at around 1845 hours to confirm
that he was going to help Rob move furniture. David stated he did meet with Rob at around
100 hours on the 28th. He said that Robert Piparo was also there helping Rob move. (Note:
June 27th, 2007 was a Wednesday and June 28th was Thursday).
41. Also on 08/03/07 Inv. Ehlers interviewed Robert Piparo (DOB: 07/27/82), who lives in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Piparo stated he met Rob Dixon about a year ago when they both
worked at a flight service for Thomas Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia. He said Rob
quit that job around the end of January 2007. When asked, Piparo said he remembered helping
Rob Dixon move. He thought it was the weekend of June 27th or June 28th, which would have
been on Friday or Saturday, but he didnt remember which day it was. He also spoke to Rob
Dixon the day before he helped him move. Piparo stated he and Dave Levasseur helped Rob
move out and some of the furniture went to Davids residence. (Note: As with David
Levasseur, Robert Piparo indicates the weekend he helped Rob Dixon move was 06/27/07 or
06/28/07).
42. Inv. Norcross later determined from phone records that Rob Dixons cell phone usage
between 06/28/07 through the afternoon of 07/01/07 hit off cell towers in the Pennsylvania
area. During the evening of 07/01/07, the cell tower locations for his phone move in a westerly
direction from Pennsylvania, to Ohio, and to Illinois.
43. Inv. Ehlers received a printout from Crozer-Keystone in Philadelphia of Robert Dixons
employee profile and EMS work schedule. The schedule indicates that Dixon worked a 12
hour shift on 06/28/07, from 0700 hours to 1930 hours. He also worked on 06/29/07 from
0700 hours to 1900 hours, a 12 hour shift.
44. I spoke by phone to Ray Birkmire (DOB: 12/14/74) on 10/27/14. I asked if anyone had
contacted him about this case in 2007 and he said no. Ray confirmed he was a friend of Rob
Dixon and said they worked together in 2007 at Jeffstat Flight Transport in Philadelphia. Ray
thought he was working with Rob on the day he got the call from his ex-father in law (Frank
Birgfeld) advising that Paige was missing. He said Rob started making plans to travel to
Colorado and Ray was helping him get ready. He didnt remember if he was helping Rob cover
his shifts or exactly what they were doing, but he was trying to help Rob so he could leave for
Colorado. Ray said when Rob and his children moved back to Philadelphia, they stayed with
him for about five or six months. Ray remembered that Rob and his ex-wife used to have
heated battles over the phone but he didnt know what they argued about. I asked if Rob left
the same day he got the call about Paige being missing. Ray said no, indicating he thought Rob
got the call on a Thursday or Friday when they were at work and thought he left a day or so
later.

45. On 07/02/07 Investigator Lissah Norcross obtained a court order (07SW173) for cell phone
records for both phones used by Paige Dixon. She also requested access to Paiges voice
messages for both of her known cellular phones. Those numbers are 970-216-7460 (Models
Inc.) and 970-778-0024 (personal cell phone). On Paiges personal phone Inv. Norcross found
over 20 messages and several from what sounded to be her children and friends calling trying
to find her. A female who gives her name as Carol left messages on both phones discussing
money, wondering how Eagle was, and concern about her disappearance and Rob Dixon.
46. The investigation revealed Carol was Carolyn Linderholm (DOB: 09/13/50) and she was
interviewed by Investigator Pete Burg on 07/04/07. Carol stated she was a good friend of Paige
Dixons and worked with her in the adult entertainment business, going by the name Gail.
Carol stated that she last spoke to Paige on Wednesday (06/27/07) at about 2330 hours by
telephone. Paige told Carol during that conversation that she (Paige) was going to Eagle the
next day (Thursday, 06/28/07) to meet with her first ex-husband. Carol knew the ex-husbands
last name is Beigler. Carol said she knew Rob (Dixon) would be upset when Paige was not home,
adding that Rob probably knew Paige had been seeing her first husband again.
47. Based on phone records, Inv. Norcross found routine daily calls between Paige and Rob
Dixon prior to June 28, 2007. The following phone records and tower information are for
Thursday, June 28, 2007:
1722 hours, Robert Dixon calls Paige, to voice mail
Dixon tower location: Chester, Pennsylvania
1942 hours, Dixon calls Paige
Paige tower location: Glenwood Springs
Dixon tower: Darby, PA
48. The investigation found no evidence that Robert Dixon was involved in Paiges
disappearance or murder.
Investigation into Timothy Zotto
50. The records disclosed 13 phone calls to Paiges business cell phone (970-216-7460) from
#970-433-7177. The records also indicated a return call from Paiges phone to #970-433-7177
at about 2013 hours on 06/28/07. Inv. Norris checked the MCSO Spillman files and found that
number showed to be a Verizon Cellular phone registered to James Clampit (DOB: 08/19/60).
Three other phone numbers were revealed on Paiges business phone from the Verizon
Wireless records:
14

1. 970-243-2628, later identified as the number for Motel 6.

2. 970-523-7192, listed to P.L. Zotto at 510 Coronado Court in Clifton, Co.
3. 970-208-7660, later determined to be a Tracfone serviced by Cingular Wireless
51. I contacted Timothy Zotto (DOB: 11/03/79) at 510 Coronado Court in Clifton, based on his
phone number appearing on Paige Dixons phone records for 06/28/07. Zotto admitted calling
the Models Inc. number after seeing it in the paper. He said he was curious about the price and
denied meeting anyone from Models Inc. During a subsequent conversation with Investigator
Pete Burg and Investigator Tim Henderson on 07/26/07, Zotto stated he is on probation and
wears an ankle monitor. He said he has not been away from home during evening hours since
leaving his job at Star Tech several weeks ago. Zotto said his probation officer is Darcy Cady and
the ankle monitor officer is Amy Loffreda. Investigator Burg contacted Amy Loffreda who
advised that Zotto was in compliance during the time frame of 06/27/07 to 07/03/07. She said
he only left his apartment twice during that time frame. The first time was on 06/29/07 from
1340 to 1604 hours when he was documented at a temporary job service and at the probation
office. The second time was on 07/02/07, from 1737 to 1923, when he was at his alcohol class.
Based on this information, Zotto was at home on the day Paige disappeared and the day her car
was burned.
52. The following phone records are related to Timothy Zotto for Thursday, June 28, 2007.
1531 hours, Zotto calls Paige, to voicemail
2008 hours, Paige calls Zotto home phone
Paige tower location: Parachute
53. The investigation found no evidence that Timothy Zotto was involved in Paiges
disappearance or murder.
Investigation into John Livingston
54. Inv. Norcross obtained access and reviewed all of the saved or un-retrieved voice mails.
Voice mails that would have been deleted by Paige are not saved by the company and thus
were not available. Inv. Norcross first checked voicemails for 970-216-7460 (Models Inc). She
found the outgoing message for this phone is a female voice identifying the number as Models
Inc., Colorado premier gentlemans club. Inv. Norcross found one saved voicemail and 36
unheard voicemails. The majority of voicemails are from males requesting to meet a female for
services. Some males leave a name; others only leave a return phone number. The single saved
voicemail is from a male who identifies himself as Bobby and discusses how he is looking for a
job with the service. She checked the date and time stamps for all voicemails. Bobbys saved
message is from 2334 hours on 06/22/07.
55. There was one unheard message on 06/28/07 from John at Motel 6, room #237. In this
message John states, I was just checking to see if you had somebody coming out or not. Thank
you. The rest of the messages were left between 06/29/07 and 07/01/07.

15

56. Sgt. Art Smith checked the guest registry for Motel 6 and found John Livingston stayed in
room 237 on 06/28/07 (Refer to paragraphs 18 & 29). MCSO records showed a John Livingston
(DOB: 10/12/63), with an address of 251 Nashua Ct. in Grand Junction. Further investigation
revealed that Livingston was employed at Walker SMS in Fruita, Colorado. On 07/03/07
Investigator Pete Burg and I contacted John Livingston (DOB: 10/12/63) at Walker SMS, 544
East Cleveland in Fruita, where he is employed. He agreed to accompany us to the Mesa
County Sheriffs Office when we asked to speak with him regarding the disappearance of Paige
Birgfeld. Livingston told us he didnt know anything about a missing woman. Livingstons
vehicle, a gray 1988 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was seized and towed to the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office, where it was subsequently searched.
57. During the interview at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office, Livingston admitted calling an
escort service from the Motel 6 on 06/28/07. When he was shown a photo of Paige Birgfeld,
Livingston said she looked a little like Samantha but didnt think it was the same person.
Livingston said he lives with a rancher in Gateway but during the week he either sleeps in his
truck or at a motel. I showed him the Motel 6 register for June 28, 2007 and he admitted
spending the night there. Initially he told us he did call an escort service and had received a
massage from Samantha on Thursday.
58. Later in the interview, Livingston stated he was mixed up on his days and it was not last
Thursday (June 28) but the Thursday before (June 21) that Samantha came to his room at Motel
6. He confirmed that he stayed at the Motel 6 on June 28th, and called the escort service
number, but said no one ever came to his room. Livingston said he called the number where he
had previously arranged for Samantha, but no one was available. Livingston stated he then
called an escort service he thought was called Models Inc. at a 216 number. His call went to an
answering machine and he left a message. He said that later on a lady called and told him
shed send somebody to the Motel, but no one ever showed up. Livingston estimated he spoke
to this lady (from the escort service) at around 2000 hours. Livingston added, Because I said
like 9 or 10, have somebody come out between 9 and 10. Livingston said no one ever showed
up and he didnt meet with an escort that night.
59. After the interview with John Livingston, I spoke to Samantha by phone and then
interviewed her at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office. Samantha gave her real name as Crystal
Tabor (DOB: 08/07/78). When questioned about John Livingston, Samantha/Crystal confirmed
she had given him a massage at the Motel 6 a couple of weeks ago. I asked if it could have
been the previous Thursday, June 28 and she said no.
60. Phone records indicate the following calls were made between Paige and John Livingston at
Motel 6 on June 28, 2007:
1838 hours, Motel 6 (Livingston) calls Paige, to voicemail
1939 hours, Motel 6 (Livingston) calls Paige
Paige tower location: Glenwood Springs
1944 hours, Motel 6 (Livingston) calls Paige, to voicemail
2010 hours, Paige calls Motel 6 (Livingston)
16

Paige tower location: Parachute

2224 hours, Motel 6 (Livingston) calls Paige work cell, to voicemail
61. The investigation shows that Howard Beigler was the last known person to speak to Paige
Birgfeld at 2057 hours on 06/28/07. Calls to Paiges phone began going to voice mail at 2121
hours. John Livingston stated that he spoke to someone from Models Inc., (Paige Birgfeld), and
made an appointment for an escort to come to Motel 6 between 2100 and 2200 hours. When
no one arrived, Livingston called the Models Inc. phone at 2224 hours and his call went to voice
mail. The investigation found no evidence that John Livingston was involved in Paiges
disappearance or murder.
Investigation into Steven Heald
62. On 07/02/07 Sgt. Josh Warner contacted Steven Heald (DOB: 10/07/50) after Heald
contacted 911 dispatch and requested to speak to a Deputy. Heald told Sgt. Warner that he
had heard from an employee that Paige Dixon was missing. Heald said he was concerned
because Paige was a business associate of his company. Heald told Sgt. Warner he had lunch
with Paige on June 26th, 2007 at Red Lobster in Grand Junction. During a conversation that
day, Paige told Heald that her ex would be traveling through town on his way to Durango,
where he had a job as a paramedic. Heald said he was aware that Paige was in the adult
entertainment business. When he asked if she ever was afraid of people she met in that
business, Paige had told Heald, No more than Im afraid of my ex-husband.
63. On 08/08/07 Investigator Jarrell interviewed Steven Heald at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. Heald gave his home address as 727 Grand in Delta, Colorado. Heald stated he was the
director of land development for Sonshine II Construction, but the name of the building was
Blue Star Industries. (Blue Star Industries is located at 2350 G Road in Grand Junction). Heald
said Paige Dixon approached the company about selling Pampered Chef Products, which they
would give as gifts to customers who bought homes from them. He stated that in order for
Paige to become a vendor, she had to fill out paperwork to get into their accounting system in
order to receive checks. He said Paige became a vendor in June 2006 and a month or two later,
approached them about doing other work. He said that initially Paige proposed cleaning new
construction houses and they gave her some miscellaneous odd jobs. She had a couple of
cleaning jobs and then got involved in sealing concrete, doing this at several job sites. He
estimated Paige had done 10 or 11 jobs for the company, which included the Pampered Chef
products, between June 2006 and her disappearance. She was paid anywhere from $700 to
$1000 dollars for the Pampered Chef products, depending on the order. Heald indicated Paige
talked about her children constantly and also that she was fearful of her ex-husband, Rob
Dixon.
64. When asked if he knew about Paiges escort service, Heald replied, Later on, I did. Initially I
did not. Heald said he called a phone number Paige provided in her paperwork and got a
recording that said something about a Gentlemens Service. He asked Paige about it and she
told him she was running a dating service. Later she told him she was doing massages as a side
business. He asked if she was fearful of that business and Paige had told him, No, not as afraid
17

of that as I am of my ex-husband. Heald stated he chose to continue using her because

Paige was providing exceptional service for them. Heald estimated he found out about Paiges
other business in March or April of 2007. Investigator Jarrell asked if he ever used her service.
Heald replied, No. She asked if he knew of anyone else who used her service and he again
said no. He was not aware of anyone from his office using her services.
65. Heald talked about going to lunch with Paige two days before she disappeared. He thought
this was on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Paige had called and told him she had an issue she wanted
to discuss with him. When they met for lunch that day, Paige told him she had recently
completed a refinance on her house and determined that she had paid for an appraisal twice
and was having trouble getting the money back from the appraiser. Paige didnt identify the
appraiser. She asked Heald for advice on how she should handle the situation, and he gave her
some suggestions.
66. Heald described his reason for contacting the Sheriffs Office after Paiges disappearance.
He said as they were leaving the restaurant that day, Paige asked what he had planned for the
4th of July, which was the following week. Heald told her he was going to Denver to visit his
grandchildren. Paige told him that she was scheduled to go to Moab on the fourth but her exhusband was due in on Sunday. She added that her ex-husband, drove like a bat out of hell,
and that meant hed probably be there on Thursday and she hoped he didnt screw up her
plans. Moments later Heald stated, The day shes verbalizing that he may be here is the day
she goes missing. When asked why Paige was fearful of Rob Dixon, he said Paige described
him as threatening. Paige indicated when her ex-husband didnt get his way, he was
belligerent and obnoxious. Heald had no further contact with Paige after their lunch date on
the 26th. Heald provided several pages of documentation, including Paiges application packet
and records for the most recent payment to Paige, which he stated was June 19th. When asked
if there were any checks issued to Paige that havent cleared, he said no. Referring to the
documents, he stated the last check issued was for $1239 dollars and it has cleared.
Investigator Jarrell asked Heald if he believed Paige was alive. After a pause he stated, I wish
she was but I honestly dont believe she is.
67. Steven Heald was interviewed a second time on 08/14/07 by Investigator Jarell and Sgt.
Wayne Weyler. At the beginning of this interview, Heald stated he had not been truthful during
his first interview the week before. Heald stated he was in prison from 1994 to 1999 and then
got out and went to Community Corrections in Durango, Colorado. He met Paige Dixon while in
Community Corrections and became involved with her sexually. The relationship ended and he
didnt see Paige again until 2004 or 2005. Heald stated Paige re-contacted him at that time
because she saw in the newspaper that he was facing criminal charges. He said they did not
resume their relationship at that time, but Paige contacted him again in either 2005 or early
2006 and they had a sexual relationship again.
68. Heald stated that later in 2006 Paige approached him about Pampered Chef products and
asked him to speak to his boss (John Davis). He said Paige wanted to continue the sexual
relationship but now it would cost money. Heald said he wasnt willing to do that, but Paige
18

told him she had pictures of their sexual relationship in 2005 that she would us against him in
his criminal case or show to his wife. Heald said he agreed to pay for things that were
illegitimate, and in retrospect, he should have just told his wife. Heald said Paige originally
asked him to give her $50,000.00 to keep her mouth shut, but he didnt have that much money.
Heald paid Paige $1500.00 and thought that would continue until the amount totaled
$50,000.00. When Sgt. Weyler pointed out that he had a motive to harm Paige, Heald denied
hurting her or paying someone to hurt her. Heald stated he was shocked when Paige went
missing.
69. Heald said when he heard Paige was missing he went to his boss John Davis and disclosed
that they (the company) had a legitimate business relationship with Paige. Heald said he
wanted everyone to believe it was a business relationship because he did not want to be
considered a suspect. Since her disappearance, Heald said he has been trying to show the lost
expenses were for legitimate purposes. John began looking at the expenses and determined
they were not all legitimate and confronted Heald last week. Heald said when John confronted
him, he told John the truth. Heald said he was very scared when John began looking at the
money. Heald indicated he looked at the situation and said to himself, I have a motive and that
scared me. Heald thought he was relieved that Paige was missing because the financial
obligation was gone. Heald said over a 14 month period, he paid Paige about $16000.00 and
only about $3500.00 was for Pampered Chef products. He said Paige would submit an invoice
and he would authorize a payment. The invoices ranged from $250.00 up to $2700.00. Heald
denied continuing the sexual relationship and said he never asked her to produce the
photographs.
70. Inv. Jarrell asked where he was at the time Paige disappeared. Heald said he was in the
office on Thursday, 06/28/07, from 0630 hours until 1400 hours. He was with his wife all night
Thursday, from about 1700 hours, and his wife left about 0600 hours on Friday morning
(06/29/07) for Albuquerque. Heald said he had a court appearance Friday morning at 0900
hours and then he was in his office the rest of the day on Friday. He was in Aurora with his
stepdaughter and grandson on Saturday, 06/30/07. He described getting a traffic ticket in Clear
Creek County at about 1030 hours on Saturday. He returned to Delta on Sunday evening. Heald
said he spent Sunday night with his wife. He stated his wife would verify that he was with her
Thursday night and Sunday night, when Paiges car was found.
71. Later in the interview, Sgt. Weyler told Heald he didnt believe he was being honest about
the blackmail and it was time for him to tell the whole truth. Heald finally admitted he was
paying Paige for sex. He said it was different amounts, sometimes $250.00, $600.00, $1200.00,
and the biggest payment was for $2700.00. Heald said for $250.00 he received a hand job and
sexual intercourse would cost him $1000.00. Heald said he didnt pay her for sex in Durango but
did when he was in Grand Junction. Heald stated he had sex with her well over 10 times in
Grand Junction. Sgt. Weyler asked when he last had sex with Paige. Heald said it was on June
20th, the week before Paige went missing. Heald indicated that he and Paige had gone to many
different motels to have sex, but it never happened at her home. Heald said he did go to her
residence once to deliver a check, but he did not go in and had never been inside her home.
19

Heald said he was concerned that his wife would be very upset with him because she does not
know he was paying for sex. Heald maintained that he had nothing to do with Paiges
disappearance.
72. On 08/14/07 Sgt. Smith and Inv. Norcross interviewed Steven Healds wife, Bonnie
Thompson, at her therapy/counseling office in Delta, Colorado. Ms. Thompson appeared
surprised by the presence of the Investigators and Inv. Norcross explained it was about her
husband's scheduled meeting with Investigators that same day at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. Ms. Heald confirmed that Steven Heald is her husband but she did not know about any
meeting. Ms. Thompson indicated she knew about the Paige Birgfeld case, but was unaware
that her husband had been interviewed. Inv. Norcross asked if she was aware that Steven knew
Paige Birgfeld. Ms. Thompson said during news reports, Steven told her he knew Paige Birgfeld
through his business. Steven told her that Paige sold Pampered Chef items to the company to
provide to clients. When asked, Ms. Thompson said neither she nor her husband had socialized
with Paige Birgfeld outside of the work environment.
73. Ms. Thompson was asked if she and/or Steven had taken any out of area trips in the last
few months. She stated that she personally had to go to visit her ailing parents in Albuquerque,
New Mexico recently, but did not remember the exact date of the trip. Ms. Thompson said she
knew she drove to Albuquerque on a Friday and returned prior to sunset on Sunday. Ms.
Thompson expressed concern and stated that, due to her profession, she could clearly tell from
the questioning there was something she didnt know. Ms. Thompson stated she had no idea
why Investigators would be speaking to her husband. Inv. Norcross explained that Steven
admitted being one of Ms. Birgfelds escort service clients and admitted his theft of monies
from Mr. Davis business to pay for the services. Inv. Norcross noted that Ms. Thompson was
obviously visibly upset and surprised by this information.
74. Ms. Thompson checked her day planner and confirmed that her trip to Albuquerque was
the same weekend as Paiges disappearance, 06/28/07 07/01/07. Ms. Thompson said she
purchased gas in Albuquerque on a credit card and would most likely have a receipt at home to
verify the date. On 08/15/07 Ms. Thompson faxed a copy of that receipt to Inv. Norcross. The
receipt indicates the gas purchase in Albuquerque was on 06/30/07. Inv. Norcross asked if she
recalled what she and Steven did on the evening prior to her trip. Ms. Thompson said to the
best of her recollection, they were both home all night and she packed for her trip. She said she
left for the trip at about 0600 hours on 06/29/07. Ms. Thompson didnt remember the exact
time she returned home on Sunday (07/01/07) but knew it was before dark. She said Steven
was home when she arrived and they stayed home together all night
75. Investigator Norcross determined from phone records that prior to June 28, 2007 the
following calls were made to and/or from Paiges business phone (970)216-7460:

8 calls to/from Steven Heald prior to June 25, 2007

1 call from Heald on June 26, 2007

20

76. There were no calls between Paige and Steven Heald on June 28, 2007. The investigation
found no evidence that Steven Heald was involved in Paiges disappearance or murder.

Investigation into Mark Holkum

77. On 07/07/07 Investigator Norcross received an anonymous tip that Mark Holkum at phone
number 210-0660 had hired Paige Dixon and may have information about this case.
Investigator Norcross spoke to Mark Holkum by phone. Holkum admitted he had used the
adult entertainment service before and he believed Ms. Dixon, AKA Carrie, had provided his
massage. Holkum would not go into detail concerning his interaction with Carrie, but said he
thought she was pretty and was pleased with the service. Holkum said he saw her photograph
in the news and recognized Ms. Dixon as the woman he knows as Carrie. Holkum said he does
not know Ms. Dixons whereabouts or what has occurred to her. Holkum refused to provide
the spelling of his name, date of birth, address, or further contact information.
78. During an interview with Inv. Burg on 07/12/07, Carol Linderholm described one of Paiges
clients who also worked for Paige. Carol said Paige referred to this male subject as Mister Ego
and said he lived in a subdivision in Fruita. Carol described him as about 604 inches tall, short
blonde hair, in his mid-thirties, and said he has an Aryan look. Carol said he owed Paige
$100.00 and she sent Carol to his house to attempt to collect the money. This subject refused
to pay and was mad because Paige would not give him sex. Carol indicated that Mr. Ego
helped Paige with a bachelorette party about six months ago. She said Paige and Mr. Ego had
a complicated arrangement as she would hire him, then date him, then charge him as an escort.
79. Carol Linderholm told Inv. Burg that, according to Paige, this subject had an arsenal of
guns and a pile of cocaine the last time she saw him, which was last winter. Carol said
sometime in the fall, the man had been arrested while on a date with Paige. She said they were
having dinner on Main Street and Paige was his escort. During their date, the man got drunk
and then got into a fight. Carol told Investigator Burg she would attempt to find the address for
this man and later advised that his address is 569 Hemlock in Fruita. She thought the mans
name may be Mark. By researching the Mesa County Assessors website and Spillman records
at the Sheriffs Office, Mark was identified as Mark Holkum (DOB: 04/27/58).
80. Investigator Danny Norris went to 569 Hemlock Drive on 07/17/07 and attempted to
contact Mark Holkum. Holkum was not home but Investigator Norris spoke to two neighbors,
both of whom described Holkum owning a white truck and two motorcycles. A subsequent
search of DMV records by Investigator Jarrell on 05/08/08 showed that Mark Holkum owned a
white 2008 Fork pickup truck.
81. On 08/04/07 Investigator Norcross interviewed Mark Holkum at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. Holkum confirmed he was a client of Ms. Birgfelds escort service. He knew Paige
Birgfeld by the name Carrie and had used her services about 4 times. Holkum said he first
called Ms. Birgfelds service on the evening of October Fest in Grand Junction. He described
21

calling the phone number, provided by a friend, and set up a meeting with Carrie at her office
across from the Harley Davidson shop off Horizon Drive that night. He said Carrie provided
him with a nude massage and they had sex. He said this cost him $600.00 and he was there for
about 30-45 minutes. The second time he called, Carrie came to his home in Fruita. Holkum
stated again this cost him $600.00 for a massage and sex.
82. The third time Holkum used Carries services was for a date at a Christmas party at Boomers
Bar in downtown Grand Junction. He gave Carrie about $800.00 that night. Holkum said he
anticipated the date ending with sex at his home, however a fight started and when he tried to
break it up, the police arrived and he got arrested. Holkum said he had $3600.00 cash in his
pocket that night and after he got a summons and was released, discovered he only had
$1100.00. Holkum believed the police took his money and not Carrie. He said Carrie left when
he got arrested, which he thought made sense.
83. Holkum said the last time he called the service was about 4-5 weeks after the Christmas
party. Carrie came to his home and he gave her about $150.00 at the door for a nude massage
and sex. Once she was inside, Carrie told him the prices had gone up and he would need to pay
her an additional $800.00 for the usual massage/sex. Holkum said he told her she was already
too high priced and that was too much. Carrie then left and no services were provided.
Holkum said he has not used her services since that time and has not seen her. Mr. Holkum
said Carrie was always alone. Inv. Norcross asked if he was upset with Carrie for either leaving
him at the Christmas party or for the price increase. Holkum said no. He denied having any
direct knowledge about what happened to Carrie and denied killing her. From reviewing phone
records, Inv. Norcross determined there were two calls from Mark Holkums cell phone to
Paiges business phone; one on 06/09/07 and one 06/30/07. Both of these calls went to
voicemail. The investigation found no evidence that Mark Holkum was involved in Paiges
disappearance or murder.
Investigation into Joseph Carruth
84. On 01/27/09 Investigator Jarrell and Sgt. Henry Stoffel interviewed Joseph Carruth (DOB:
10/30/71) at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office. Carruth stated he knew Paige Birgfeld because
their children played soccer together. He described going to a soccer party at Paiges residence
and said he later asked her out because he knew she wasnt married. He said Paige declined
but told him she was honored that he would ask. Carruth said that was the only contact he
ever had with Paige, and he didnt know about her other life, until he placed a call to an escort
service. He described calling one of the escort services from his personal/business cell phone
(260-6695). (Cell phone records indicate Carruth called Paiges business phone at 2043 hours
on 06/27/07.)
85. Carruth said the person who arrived for the rub was Paige Birgfeld. When he opened the
door, he immediately recognized her and called her by name. He said Paiges facial expression
initially appeared plastic but after a while, their conversation and interaction returned. When
asked how much he paid her, Carruth recalled throwing her two hundred, adding it was
worth it for Paige to take off her clothes. Carruth stated that Paige asked him that night to
22

consider dancing for her at parties, of which she had a fairly large one coming up. Carruth said
he called Paige back the next day (06/28/07) and declined her offer for him to provide male
dancing for her business. He thought they only left voice mails back and forth, but then stated it
was a long time ago and could not remember for certain. Carruth said he did not see Paige
again after that night. When he was shown the cell phone call log records, Carruth did not
dispute the number of times he called Paige.
86. Investigator Norcross determined from phone records that there were three calls between
Paige and Joseph Carruth on June 27, 2007. The following calls were made to and/or from
Paiges business phone (970)216-7460 on June 28, 2007 involving Carruth:
1124 hours, Paige calls Carruth
Paige tower location: Debeque
1128 hours, Carruth calls Paige, to voicemail
Paige tower location: Parachute
1246 hours, Carruth calls Paige, to voicemail
Paige tower location: 426 East 3rd Street, Eagle
1251 hours, Paige calls Carruth
Paige tower location: 426 East 3rd Street, Eagle
1253 hours, Paige calls Carruth (twice)
Paige tower location: 426 East 3rd Street, Eagle
1255 hours, Carruth calls Paige
Paige tower location: 426 East 3rd Street, Eagle
87. The investigation found no evidence that Joseph Carruth was involved in Paiges
disappearance or murder.
Investigation into George Coralluzzo
88. The phone records disclosed 13 phone calls to Paiges business cell phone (970-216-7460)
from #970-433-7177. The records also indicated a return call from Paiges phone to #970-4337177 at about 2013 hours on 06/28/07. Inv. Norris checked the MCSO Spillman files and found
that number showed to be a Verizon Cellular phone registered to James Clampit (DOB:
08/19/60).
89. Inv. Norris and Sgt. Smith interviewed James Clampit at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office on
07/01/07. Clampit and his wife, Marilyn Sarzosa, live at 541 29 Road in Grand Junction.
Clampit stated a friend named George had used his phone recently to make a series of phone
calls. Further investigation found George Samuel Coralluzzo (DOB: 09/24/77) who matched a
description given by Clampit in the MCSO Spillman name files. Clampit was shown a
photograph of Coralluzzo and identified that as his friend George.
90. While Clampit was being interviewed at the Sheriffs Office on 07/01/07, Sgt. Smith left the
interview room and called Marilyn Sarzosa (01/18/55) on the phone. Sgt. Smith asked if she
and James had a friend by the name of George. Marilyn said George was an acquaintance they
knew through James work. Sgt. Smith asked if she had seen George recently. She stated that
23

George had been there on either Tuesday or Wednesday (06/26/07 or 06/27/07) to vent
because his brother, his brothers wife, and his brothers two children had been killed in a car
accident. Sarzosa confirmed that George had used their phone on the day his brother died.
She stated George did not drive home that night because he was too drunk. Sarzosa stated she
had given George a ride to an apartment behind Hastings but she couldnt remember which
apartment it was. She said the next day Georges truck was gone, although she had not seen
him, leading her to believe he had come and gotten his truck.
91. On 07/01/07 Sgt. Smith checked for vehicles registered to George Coralluzzo and found a
black Toyota truck listed at 312 27 3/8 Road in Grand Junction and a white truck listed at 421
Comstock Drive in Fruita. Sgt. Smith and Inv. Norris responded to 421 Comstock Drive and
contacted the homeowners, Tim and Megan Hoffmann. The Hoffmanns advised that Coralluzzo
is a part owner of a painting business they own, Pro Touch Painting. Meghan said Coralluzzo
was in New Jersey and had told them his brother, and his brothers family, died in a car accident
Thursday night. Inv. Norris asked when they last saw Coralluzzo. Meghan said she made a
flight reservation for George and he left for New Jersey on Saturday (06/30/07) at 1300 hours.
She said he was scheduled to return from New Jersey on 07/07/07. Meghan said she bought
Georges plane tickets for him through Orbitz.com. She told George to park his truck, a Black
Toyota Tacoma, in the US Airport parking lot and explained that George had never flown
before. Meghan said they could not reach George because his girlfriend Tracy Adamson had his
phone. Meghan and Tim Hoffman said the best way to speak with George was to call Tracy.
92. Tim and Meghan Hoffman described George Coralluzzos activities for the prior week. They
said George worked in Copper on Monday, June 25th. They said the axle on their work truck
broke, so they had to pick George up. Meghan said the truck was still in the shop because of the
broken drive shaft. They said George worked Tuesday and Wednesday, but did not show up
Thursday. Tim said George gave them the excuse he couldnt work because his family had died.
Meghan added that George had called them at about 1700 hours on Thursday, but wouldnt tell
them where he was or the number he was calling from. Meghan said they next spoke to
George on Friday because she had booked a flight for him to New Jersey. The Hoffmans said
they met George for dinner Friday night (06/29/07) at Texas Road House. She said George had
purchased a pre-paid cell phone at Wal-Mart on Friday to take with him to New Jersey.
Meghan said she did not know the number for that phone because George had not yet
activated it.
93. Meghan stated that George lived at 842 White Avenue with a couple guys. She said George
had a friend named Jose he spent a great amount of time with. Meghan said when they cant
get a hold of George, its because hes with Jose. Tim Hoffman said George had fallen off the
wagon and was drinking a lot and he also suspected George was using drugs. Meghan said
George has only shown up for work two or three days a week for the last four weeks. Sgt. Smith
spoke again to Tim Hoffman on 07/03/07. Tim said he had called George Coralluzzo and
confronted him about lying to them. Tim said George admitted lying about his brother being
killed. He said George told him something had happened (which caused him to leave town) but
he wasnt going to discuss it with him. He said ultimately, Coralluzzo said he had lied about his
24

brother dying as an excuse to go home and visit relatives in New Jersey, saying Hoffman would
not have allowed him to take the time off otherwise. Tim said when they were having dinner
with George at Texas Roadhouse, (on 06/29/07) George was crying. When he confronted
George and asked why he had been crying, George offered no excuse. Tim said George told
him he had been at his friend Joses house, drinking, on both Wednesday and Thursday night
(June 27 and June 28, 2007). Tim told Coralluzzo the police wanted to talk to him and asked
what that was about. He said Coralluzzo replied that he had no idea why the police would want
to talk to him, saying he had done nothing wrong.
94. On 07/02/07 Sgt. Art Smith and Lt. Dick Dillon contacted George Coralluzzos girlfriend,
Tracy Adamson. She told them George had gone to New Jersey because his brother and
brothers wife were killed in a car accident there. She told them George lived on White Ave,
but didnt know the address. Adamson said George told her about his brother and wife on
Thurday (06/28/07) at about 1300 hours. George called her around 2300 or midnight on
Thursday 06/28/07 saying she needed to come pick him up. George was at his friend Joses
house and was too drunk to drive home. Adamson said when she picked him up in the parking
lot of the apartment complex, George was upset and drunk. She drove back to her apartment
and they went to sleep. She said Georges black Toyota pickup was parked in Joses apartment
complex. She stated they slept in on Friday (06/29/07) and she was with him until they went to
Wal-Mart and dinner with Georges business partners. Tracy stated she last spoke to George by
phone on the morning of 07/01/07. She allowed Sgt. Smith to view the caller ID on her phone.
He saw that at 2107 hours on 06/30/07 and 0910 hours on 07/01/07 she received calls from
(609)247-9193, listed to Nico Coralluzzo. (Note: 609 is a New Jersey area code). Tracy stated
she believed that was Georges sister and that was the number George had called her from.
95. During a conversation with Sgt. Smith on 07/04/07, Tracy said she had reviewed her caller
ID and found she had been wrong about the times. She stated George called her from Joses
girlfriends number at 2304 hours to tell her he was okay. George then called Tracy at 0031
hours (early Friday 06/29/07) from 234-0398, which she knew to be the cell number of Joses
girlfriend, to pick him up. Tracy got to the parking lot of the apartment complex at 0045 and
used her cell to call Joses girlfriends phone to tell George she was in the parking lot, waiting for
him.
96. On 07/02/14 Sgt. Smith contacted the Adams County Sheriffs Office and requested that
they send a Deputy to USA Parking at Denver International Airport to search for George
Coralluzzos black Toyota Pickup. He later received a phone call from Deputy Bailey with Adams
County SO, advising he had located Coralluzzos truck at USA Parking. The truck was seized and
towed to the Adams County Substation in Commerce City. A search warrant was obtained and
the truck was processed on 07/05/07 by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. One of the
items collected from inside Coralluzzos pickup was a US Airport parking ticket, stamped on
06/30/07 at 11:07.
97. On 07/04/07 Investigators Beverly Jarrell and Scott Ehlers traveled to New Jersey and
contacted George Coralluzzo. Coralluzzo agreed to an interview at the Millville Police
25

Department which took place on 07/05/07. Coralluzzo gave his present address as 842 White
Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado. Coralluzzo said he and Tim Hoffman started a painting
business in April 2006 and indicated they are equal partners in the business. Coralluzzo said his
business relationship with Tim is not good and he doesnt think the business will last, adding he
just wants to wash his hands of it. Coralluzzo admitted making a number of phone calls to
Models Inc. from his cell phone and from the phone at the residence of Sonny and Marilyn
who were identified as James Clampit and Marilyn Sarzosa. He denied meeting with anyone
from Models Inc. and denied having any involvement in Paige Dixons disappearance. He also
admitted lying to his business partner because he wanted a vacation and stated he had
obtained a passport recently for an upcoming trip to Italy.
98. Coralluzzo stated he worked in Copper Mountain the previous Monday and Tuesday (June
25th and June 26th) with two other subjects who were illegal and spoke no English. He only
knew one of them by the first name of Gabe and didnt the other subjects name. Coralluzzo
said Gabe told him about an escort he used to see during the time he was working on oil rigs
and making more money. Gabe told him he paid this escort $1500.00 to see her for four hours.
Coralluzzo said on the way home, he found a business card for Models Inc. that Gabe left in his
truck. Coralluzzo said he tried calling the number, but the call didnt go through.
99. Coralluzzo described his activity between Wednesday, 06/27/07, and Saturday, 06/30/07.
He stated that he spent Wednesday night (06/27/07) at Sonny and Marilyns apartment.
Investigator Ehlers determined, based on Coralluzzos description, that James Clampit and
Marilyn Sarzosa (Sonny & Marilyn) live at 541 29 Road in Grand Junction. Coralluzzo said they
live in apartment #151. Coralluzzo said he left Sonny and Marilyns on Thursday morning
(06/28/07) and drove to the area where the Models Inc. office was located. He said it was on
Horizon Drive behind a Harley shop. Coralluzzo said when he called Models Inc. a girl
answered the phone and told him it was hard to find unless they sent someone out to meet
him. Coralluzzo said he did not meet with anyone.
100. Coralluzzo said he returned to Sonny and Marilyns and stayed there until 1800 or 1900
Thursday night. He said Marilyn (Sarzosa) dropped him off at Joses apartment. He said Joses
apartment is behind Hobby Lobby. Coralluzzo described drinking while he was at Joses and his
girlfriend, Tracy Adamson, picked him up from Joses because he was not capable of driving. He
said he had no idea how long he was at Joses apartment. When Tracy picked him up, she
drove Coralluzzo to her residence where he slept it off. He said the next day (Friday
06/29/07) he went and got a ticket through Meghan Hoffman because she is very good with the
computer. He spent the day running errands and paying bills, then went out to dinner with Tim
and Meghan Foster at the Texas Road House. After dinner they all went to Wal-Mart and
George bought clothes for his trip. When asked if he bought anything else, George said he
didnt think so, but then admitted buying a cell phone. He indicated the reason for buying a
new cell phone was that the plan was cheaper than his other cell phone. Coralluzzo said he
drove to Denver where he caught his flight to New Jersey, arriving at about 0100 hours (Sunday
07/01/07).
26

101. Coralluzzo agreed to take a polygraph that was conducted the same day after his
interview with Inv. Ehlers and Inv. Jarell. The polygraph was administered by Sgt. Paul Valles
with the New Jersey State Police. During the pre-test interview, Coralluzzo said while he was at
Sonny and Marilyns on Wednesday night and Thursday (06/27/07 and 06/28/07) they drank 23 cases of beer and were smoking some coke. He repeated that Marilyn gave him a ride to
his friend Joses residence. Coralluzzo stated, I stayed over there (at Joses) and I tell him I
need to go pick up my truck. He said they stopped and saw one of their friends in the parking
lot at Wal Mart before picking up his truck. After picking up his truck, they went back to Joses
where George drank some more. He called his girl (Tracy Adamson) to come and get him and
he slept at her house all night (Thursday night). He repeated what he had told Inv. Jarrell and
Inv. Ehlers about his activities on Friday and Saturday (06/29/07 and 06/30/07).
102. George Coralluzzos friend Jose was identified as Jose Tavera. His wife, Melinda Meyer,
was interviewed by Inv. Robin Martin on 07/04/07 while Jose Tavera was being interviewed by
another investigator. Melinda said she lives with Jose Tavera at 2601 Belford Ave., apartment
#72, in Grand Junction. Melinda stated that on the afternoon of Thursday, June 28, 2007 she
had taken Jose to St. Marys Hospital because he was having stomach pain. Melindas cousin,
Chantele Leir, lives with them and watched Melinda and Joses children while they were at the
hospital. Melinda said her sister, Kristy Spry, met them at the hospital. Melinda said when they
left the hospital, they went to City Market on North Avenue to fill a prescription and buy some
food. They went home from City Market, arriving at about 2100 hours. Melinda stated George
arrived at their residence about 15-30 minutes later.
103. Melinda did not recall Georges last name, but said it started with a C. Melinda did not
know how George got there. She said George asked for a ride to go get his truck. Melinda, Jose,
George, and Kristy drove to get Georges truck at Parkside Apartments. (This was later
determined to be Poolside Apartments, 541 29 Road, where James Clampit and Marilyn
Sarzosa reside.) Melinda stated that Jose drove Georges truck with George in the passenger
seat. From there they returned to Melinda and Joses residence and hung out for a while.
Melinda stated she was in & out of her bedroom that evening and George eventually called his
girlfriend (Tracy Adamson) to pick him up. Melinda didnt remember if it was Jose or George,
but one of them told her Tracy was on her way to pick him up. She estimated this was before
0001 hours as she normally goes to sleep before 2300. Melinda said Tracy came to the
apartment by herself and Melinda walked them out. She said Tracy took George home.
Melinda stated that night George had told them about his family being in an accident in New
Jersey.
104. In her report summarizing this interview with Melinda Meyer on 07/04/07, Inv. Martin
notes that she was advised to end the interview with Melinda as Joses interview had ended.
When this case was re-assigned in January 2011, it was discovered that apparently no report
was ever done of the interview with Jose Tavera and no audio or video recording has been
found.

27

105. Investigator Lissah Norcross obtained phone records of Paige Dixon, and George
Coralluzzo (Sarzosa/Clampit). Investigator Norcross determined from phone records that prior

107. On 09/05/08 Deputy Joe Crawford interviewed Sherri Guinn (DOB: 05/03/73) at the Mesa
County Detention Facility, where she was incarcerated on an unrelated case. Guinn said that
on the night of Paige's disappearance, she was contacted by a subject by the name of George.
She did not know his last name but said George was a person investigators had interviewed
concerning Paige Dixon. Guinn said George had contacted her and her husband, John Dunlap,
on the night of Paiges disappearance and asked to borrow one of their trucks. She told Deputy
Crawford that George has his own truck and there was no reason for him to borrow one of
28

theirs and they refused to loan him a truck. She also said George was one of Paige Dixons
clients. She said George is known to be friends with a male subject by the name of Jose. She
did not know Jose's last name, but said he had burn marks on his forearms. She also said
George knows a female by the name of Tracy Adamson and that Adamson lied to law
enforcement about Georges alibi. Guinn said Tracy Adamson is John Dunlap's ex -wife.
108. On 04/27/11 Investigator Ehlers interviewed John Dunlap (DOB: 09/06/68) regarding the
information provided by Sherri Guinn on 09/05/08. Dunlap indicated he and Sherri Guinn were
no longer together. Dunlap met George Coralluzzo, who had just got out of prison, and was
attending AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings. Dunlap has a daughter, Harley, with Tracy
Adamson. Tracy and Harley had moved to Grand Junction from Texas and were staying with
him even though he and Tracy were not together. After Dunlap met George Coralluzzo at the
meetings, Tracy and Coralluzzo started dating. Dunlap said it wasn't long after that that Sherri
started doing meth again and they (Dunlap and Guinn) eventually split up. Dunlap described
bizarre behavior by Sherri when she was using meth, which was also about the same time that
Paige Dixon disappeared. He stated Sherri called the police to relate hearsay information
because she had been watching too many crime scene investigation movies. Dunlap said Sherri
was angry at Tracy Adamson and she told the police that Tracy was trying to hide evidence for
George.
109. Dunlap said about the same time that Paige went missing, George showed up around two
or three in the morning wanting to borrow one of Dunlaps pickups. Dunlap indicated he
couldnt remember if George actually showed up, or had called asking to borrow a truck.
Dunlap said George was doing well and had a brand new Chevrolet truck. George told Dunlap is
truck broke down; that the rear end had blown up, and he needed the truck to finish a big job.
Dunlap said he told George he wasn't going to let him use his truck. Dunlap indicated that
George Coralluzzo wanted to borrow the truck at around the same time that Paige disappeared.
Dunlap thought it was weird that this guy, who he hadnt talked to in months, would show up
in the middle of the night wanting to borrow his truck.
110. On 04/03/12 Investigator Blake McClellan and Investigator Scott Ehlers interviewed Tracy
Adamson (DOB: 11/26/78) at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office. They advised Tracy that the
reason for the interview was to follow up on allegations that she lied to provide an alibi for
George Coralluzzo during her initial interviews in 2007. Tracy denied lying for George or hiding
any evidence in this case. Inv. McClellan asked if she remembered if there was anything wrong
with Georges truck at that time that would have prevented him from driving it. Tracy stated
only his intoxication would have prevented him from driving it. Inv. McClellan asked if she was
aware of George asking John Dunlap and Sherri Guinn if he could borrow their truck. Tracy
stated she remembered being told that George had asked to borrow a vehicle, but didnt know
why he would want to borrow a vehicle. Tracy said when George was drinking he was very
bizarre. Tracy didnt know why George had lied about his brother dying, but stated he lied
about everything. Tracy said she didnt know it at the time, but in hind sight she now knows he
lied about everything.
29

111. Inv. McClellan reviewed with Tracy what she had told investigators in 2007 and stressed
the importance of being honest now, if she had lied in her earlier interview. Tracy repeated
that George Coralluzzo had lied to her and she was being honest now and had been honest
then. She stated she was telling everything, and had even believed herself that George was
guilty due to him taking off at that time. She said George never told her anything to indicate
that he was involved in Paiges disappearance. Inv. McClellan asked if there was anything that
he had not asked that she thought would be important to tell him. Tracy hesitated for a
moment and then stated she talked to Georges mother's boyfriend, Lee, and she asked him
about "it. Tracy said Lee told her about a fight he had with George when George was drunk.
112. On 04/02/12 Investigator Ehlers learned that George Coralluzzo had died in New Jersey.
Via Internet searches, Inv. Ehlers located news stories from August 17, 2011 that described
Coralluzzos body being found in the Maurice River in Millville, New Jersey. Inv. Ehlers
contacted the New Jersey State Police and on 05/17/12 received a report from Detective Sgt.
Darrin Pullman of the investigation into George Coralluzzos death. According to this report,
Coralluzzos death was caused by drowning and the manner of death was undetermined. The
report documents that Coralluzzos blood alcohol level was 0.239. The report concludes that
the investigation did not yield any evidence or circumstances that suggested criminal activity
led to Coralluzzos death.
113. I interviewed Kristy Spry, Melinda Meyers sister, on 05/23/12. I told Kristy that during
her interview in 2007, Melinda stated that Kristy was present when George Coralluzzo came
over (to Melinda and Joses apartment). Kristy pointed out that I was asking about something
that happened 5 years ago and said she has trouble with her memory. Kristy said she knew
who George was and that she had partied with him a few times, including at Jose and
Melindas apartment. Kristy did not remember going with Melinda and Jose to pick up Georges
truck at Poolside Apartment complex.
114. On 05/30/12 I interviewed Chantele Leir (DOB: 05/09/91) who is Melinda Meyers cousin.
Chantele confirmed that she had lived with Melinda and Jose Tavera and often babysat their
children. Chantele said she was interviewed back then at Melinda & Joses apartment by two
Investigators who were looking for George Coralluzzo. She said this was a day or two after Paige
went missing. Chantele said she was friends with both George Coralluzzo and Paige Birgfeld,
indicating she and Paige both sold Pampered Chef products. Chantele did not believe George
and Paige knew each other. Chantele remembered that George was at Melinda and Joses
residence for a few hours on the night Paige went missing. She said George showed up quite a
while before Jose and Melinda got home. Chantele said George ate dinner with them and was
there most of the night. She didnt remember George going anywhere that night. She said they
were all awake at one oclock in the morning because George was looking for his wallet.
Chantele said Tracy (Adamson) didnt pick George up until the next day. Chantele did not
remember George and Jose leaving to pick up Georges truck. Chantele said Paige never hosted
a Pampered Chef party at Melindas residence.

115. On 07/18/13 I reviewed a surveillance videotape from Eastgate City Market at 2830 North
Avenue that was obtained by Investigator Pete Burg in 2007. The videotape, recorded on
06/28/07, shows Jose Tavera and two females arriving at the store and then leaving at 21:20
hours. These females appear to be Melinda Meyer and Kristy Spry. (Note: The distance from
the Eastgate City Market to 2601 Belford is about mile).
116. The following is a timeline summary of George Coralluzzos activity on Thursday, June 28,

Investigation into Lester Jones
117. On 07/02/07 Investigator Lissah Norcross obtained a court order (07SW173) for cell
phone records for both phones used by Paige Dixon. She also requested access to Paiges voice
messages for both of her known cellular phones. Those numbers are 970-216-7460 (Models
Inc.) and 970-778-0024 (personal cell phone.)

31

118. Investigator Norcross checked the first number called back by Paige after meeting with
Howard Beigler on 06/28/07. That number is 970-208-7660. Investigator Norcross believed,
based on her previous experience, that 208-7660 is a cellular telephone number. She
contacted Verizon Wireless, who advised that, according to their records, #970-208-7660 was
serviced by Cingular Wireless. Inv. Lamar Quarles called Cingular and after following prompts
to enter #970-208-7660 (the unknown number for Paige Dixons call list) was transferred to
Tracfone. On 07/09/07 Inv. Norcross spoke to a customer service representative for Cingular
Wireless. She was advised that Cingular Wireless would have call list information and cell site
tower information for up to 30 days and then the information is transferred to Tracfone, who
also retains any provided customer information. Investigator Norcross was advised, and knew
from prior experiences, that Tracfone does not require any customer information from clients,
but may have any information volunteered by the client.
119. As a result of court order 07SW181, Investigator Norcross received records from Tracfone
wireless. They show that the number 970-208-7660 was activated on 06/27/07 at 0758 hours
and the phone was bought at Wal Mart store #1280. The information provided shows the
transaction number to be #57768195, register #0068 at 2356 hours on 06/26/07. Investigator
Norcross spoke with Tracfone and confirmed that the receipt is based on Eastern Standard
Time. There were five calls total made on this phone between time of activation and July 1,
2007. These calls were all made to/from Paige Dixons business phone (Models Inc.), phone
number (970) 216-7460. Three calls were made on 06/27/07 and two calls on 06/28/07 at 1840
hours and 1855 hours.
There was one unheard message on 06/28/07 from
John in room #237. The rest of the messages were left between 06/29/07 and 07/01/07.
121. On Paiges personal phone Inv. Norcross found over 20 messages and several from what
sounded to be her children and friends calling trying to find her. A female who gives her name
as Carol left messages on both phones discussing money, wondering how Eagle was, and
concern about her disappearance and Rob Dixon. The investigation revealed Carol was
Carolyn Linderholm (DOB: 09/13/50) and she was interviewed by Investigator Pete Burg on
07/04/07. Carol stated she was a good friend of Paige Dixons and worked with her in the adult
entertainment business, going by the name Gail. Carol stated that she last spoke to Paige on
Wednesday (06/27/07) at about 2330 hours by telephone. Paige told Carol during that
conversation that she (Paige) was going to Eagle the next day (Thursday, 06/28/07) to meet
32

with her first ex-husband. Carol knew the ex-husbands last name is Beigler. Carol said she
knew Rob (Dixon) would be upset when Paige was not home, adding that Rob probably knew
Paige had been seeing her first husband again.
122. Carol said Paige has an outcall business called Models Inc. Carol knew the business cell
phone started with 216 and the calls went to Paiges cell phone. Carol said Paige is the owner
of Models Inc., but used to work for Gail Lapena. She said Paige and Gail had a falling out
about one year ago. Paige was supposed to pay Carol $35.00 for each outing. She described an
incident when Paige didnt pay Carol because the client failed to show up. Gail thought Paige
was lying and became upset about not getting paid. Carol said Gail started leaving threatening
messages and making threatening comments to Paige, such as going to send somebody to
beat your ass. Carol said Paige has an office on Compass Drive and parks in the back. Paige
told her that about six months ago, she was leaving when a client failed to show up for an
appointment. As Paige started to leave in her car, a white pickup truck tried to block her in.
Paige put her car in reverse and got away. Paige told Carol the incident scared her. Paige
thought it was a white Ford truck and didnt indicate whether she saw, or knew, the driver of
the truck.
123. Carol stated that Paige had asked her to go by a house on 06/27/07 because Paige was
uncomfortable with the call. Paige had sent her to see if he was alright as she did not have a
good feeling about him or the call. The male subject at the residence told Carol his name was
Jim and she saw the name Jones on the mailbox. Carol stated that Jim told her he met Paige
about 6 months prior on an appointment, and how awkward the situation was because he
recognized her as Rob Dixons ex-wife. Jim told Carol he knew Rob Dixon from their
involvement with the Hotchkiss Fire Department. Jim also told Carol he was an RV mechanic.
Carol did not remember the address, but gave verbal directions to Investigator Burg. Carol later
drove by the house and advised Investigator Burg the address was 3072 Hill Avenue.
124. During a subsequent interview with Inv. Burg on 07/12/07, Carol Linderholm stated that
Paige called her at about 1900 hours on 06/27/07 to meet with Mr. Jones. She said Paige
possibly said something to the effect of, he doesnt want to see me, or knows who I am.
Carol agreed and Paige said she would call him back and tell him she (Carol) would be there at
about 2100 or 2130 hours. Carol said when she arrived he introduced himself and got her a
glass of water. She said one of the first things Jones said to her was I want sex or what I
want right now is sex. Carol said she told Jones she would not do that. She indicated that
Jones did not push the issue of sex and did not threaten her or try to force her. Carol stated
that Paige had told her a couple different accounts of what had occurred in the past with Mr.
Jones. One story was that Jones had cancelled, or tried to cancel, just as Paige arrived and he
saw kids in the front lawn. Mr. Jones told Carol he saw Paige walking up his driveway and
called on the telephone and cancelled the call after recognizing her. Carol said she thought this
time (06/27/07) Jones had requested to have someone other than Carrie.
125. Investigator Burg researched Spillman records at the Sheriffs Office and located a Lester
Ralph Jones (DOB: 03/04/51) with an address of 3072 Hill Ave. He noted that Jones had a
33

criminal history which included offenses of First Degree Assault with Passion, Sexual Assault,
Kidnapping, and Domestic Violence in Delta County. Investigator Burg contacted Bob Scott RV
and they verified that Jones worked for them in the RV repair shop at 2302 Grand Park Drive.
(Note: 2302 Grand Park Drive is across the street from Walker SMS where Paige Dixons car
was found burned.)
126. On 07/05/07 Inv. Mike Piechota and Inv. Norcross went to Bob Scott RV and spoke to the
manager, Steve Pietro. He verified that Lester Jones has keys to the shop building at 2302
Grand Park Drive, keys to the yard gate, and a pass key that fits all the RVs. Inv. Piechota
contacted Lester Ralph Jones, who voluntarily drove his white Dodge pickup to the Mesa
County Sheriffs Office for an interview.
127. On 07/05/07, while Lester Jones was being interviewed at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office, Investigator Lamar Quarles and Investigator Robin Martin contacted and interviewed his
wife, Elaine Jones, in her office at Mt. Garfield Credit Union. Elaine stated she and Mr. Jones
had left on 06/22/07 to go to California. She said he returned on 06/24/07 and she went on to
Georgia. Elaine returned to Grand Junction on 06/30/07. She said Mr. Jones picked her up in
their Impala but he normally drives the Dodge truck. She said Mr. Jones now goes by Lester
due to past history, and previously went by Ralph.
128. Elaine described their activities on Sunday, 07/01/07. Elaine went to church and thought
Mr. Jones went into work while she was there. She stated they met after church for breakfast,
and then ran some errands (Orchard Mesa to buy flowers, True Value for dirt, and Sams Club.)
She indicated they were home by 1600 hours. Investigator Martin asked if either of them went
anywhere after that. Elaine stated that around 2100 hours, Mr. Jones told her that he had left
the lights on at work and needed to go turn them off. Elaine said she was on the computer and
was pretty sure of the time. She stated he returned home at about 2200 to 2210 hours. (Note:
Paige Dixons car fire was reported at about 2158 hours on 07/01/07).
129. On 07/05/07 Investigator Piechota and Investigator Norcross interviewed Lester Ralph
Jones at the Mesa County Sheriffs Office. In the course of this investigation, it was learned that
Jones was originally from Delta County. When asked to describe his activity over the past week,
Jones stated he worked, went to Alano Club every night, got some food, and went home.
Jones initially stated that on the weekend after the day in question (06/28/07) he would just go
to work, then to Alano, then home. He did state he was at work on Saturday morning
(06/30/07) at Bob Scott and saw Margaret for approximately 45 minutes. When confronted,
he admitted going to Bob Scott on Sunday morning. When confronted with the information
Investigators learned from his wife, Jones admitted going to Bob Scott on Sunday night
(07/01/07) to turn off the lights in the shop.
130. Jones provided his cellular phone number as #970-361-1148 and said his service provider
is Cingular Wireless. Jones provided his home and work phone numbers and stated these were
the only three phones he used. He stated his wife, Elaine Jones, had been out of town for the
34

past week, coming home on Saturday evening 06/30/07. When asked if he socialized with
anyone else during that week, he said no.
131. Investigator Norcross described the conversation with Gail (Carol Linderholm) and that
he was being interviewed due to the appointment on 06/27/07 at his residence with her. Jones
then admitted to receiving a $200 topless massage from Gail on 06/27/07 at around 2100 hours
at his residence. Jones stated he had used Models Inc. about a year ago and at that time paid
$400.00 for a massage and a blow/hand job. He described this taking place at the office on
Horizon Drive and Crossroads. He stated he did not know the female, and only identified her
as Blondie. When confronted again with Gails statement about him recognizing Paige, Jones
admitted knowing Blondie was actually Rob Dixons ex-wife, Paige. He admitted knowing her
from his time in Hotchkiss while associated with the fire department with Rob Dixon. Jones
stated he has not told his wife of his use of the escort service. Jones said when he called
Models Inc. he spoke to a female and the female on the phone described some ladies and he
picked one which eventually was Gail who came to his house. Jones admitted to Investigator
Norcross that he used false names when calling Models Inc. and he did use the name Jim.
Jones said he has only used that service, or any other service, twice because he did not have
the money for more frequent use.
132. Investigator Norcross assured Jones we would be gathering his phone records. At that
time Jones stated he has called several times to Models Inc. and later admitted calling others,
but just out of curiosity about the cost. Jones again stated he had not used any service other
than the two times mentioned. Jones said the last time he called Paiges service was about
three months ago prior to Wednesday. When asked which phones he used to call the service,
Jones said probably his home phone (970-523-1897) and his cell phone. Jones later confirmed
that he had no other phones that he used to make calls to Models Inc. Jones stated he drives a
white 2005 Dodge Pickup but denied ever being in the area of Paige Dixons business other than
the one time he visited.
133. When asked, Jones described two incidents involving his ex-wife and his arrests in 1999.
He stated in the first incident, he came home and found his wife with another man. They both
left the home driving and he chased them down the road and both vehicles were totaled.
Once they both stopped, Jones said the male in his wifes car started to flee and Jones pulled
out a gun and shot towards the male. Jones said he accidentally grazed the male in the head
with one of the bullets. The second incident was when he and his ex-wife were back together
and went out to eat. He said as they drove, they got into a verbal argument. Jones stated she
tried to cool me down by wanting to make love to me, we tried to in the front seat of the car,
and it was hurting her but we quit, we went back to the hotel in Delta and when I was in
checking in the motel there she drove away. Jones said he went to see her mother in
Oklahoma and that was where he got arrested. Jones said all of the incidents were with the
same woman. Jones indicated he served 3 years in the Department of Corrections in Crowley,
Colorado, then 3 years in Mesa County Work Release. Jones stated he successfully completed
parole 2 years ago.
35

134. Investigator Norcross pointed out that he looked very nervous. Jones said he was afraid
his wife will find out about it and be very mad. Investigator Norcross asked Jones if it
bothered him at all that he knows the missing woman through using her services and he said
yea. Investigator Norcross also pointed out that the victims car was found burned a stones
throw away from where he works and he simply shook his head up and down. Investigator
Norcross told Jones we also knew she was on the phone with someone in the area and asked
what he thought about that. Jones did not answer that question. Investigator Norcross asked
Jones if he knew where Paige is and if he knew what happened to her. To both questions, Jones
answered no.
135. Investigator Norcross again listed the reasons why Jones looked like a suspect in this case
and asked if he could understand her position. Jones did not verbally answer, but shook his
head up and down several times. Investigator Norcross asked if there was anything he could
tell her that would help clear him from the suspect list. Jones silently shook his head from side
to side and then said I didnt do it. Jones denied ever going around Paige Dixons business for
any reason in the past year other than the time he previously mentioned. He continued to
deny any involvement with Paiges disappearance or knowledge of her whereabouts. Jones
then asked to end the interview, requesting a lawyer.
136. Based on criminal history records, Lester Ralph Jones (DOB: 03/04/51), was arrested in
Delta County in January of 1999 on multiple charges including assault and kidnapping. His
criminal history shows a second arrest in Delta County on 02/09/99 for false imprisonment,
restraining order violation, sexual assault, and burglary. Jones was sentenced to the Colorado
Department of Corrections for 1st degree assault (heat of passion), attempted 2nd degree
kidnapping, and bail violation.
137. Reports obtained from the Delta County Sheriffs Office indicate that Lester Ralph Jones
was arrested on 01/06/99 after an incident involving his wife Lisa Jones and a male subject,
Joseph Bear. In her statement to Delta County Deputy Ryan Byers, Lisa said she was driving
Joseph home when her husband Ralph started following them. When Lisa didnt pull over,
Ralph forced her vehicle off the road and then backed his vehicle into her vehicle at a high rate
of speed. Joseph got out of Lisas car and started running and Ralph fired two shots at him.
Lisa stated that Ralph pulled her out of her car and made her get into his vehicle. Lisa stated
that Ralph drove the back roads to Hotchkiss and told her several times that he was going to
take her somewhere and kill her. About one month later, Jones was arrested again after a
second incident involving Lisa Jones. The charges from the second incident, as noted in his
criminal history, included burglary and sexual assault.
138. Investigator Burg interviewed Margaret Wood, a co-worker of Lester Ralph Jones, who he
referred to during his interview on 07/05/07. Margaret stated that Lester Jones drives to and
from his place of employment sometimes using the white Dodge truck and other times the
grey/silver car. Margaret also stated on Saturday, 06/30/07, at around noon, she saw Lester at
the shop at 2302 Grand Park Ave, Bob Scotts RV repair. Margaret stated that during a brief
conversation with Lester, he asked if she knew the shop was locked up. Margaret said this was
36

abnormal for Lester because Lester almost always works in the shop on Saturdays. Lester has
keys to open the shop and normally opens the shop early on Saturday morning. On this
morning (06/30/07) Margaret had to call the owner to come over and open up the business.
Margaret stated typically if Lester would be gone for the Saturday opening, he would let
someone know. Margaret stated she only saw Lester for a short time on Saturday morning.
139. Investigator Norcross obtained a court order (07SW182) for cell phone records for #970361-1148, which Lester Jones gave as his phone number. The records include calls to/from
Jones' phone between 06/01/07 and 07/09/07. His phone has 8 calls to/from Paige Birgfeld's
business cell phone #970-216-7460. There is one call to Paiges phone on 06/01/07, one call to
and one call from Paiges phone on 06/19/07, two calls to Paiges phone on 06/25/07, and one
call to and two calls from Paiges phone on 06/27/07, the day before she disappeared. Some of
these calls are during the daytime and some calls are during the evening. There are also 27
calls to numbers which have been confirmed as adult massage servicers.
140. On 07/05/07 MCSO Investigators obtained search warrants (SW178) for Lester Jones
residence, truck, and work space. During the search of his work space, a locked drawer of
Jones tool box was found to contain a black bra, a hand written list of phone numbers, ladies
names, their bra sizes, and references to yes or no concerning sex, a condom, a package of
Viagra, a case for glasses with no glasses in them and two male wigs.
141. Investigator Pete Burg noticed a locked metal cabinet with wood grain pattern. This
cabinet was against the west wall and beside Lester Jones workbench and toolbox. Shop
manager Mike Singer told Investigator Burg that this was Lesters cabinet. He said it belonged
to the shop before they moved to the present location about one year ago. Singer stated when
they moved, Lester Jones claimed the cabinet as his own and no one else has keys or access to
the cabinet. Investigator Burg found that Jones key ring in the toolbox had numerous keys but
none could be found to the locked cabinet. Investigator Quarles and Investigator Burg entered
the cabinet by using screwdrivers and forcing the cabinet open. Inside the cabinet was one food
scale with The Pampered Chef" logo and what appeared to be a black plastic vehicle ashtray.
142. Inside a large trash box at Lester Jones work space, a partial package for a Tracfone was
found. Tracfone is a prepaid wireless phone. None of the employees at the shop claimed
knowledge of the phone. Also in Jones work space area was a small gas can that was
photographed. The gas can was not identified as belonging to the shop, nor did any of the
other employees identify the gas can as being theirs. None of the other employees knew
where the gas can came from or when it had arrived in Jones work area.
143. Based on information obtained by Inv. Norcross concerning the Tracfone (paragraph 28),
Investigator Quarles determined Wal Mart store #1280 is the Walmart at 2881 North Ave. in
Grand Junction. Investigator Quarles determined that register #68 is the electronics counter
and register. Investigator Quarles viewed video of that counter and register and determined
that a person matching the size and physical characteristics of Lester Ralph Jones purchased a
Tracfone at 2156 hours on 06/26/07. Investigator Quarles believes the shoes worn when Lester
37

Jones was interviewed are the same shoes he saw on the video. This same person believed to
be Lester Jones was seen on video entering Wal Mart at 2142 hours and exiting Walmart at
2200 hours on 06/26/07. The person believed to be Lester Jones is wearing in the video cargo
type shorts, possibly green in color, a black tee shirt with some type of emblem on the left
chest area, and either ankle length tennis shoes or boots. This subject is also seen wearing
glasses. Investigator Quarles has personally seen and met Lester Jones and is positive the
person seen on the video is Lester Ralph Jones (DOB: 03/04/51).
144. Lester Jones was interviewed a second time on 07/18/07 at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office by Sgt. Wayne Weyler and Investigator Beverly Jarrell. He was again questioned about
his activities on Thursday, June 28, 2007. Jones said he left work at about 1700 hours and went
to the Alano Club, which is where he goes every night. He didnt know how long he was at the
Alano Club, but said it could have been close to 1930 hours. Jones said when he left the Alano
Club he went to get something to eat. He couldnt remember where he ate that night but listed
several local restaurants where he usually eats. When asked, Jones said he started thinking
about calling Models Inc., or an escort service, somewhere around Monday or Tuesday
(06/25/07 or 06/26/07). Jones thought he called Models Inc. on his cell phone on Wednesday,
06/27/07, after he left work at about 1700 hours. Sgt. Weyler asked which phone he used to
call Models Inc. on Thursday (06/28/07). Jones replied, I didnt call them Thursday night.
When questioned further, Jones indicated he was positive he didnt call Models Inc. at any time
on Thursday (06/28/07).
145. Jones said the last time he talked to Models Inc. was Wednesday, 06/27/07. Sgt. Weyler
asked what he did on Thursday night when he got home. Jones said one night he went to the
City Market in Clifton, but couldnt remember which night it was. He said it had to be
Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Jones denied going anywhere else on Thursday night, unless
that was the night he went to the store. Sgt. Weyler asked what time he went to bed on
Thursday night. Jones answered, Im in bed anywhere from nine oclock. Sometimes eight
oclock. I mean, just until 11:00, right there
146. Jones stated he went to work at about 0630 hours on Friday morning, 06/29/07. He
indicated he may have run an errand, which is not unusual, but otherwise stayed at work until
quitting time. When asked what he did Friday night, Jones said he was it was the same as
every night, go to the Alano Club, eat, and go home. He said he didnt go anywhere else Friday
night, unless that was the night he went to the store.
147. Sgt. Weyler told Jones we knew he bought a Tracfone that he used to call Models Inc.
Jones denied having, or buying, a Tracfone. Sgt. Weyler told Jones that we had a video of him
buying a Tracfone at Walmart. Jones replied, I didnt buy no Tracfone at Walmart. Jones said
the only thing he bought in the electronics department at Walmart was a Monster cable, but
didnt remember when that was. Sgt. Weyler showed Jones photos from the Walmart
surveillance video of a male subject buying the Tracfone. Sgt. Weyler asked him, Is that you?
Jones answered, Looks like me. Yes. Looks like me. Jones continued to deny that he bought
the Tracfone and denied calling, or meeting, with Paige.
38

148. Investigator Norcross determined from phone records that prior to June 28, 2007 the
following calls were made to and/or from Paiges business phone (970)216-7460:

3 calls to/from Jones personal cell prior to June 25, 2007

(The length of one call on 06/01/07, from Jones to Models Inc., indicates there was a
conversation)

1 call from Jones home phone on 06/25/07 at 2351 hours that goes to voice mail

1 call from Paige to Jones home phone at 0015 hours on 06/26/07 (Apparent
conversation)

5 calls to/from Jones personal cell, June 25-June27, 2007 (Apparent conversation during
4 calls)
o June 26, 2007 @ 2022 hours, call hits off Delta tower

3 calls from Jones Tracfone on June 27, 2007 (Apparent conversation)

149. Based on cell phone records, the following calls were made on 06/28/07:
1839 hours, Jones Tracfone calls Paige (Models Inc. phone), to voicemail
Jones tower location: 2784 Winters Ave., Grand Junction
1852 hours, Paige calls to check voicemail
Paige tower location: Eagle
- (Paige tells Beigler she needs to call a client in Grand Junction)
1855 hours, Paige(Models Inc. phone) calls Jones Tracfone
Paige tower location: Gypsum
Jones tower location: 2784 Winters Ave., Grand Junction
Note: The first call made by Paige after her meeting in Eagle with Howard Beigler was to Jones
TracFone.
150. On 07/17/07 Judge Raaum signed a search warrant (07SW193) for 3072 Hill Avenue, the
residence of Lester Jones. Among the items listed in the search warrant, and seized from the
residence on 07/18/07, were two computers. The computers were booked into evidence at the
Mesa County Sheriffs Office. The purpose of obtaining these computers was to determine if a
link existed between Paige Birgfeld and Lester Jones. On 07/20/07 Investigator Mike Piechota
began a pre-examination and hard drive acquisition on both computers. According to his
forensic examination report, the first computer was a Dell Dimension E510 tower, serial
#8XNVX91. The second computer was a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, serial #23025704PU.
Investigator Piechota found no direct link between Lester Jones and Paige Birgfeld on either of
these hard drives.
151. During his forensic examination of the Toshiba laptop, Investigator Piechota found user
activity during the morning and evening hours of 06/25/07, 06/26/07, 06/27/07, and 06/29/07.
On 06/28/07 the last recoverable internet site accessed by the user of the Toshiba, based on
the File Created dates, was on 06/28/07 at 07:55:56 hrs. It was the viewing of a Yahoo! email
from HornyMatches.com (noreply@hornymatches.com) to bigone3367@yahoo.com. The
automated message was addressed to butch03 and said "wonderwoman7 just sent you a wink."
Just prior to that (07:55:49 hrs) bigone3367 was logged into their Inbox on Yahoo! This website
39

was found under the Windows account RALPH JONES and located within the temporary
internet files folder. The next recoverable user generated website on the Toshiba accessed was
on 06/29/07 at 06:40:06 hrs. The user navigated to their MSN Hotmail flyenhi@hotmail home
page. This website was found under the Windows account RALPH JONES and located within the
temporary internet files folder. Investigator Piechota found there was no definitive internet
user activity on the Toshiba from 06/28/07 at 07:55:56 hours through 06/29/07 at 06:40:06
hours.
152. Between 06/25/07 and 07/01/07, Investigator Piechota found 216 adult pornographic
images on the Toshiba. His examination found that no pornography was viewed during normal
business hours. The pornography is viewed in the early morning hours and in the evening
hours, except on the weekend. On the Toshiba laptop on 06/28/07, the last image viewed was
at 07:43:25. This image was found under the Windows account RALPH JONES and located
within the temporary internet files folder. The next adult pornographic image, on the laptop,
was on 06/29/07 at 06:46:14. This image was found under the Windows account RALPH JONES
and located within the temporary internet files folder.
153. When he ran a search for all web related artifacts on the Toshiba laptop between
06/25/07 and 07/01/07, Inv. Piechota found 614 files, some of which were recoverable
(viewable), others showing only the file names and not the content of the file. Websites viewed
during this date range included Plentyoffish; Hotmail; MySpace; Yahoo!; etc. Investigator
Piechota determined between 06/25/07 and 07/01/07, the Toshiba showed 32,004 files had
activity during that week. For the Toshiba, file activity specifically on 06/28/07 started at
05:10:36 hrs and lasted until 07:56:11 hrs. Activity on the Toshiba resumed on 06/29/07 at
06:22:24 hrs. Inv. Piechota determined there was activity on the Toshiba laptop from 1900
hours until midnight on 06/24/07, 06/25/07, 06/26/07, 06/27/07, and 06/29/07. However,
during the same time period on 06/28/07 there isnt any activity.
154. In his examination of the Dell tower, Investigator Piechotas examination showed no
activity on 06/28/07. There was also no activity during the evening hours on the preceding
several nights, nor subsequent nights immediately surrounding 06/28/07. There was no
Internet activity on the Dell from 06/25/07 until 07/01/07 at 2118 hours. (Note: Elaine Jones
recalled being on the computer at about 2100 hours on 07/01/07).
155. Grand Junction Police Detectives Ed Prescott and Rob Faussone, who were assisting with
this investigation, were assigned to follow up on the list of phone numbers found in Lester
Jones work tool box at Bob Scott RV. The first person they identified from this list was Angela
Davis. During interviews with Angela, she stated that she provided adult entertainment to
Lester Jones at least 4 to 5 times over a period of about a month and a half. She said the last
time was about 1 years ago. She said this involved nude massage, masturbation, and sex. A
second person in the escort business, identified as Tonya Barker, stated she has serviced Lester
Jones many times over the last 7 years, the last time being at her residence in April or May of
this past year. She admitted giving Jones hand jobs. A third woman, Amy Farmer, stated she
serviced Lester three or four times at the Seventh Street Book Store, known as Grand Junction
40

News. Amy stated she would do doubles with another girl on Lester and would give him hand
jobs. A Fourth woman, Deborah Jameson, stated she saw Lester once or twice in 2006 and
again in January 2007 at her residence. She admitted only to providing nude massage to Lester.
These four women identified Lester Jones from photos and were able to describe his physical
characteristics. Several other women in the adult entertainment business said they might have
met with Lester Jones, but could not positively identify him.
156. Detectives Prescott and Faussone spoke to the owner of Grand Junction News, Steven
Potter. He stated that Lester Jones frequented the adult book store at Seventh and North Ave.
three to four times a week during the day shift, going back many months. Potter stated Lester
would buy DVDs, videos, lotions, and obtain change for the video arcade. The detectives then
spoke to Jennifer Chavez, the night shift clerk at the adult book store. Jennifer stated she saw
Lester Jones two to three times a week during the night shift, the last time being the week of
June 18-22 (20007). Jennifer stated she remembers being creeped out by this person and
that he would always come in the back door and act like he wasnt supposed to be there. Both
Steven Potter and Jennifer Chavez identified Lester Jones through a picture and physical
stature.
157. Detectives Prescott and Faussone found a lady, identified as Donna Morton, who has had
internet chats with Jones for the past year and a half. Donna told the Detectives she met Ralph
Jones on line about a year to a year and a half ago and he used the screen name Butch3.
Donna stated she began an online relationship with the person she identified as Lester Ralph
Jones. Donna gave the phone number of 361-1148 for Jones, which the investigation
determined was the phone number for Lester Ralph Jones. Donna stated on one occasion she
met Ralph Jones on the Monument and he became too sexual by groping her so she quit
meeting him and has only chatted with him since.
158. On 07/19/07 the Mesa County Sheriffs Office received a fax from Margie Spencer, the
Officer in Charge of the Volunteer K9 Scent Specific Search and Recovery Unit (VK9SSSAR). In
the fax, Spencer offered her organizations assistance in this investigation. Sgt. Art Smith spoke
with Julie Jones of VK9SSSAR about their organizations capabilities and, ultimately, their
assistance was requested. Two handlers, Julie Jones of Brewer, Maine and Sarah Platts of
Virginia Beach, Virginia, arrived in Grand Junction with their K9s on 08/03/07. Jones K9 was a
Labrador Retriever named Quincy. Platt had two K9s, German short haired Pointers names Jack
and Ben.
159. Sgt. Smith obtained two pieces of evidence from the evidence vault - a cloth bag
containing clothing and other items known to have belonged to Paige Birgfeld, and a pair of
brown shorts that had been seized from Lester Jones when he was at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. These two items were used by the K9 handlers to prepare scent articles for Paige
Birgfeld and Lester Jones. Sarah Platts used gauze pads to prepare scent pads from three areas
of Paige Birgfelds burned car; the drivers seat, the passenger seat, and the rear seat. Sgt.
Smith and Investigator Mike Miller worked with Jones and Platts on 08/03/07, 08/04/07, and
08/05/07. Paige Birgfelds burned car was presented to the K9s as it was secured in the MCSO
41

impound lot. The K9s gave positive indication for the scents of Paige Birgfeld and Lester Jones
and cadaver scent in the rear seat area. K9 Quincy specifically indicated to Lester Jones scent
in the drivers seat.
160. The K9s were taken to the area where Paiges vehicle was found burned. Beginning in the
northwest parking lot of Walker SMS and working from the scent article of Lester Jones, K9
Quincy tracked to the area where Paiges car had been found burning and gave positive
identification. The K9 then tracked to the front door of Bob Scotts RV and gave positive
indication.
161. The K9s were taken to Highway 50, eastbound, within the area where articles belonging
to Paige Birgfeld had been recovered. Working from the scent article of Paige Birgfeld, the K9s
indicated the presence of a trail eastbound on Highway 50. At the intersection of Highway 50
and Bridgeport Road, the K9s turned onto Bridgeport Road, tracking down Bridgeport Road to
the parking area, underneath the railroad bridge, to the bank of the Gunnison River and out
into the Gunnison River. The K9s gave no indication of a track of Paige exiting Bridgeport Road.
Working from the scent article of Lester Jones, the K9s indicated a positive scent on Bridgeport
Road, down to the waters edge (in the same area), then an exit trail away from the river back
to Highway 50. The K9s also indicated the presence of a cadaver scent in the Gunnison River at
the waters edge near the Bridgeport river access.
162. On 02/06/08 Sgt. Wayne Weyler received information that Lester Jones had been
terminated from his job at Bob Scott's RV service center. He contacted the owner of Bob
Scott's, Steve Petro. Steve confirmed that Lester had been terminated on 02/04/08. Steve said
Lester had not been getting along with other employees and other personnel issues.
163. Lester Jones was placed under surveillance by members of the MCSO Street Crimes Unit
and the Drug Task Force. A court order for a GPS monitor was obtained and the device was
placed on Jones 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The surveillance and GPS did not result in any
significant investigative leads in this case.
164. Due to caseload and the absence of new leads, no significant investigation occurred for
approximately two years. In January 2011, at the direction of Captain Rusty Callow, the case
was re-energized. Interviews were conducted with Lester Jones former co-workers in Grand
Junction and Delta County. Interviews were also done with his friends, co-workers, business
associates, and high school classmates, in Delta, Hotchkiss, and Crawford, Colorado. Family
members of Jones first wife, Glenna Hawk, who still live in Delta County, were interviewed.
The purpose of these interviews was to obtain additional background information on Lester
Jones and to attempt to identify secluded or remote areas where he could have buried Paige
Birgfelds body. Information from these interviews did not result in locating Paige Birgfeld or
provide significant investigative leads.

165. Investigator Scott Ehlers and members of the MCSO Street Crimes Unit resumed
surveillance of Lester Jones, watching his residence at 3072 Hill Avenue and following Jones
whenever he left his residence.
166. On 02/18/11 (Friday) at about 1147 hours, Investigator Ehlers saw a white Buick pull into
the driveway at 3072 Hill Avenue. Investigator Ehlers saw a white female enter the Jones
residence and leave at about 1245 hours. At the direction of Sgt. Wayne Weyler, Corporal
Marco Montez conducted a wall stop on the vehicle. The female driver was Felicia Mares
(DOB: 05/13/80). Felicia indicated she had been doing house cleaning, although Corporal
Montez saw no cleaning supplies in her car.
167. On 03/02/11 Sgt. Weyler and I interviewed Felicia Mares at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. She was shown a mug shot photograph of Lester Jones and admitted she knew him as
Jim. She indicated he had set up the call and she went to his house. Felicia said she
thought she would be doing a private dance, but said he wanted oral sex. Felicia was not aware
that he had a wife and he told her that was his sisters house. She said Jim was trying to kiss
her and was groping her by grabbing her breasts. Felicia told him he was being too pushy and
said his attitude changed and he became apologetic. She described him as being real
respectful and said he let her walk out.
168. Felicia admitted performing oral sex on Jim but denied there was sexual intercourse. Sgt.
Weyler told Felicia he believed that she did have intercourse. Felicia stated, I tried having
intercourse with him buthe was kind of big and I couldnt. Felicia indicated that when she
saw his penis, she told Jim she couldnt have intercourse because he would hurt her. He told
her they would keep it basic with a hand job. Felicia said she has only seen him twice in the
last year but had been to the same house about 10 years ago. During this interview, Felicia said
she had sex with Jim when she was 20 years old. I asked if he mentioned other women. Felicia
said during her last visit, he was telling her about a girl he called and was going off on
different things she was trying to do with him. She said Jim told her he wished he could have a
girl come over, talk to him and be sweet and have respect for me.
169. During surveillance on 03/09/11 Deputies with the MCSO Street Crimes Unit saw a Nissan
Pathfinder with Colorado registration 860TLP at the Jones residence. The vehicle registers to
Stephany Ford with an address in Orchard City, Colorado. The vehicle was seen parked at the
residence for about 23 minutes and then left. Sgt. Sorenson stopped the vehicle and contacted
the driver who was identified as Stephany Ford (DOB: 03/02/92).
170. On 06/10/11 I interviewed Stephany Ford (DOB: 03/02/92) at the Mesa County Sheriffs
Office. I showed her a photo of Lester Jones and Stephany said she recognized him as Jim.
Stepheny said for a short period of time she was posting on Back Page as an escort. Jim
called her on the phone and asked if she would have sex with him if he paid for 30 minutes or if
there would be an extra charge for that. Stephany had told him there was no extra charge for
sex and that it was included in the $150.00 charge. Jim gave her directions to his house and
Stephany drove there the same day from Austin, Colorado. When she arrived, Jim told her he
43

was lonely because his wife recently passed away. She said Jim paid her $150.00 cash as soon
as she arrived and directed her to the bedroom. Stephany said she and Jim sat on the bed and
they talked. She said Jim didnt want to do anything else. She finally told Jim if they werent
going to do anything, she was going to leave. Jim told her okay and asked if he could call her
again. I told Stephany that based on other conversations with prostitutes who had been with
him, I didnt believe he paid her $150.00 just to talk. Stephany said she thought it was strange,
but insisted there was no sexual contact and that he didnt ask for any.
171. On 03/02/11 at about 1325 hours, Deputy Robert Beagley drove from 3072 Hill Ave.
(Lester Jones residence) to Bob Scott RV, 2302 Grand Park Drive, by three different routes to
determine drive time. He was driving an unmarked car and wearing plain clothes. On all three
routes Deputy Beagley traveled north on 30 Road, west on E Road to 30 Road, and north on
30 Road to westbound I-70B. From there he traveled:
Highway 6 & 50 to northbound 23 Road, to Bob Scott, distance 9.8 miles, 19 minutes
North Ave., I-70B to Highway 6 & 50, north on 23 Rd to Bob Scott, distance 9.0 miles, 22
minutes
F Road (Patterson), Highway 6 & 50, 23 Rd north to Bob Scott, distance 9.8 miles, 20
minutes
172. Deputy Beagley drove these routes at or below the posted speed limits. There was
construction on Highway 6 & 50 from 25 Road to approximately 24 Road and the speed limit
was 35 mph. He noted that traffic was moderate to heavy as he drove these routes. As noted
above, the longest drive time was 22 minutes.
173. In the course of this investigation, numerous items of evidence, or potential evidence,
were collected from a number of locations. These locations included Paige Birgfelds burned
vehicle, Lester Jones residence and personal vehicles, Bob Scott RV, Motel 6, George
Coralluzzos vehicle, and Wells Gulch where Paiges remains were found. Lester Jones boots
and shorts that he wore to his interview on 07/18/07 were collected. The items found along
Highway 50 that included Models Inc. business cards and blank checks from Paiges bank were
collected.
174. The evidence in this case was submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for
analysis. The evidence was analyzed and compared to the known standards that were obtained
from Lester Jones, George Coralluzzo, Joseph Carruth, Steven Heald, John Livingston, and
Howard Beigler. Analysis conducted by CBI included serology, DNA, hair and fiber analysis, and
latent print examinations. The analysis of the evidence in this case failed to answer any
investigatory questions and provided no leads. There is no physical evidence linking Paige
Birgfeld to any of the above named individuals.
175. The following is a summary of the probable cause documented during this investigation:

Lester Ralph Jones went out of town with his wife on 6/22/07 to California. He returned
on 6/24 and she went on to Georgia. She did not return to Grand Junction until 6/30.
44

Lester Ralph Jones telephoned Models Inc. on his personal cell phone several times
between 6/25 and 6/27, while his wife was out of town
Jones purchased a Tracfone at Wal Mart on 06/26/07
The only calls made with this Tracfone were to Models Inc.
He denied purchasing the Tracfone, even when shown surveillance photos of himself
The first number Paige called on 06/28/07 before returning to Grand Junction from
Eagle was Lester Jones Tracfone
The second number she called was Timothy Zotto, who has been alibied
The third number she called was John Livingston at Motel 6
o It is logical that Paige would have set client appointments in the same order she
returned their phone calls, i.e. Lester Jones first, then John Livingston at Motel 6
Paige was near the intersection of 23 & G Road when she spoke to Howard Beigler at
2057 hrs.
During her last conversation with Beigler, Paige was near Walker SMS and Bob Scott RV,
not Motel 6, which is on Horizon Drive
Livingston left a voice mail on Paiges phone at 2224 hours on 06/28/07 from Motel 6,
asking if someone was still coming
Analysis of Lester Jones computers indicates that he was on the computer every night
while his wife was out of town except the night of 06/28/07
Paige disappears after she last spoke with Beigler at 2057 on 6/28/07
After the disappearance a trail of checks, business cards and other personal belongings
of Paige Birgfeld were found along Hwy 50 between Whitewater and Bridgeport Road
indicating, both that she was taken there immediately following her disappearance, and
that it appears that someone, likely her, was trying to leave clues of her travel path
On 07/01/07 at 2158 hours, Paiges car was reported on fire in the parking lot of Walker
SMS. The driver's seat was pushed all the way back. That seat also alerted to the scent
of Lester Jones by trained dogs, with the scent of Paige and a cadaver scent coming from
the vehicle.
Walker SMS is across the street from Lesters place of employment, Bob Scott RV
Packaging from a TracFone was found in the trash can by Lester Jones' work station
despite his denial of purchasing it.
A gas can was located next to Lester Jones' work station despite other employees
indicating they did not remember it being there before or having any explanation as to
why it was there.
Elaine Jones stated Lester left their residence at about 2100 hours on Sunday, 07/01/07,
to turn off shop lights at Bob Scott, returning home about 2210 hours
Driving time between Jones residence and Bob Scott RV is approximately 20 minutes
When confronted by Investigators, Jones admitted driving from his residence to Bob
Scotts to turn off shop lights

176. Based on MCSO records and Colorado DMV records, the defendant is identified as:
Lester Ralph Jones DOB: 03/04/51
604 tall, 275 pounds, brown hair, green eyes
45

177. BASED ON THE PRECEDING, there is probable cause to believe that between June 28, 2007
and July 1, 2007 in the County of Mesa and State of Colorado, Lester Ralph Jones, DOB:
03/04/51 committed the crimes of Second degree kidnapping, in violation of C.R.S. 18-3-302, a
class 4 felony, and Murder in the first degree, in violation of C.R.S. 18-3-102, a class 1 felony
and Murder in the Second Degree, in violation of C.R.S. 18-3-103, a class 2 felony.
It is therefore respectfully requested that a warrant be issued for the arrest of said defendant.
